“Sofitel Marrakech - Beautiful Grounds!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2011

My cousin and I went to Marrakech for a five day break in September 2011. We didn't realise until arrival that both the Sofitel Lounge and Spa and the Palais Imperial are connected, giving us full access to use the utilities of both hotels. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful with full access to two pools and a jacuzzi. The hotel guests were of a mix of ages and cultures and all the staff were more than happy to help. One of the best clubs, "So Good" resided within the hotel providing a sheesha lounge, bar and club. Perfect for a good night out! I would highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Marrakech. We could have easily spent another week within the hotel!

This is clearly one of the top 5-star hotels in Marrakech. Excellent infrastructure (heated pool!), excellent service (like in many other places in Marrakech), good food, a reception area that is so inviting, and a great atmoshphere. we nipped over to the El Saadi hotel next door. It has the atmosphere of a bus station!
My tip is the following:
- The building complex really consists of two hotels (the Sofitel Palais Imperial) and the Sofitel Lounge and Spa). Why spend more money getting a room in the Palais Imperial? It costs around 100-150 US dollars extra, but you use the same facilities, and the rooms are not much different (we stayed one night in the Palais Imperial and the rest of the time in the Lounge and Spa where the rooms are nearly of the same standard).

Try to get Meryem to help you at the reception. She is so friendly, smart and a real professional.............

If you plan to go to Marrakech don't look any other hotels. This is a great place to stay, in a wonderful neighborhood, near nice restaurants, close to the Medina and to other beautiful hotels such as La Mamounia. The rooms are very comfortable with good amenities. The pool is very nice, and has beautiful places to spend a nice afternoon. However the service of this Sofitel is not the best. They took ages to do the check in, the suggested a not that nice local guide, and they were not as friendly as most Moroccan's are.

This a large 5 star hotel. Maybe not Thai 5 Star, but 5 star and very good all the same. Close to old Marchesh. You could walk it but it’s only £4 in a taxi. Lots of pleasant helpful staff. Large good accommodation. Big pool. Hammocks and giant chess set in the grounds Nice restaurant. It seemed to be the social centre of the new hotels district. Non residents came in for lunch and dinner. Connected next door is a very nice Night Club with a live music dancing and tables for dinning. Down side? Breakfast is £20PP. but outside are two nice restaurants that charge £4PP A Poolside bottle of beer is £5. Baby sitting service that works! We loved it. It played a big part of making Marchesh a great holiday. Paid the hotel £25 collection from the airport for 5 people. Worth it!.

Well we're just back from a week at the Sofitel.

The beautiful reception area is typical of the rest of the hotel with a wonderful aroma and with all members of staff always willing to assist and with a warm response at any time of the day.

The rooms were a lovely size and the bed was large and extremely comfortable. Our room didn't have a particularly good view but we didn't care about it to be honest.

The pool area was extremely well looked after with plenty of sun loungers and sectioned off areas.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the souks and although we could have taken a taxi for a small price, we enjoyed the walk.

When there during the day we ate at L'Oasis, which is their poolside restaurant. The staff were always very friendly and although there wasn't a huge menu, there was a good mix of salads, grills and other items and the complimentary fresh bread and olives were delicious.

We are never worried about breakfast but we were aware from talking to other guests that it was very expensive and not particularly inspiring. On the occasion we wanted something we took a short walk to Extrablatt which is a cafe just a couple of minutes up the road, which was ideal.

We looked at the restaurants in the hotel but there were, as others have mentioned, extremely expensive. Fortunately there are a number of good restaurants only a short walk from the hotel and obviously loads more the further you go into the main town. We also found the local carrefour so that we were able to have large bottles of water and snacks in our room without the excessive cost.

I looked at the prices in the spa and they were, like the food, over the top and I ended up going to Les Bains de Marrakech which is fabulous as well as being a great price.

During our stay there was a yearly dinner / dance party for the staff which was held at the bottom of the area where our room was. We were given notice that it was taking place on the day with apologies from the management however having a band playing very loudly from 19:00 - 00:30 in an area where guests sleep isn't ideal and it would have been nice if they had given the rooms who were disturbed by the noise something as thank you, for instance a couple of drinks or a free lunch.

Two things that were were very pleasantly surprised about were that that wifi and the gym were complimentary, something that was extremely welcome.

We would definitely return there again and, like some of the other reviews, feel the only reason why I haven't given the hotel a rating of 5 is due to the excessive prices for food and drink

Room Tip: If possible get a room overlooking the pool.

We visited this hotel and all i can say is wonderful, wonderful, excellent. The staff, the food, the service, cleanliness, i would definitely return to this hotel. A wonderful selection at breakfast, helpful informative staff. The rooms are not luxurious, but they are clean and the bed is so comfortable, i thoroughly enjoyed the experience, great pool and great pool furniture and within walking distance to the souks and a main shopping area. My husband and I loved it and so did two other couples that we met, one on honeymoon and another celebrating their 27 wedding anniversary.

Beautiful hotel with excellent service but prices for alcohol and sot drinks unacceptable. £5 for a diet coke, £10 for a single baileys, whiskey, vodka. £5 for a half pint of beer and with top champagne £500 a bottle for brands that cost £50 in the shops equaling a 1000% markup connote be justified. i accept establishments have to make a profit but 10 fold on soft drinks and alcohol is sickening we ate out every night as could not live with hotel prices. A real shame.
