I was offered this activity when I was at a conference in Marrakech so myself and a few of the guys wanted some adventure for a few days. We were picked up punctually from our hotel and driven to the river. We made a stop for lunch on the way, but we were really interested in escaping the crowds, not joining them.
When we reached the river, we were well looked after with food and drinks. There were a few other people of the trip and we all slept in a big tent on the side of the river which was quite a laugh. Like scout camp for grown ups!
The next day, we were enough to have our own raft which was hilarious. Our guide knew their stuff and we got a safety talk and paddle instructions before we left. I think I was most amazed not at the rapids, but the scenery, it was spectacular and different around every turn. We were on the water for about 4 hours and stopped riverside for lunch.
The next day after staying at a similar camp for the night, but with our host Moustafa, we had another few hours and more rapids before we reached a big lake where we were met by a boat that towed us to the other side and our transport back to Marrakech.
Downsides.. am struggling to think of one. I was cold at times, but mainly because I didn't have thermal garments to wear under my wetsuit. Not the fault of the rafting guys, more mine for not going to a business meeting in Marrakech with it.
