“Fantastic service and great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Stayed here in September 2013 with my partner. The Riad is hard to find so make sure you book an airport transfer which will cost you 15 euros. This Riad only accepts euros as cash payment for drinks and food so bring some with you for this or pay at the end on card if you prefer. The food is excellent with traditional Moroccan cooking on request for dinners (they get the food fresh so you have to tell the staff if you want dinner. Breakfast is simple but very tasty local breads and jams with yoghurt and coffee.

The staff are very helpful and attentive always on hand 24/7 to make you teas or coffees and do their best to help you with any problems or requests.

Do not be fooled by first impressions of the immediate area outside the Riad, you are on the edge of the central market district inhabited by the locals rather than tourists, the staff will show you how to get to the souks and main square if you ask and after one trip I realised just how central we actually were with only a few streets to cover before you are in the middle of the markets.

The roof garden is beautifully maintained and a lovely quiet place to read away from the hustle and bustle only a few streets away.

The rooms are well equipped with satellite tv (although don't expect much in the way of English channels if you are a fellow brit like me) and air con to keep you cool after a day in the souks or on the roof relaxing. The spa is also an added bonus with massages and Hammam steam room being a fraction of the price you would get in the UK.

I would urge anyone who is looking for the real Moroccan experience to forgo the more central hotels and relax in the quiet friendly atmosphere of this Riad.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

We stayed here for the last week in August! When we arrived we were served with mint tea - a very nice welcoming. The Riad is beautiful! An oasis in the middle of the medina. There is only 5 rooms, the top terrace, open like lounge/courtyard on the ground floor. Really relaxing to sit a read a good book. We didn't use the small pool, but did have have a hammam (body scrub) and massage, which was amazing - just over 600 Dh for both. Breakfast is very good - best at 9am when it is just done! It is either served in the courtyard or top terrace. The rooms are lovely, we were in room two, the shower was lovely and had air con.

The hotel does price everything in euros, there isn't a menu as such about they do have water and other drinks for 2 euros each. There isn't any fridges in the room so we did find it better to get water from the hotel one big bottle at a time.

The hotel does sell some excursions, and they have access to more if you ask. We did do an excursion to Zagora in the desert for 2 days - amazing experience. However, we did not book this through the hotel although we could have - depends whether you want to try negotiating. We told the hotel we were interested in doing a cooking class, as they arranged this for us! Definitely worth doing. The owner also runs another hotel that is bigger around the corner, where he is based, we did the class there. For about 500 Dh we went to the market and watched how the locals bought their food. We then went back and watched doing little bits of how to make a tagine, a potato cheese ball thing and three salads/veg dishes. We then were served with a three course meal.

Hasan is a star!! He speaks good English and was so kind and helpful!! Any questions we had of where to get places he helped! When we when on our two day trip even though we didn't book throu the hotel he still arranged with the other staff for us to get breakfast at 6am. He even escorted us through the souks to help us get good deals on our more expensive gifts, do ask him for help.

Other tips, there is a safe for 1euros a night and a local tax of 3 euros per person per night. The riad has a brilliant location, but print off the map from the riad website before going. Email to book a taxi through the hotel 86 Dh each, or get bus 11 or 19 from the airport at 30dh and then get a taxi from there - be aware they rip off tourists. This is less than transfers.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

The Riad is very clean and nice - the staff is the friendliest you can imagine. Very helpful, far beyond regular guest liaison and support! With our bad sense of orientation Hassan even accompaigned us to make sure we find our way through the souk .... Hassan and his colleague also made sure we got the right transfer and made sure we were aware of the prices.
The terasse is like garden eden and we missed to have dinner served in this beautiful spot. For sure we will enjoy that next time when we go back to Marrakech (because this will be THE RIAD we'll want to stay again).

You can't find more warm, friendly place in Marrakesh. If you are looking for a traditional marrocan accomodation where staff are living angeles, don't hesitate to book yourself in. Hassan is a person who you will never forget for his willingness to help. The rooms are very clean and the breakfest very nice, served with love. The location in Medina is great as it is just 5 minutes walk from the traditional market. We can't recommend it more. If we will visit Marroco again, this is the place where we will stay.

The Riad Dar Foundouk was an absolutely brilliant place to stop if you want to become immersed in the local culture. The staff are very friendly and helpful and ensured that our stay was enjoyable and stress-free. If we go to Marrakech again this is where we would stay, it was just what we wanted from our holiday. Excellent service.

Room Tip: All rooms in were good.

The Riad fullfill completly what we expect from a place like this. Everything clean and absolutly quiet, the right place to rest peacefully. We thought that a Riad, as a traditional Marrocan house, should be! We had a wonderful dinner, a delicious chicken Tagine, in the Riad's terrace, and it was something to remember... All the staff were very efficient and gentle, Leila do the cooking delights, Mahomed always disponible and the last but not the least, Hassan...that becomed our personnal guide and a friend ! We were so lucky and grateful to him ! So, this Riad is highly recommended !!

Room Tip: Our room was in the first floor and it was very good. Great air conditioner.
