“The address in Marrakech!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013 via mobile

Just returned from our companies 30th anniversary celebrations, had a hosted lunch & tour of this amazing property.

Beautiful decor, from the moment you enter you know you are in for a very special stay! Elaborate chandeliers, rich fabrics, great use of space, extremely spacious rooms with very comfy beds.

Food to die for, we were hosted to their incredible Sunday brunch & equestrian show (about £70pp), this includes a buffet of everything you can imagine, oysters, lobster and salmon as starters, tender lamb tagine to beef fillet Wellington and a huge array of deserts. You also get access to the spa included, one of the most stunning spas I've seen across the world.

If you head to Marrakech then this true gem of a hotel is THE place to choose, just book it, you will not be disappointed.

An architectural marvel with amazing work of art and tapestry display. The grounds are magnificent and so are the Arabian horses. The rooms are inviting and very comfortable. Need more lighting. Very welcoming and polite staff but need to brush up on English. Great food but slow service. A pricey property but what an unforgettable experience!!! Quite location, yet only 10 minutes away from the Medina.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms facing the mountains

This is an exceptional hotel. The quality and attention to detail is unrivaled in Marrakech. This is particularly true of the guest rooms which are Moroccan in style and beautifully appointed. The lobby and restaurant/bar area are more contemporary in style. The hotel is small with only 61 rooms which gives the property a sense of exclusivity and never feels crowded. The swimming pool (80 meters long) and Arabian horses are stunning. The hotel is located in the outskirts of the city and the only negative comment is that you cannot really walk anywhere outside but this is a minor issue given the availability of taxis and hotel cars. I was there on a visit scouting properties to house an international VIP group and found the hotel to be absolutely perfect.

The stay was an exceptional experience. The room was spacious and comfortable. The grounds were absolutely amazing. We would have preferred a little more light in the already dark painted room. The service generally was good.

This is a very beautiful hotel and the grounds were absolutely stunning. The Moroccan architecture was everywhere - details found in the places you would least expect. Location was good - about 10-15 minute drive to markets. A lot of services provided in the spa but quite expensive. Kid friendly. Food was not bad. Minuses for the hotel are: 1. Service was not that great - staff did not speak English very well, were slow and disorganized but they were very pleasant. 2. Food and drinks were very pricey. 3. The lighting in the room was extremely poor but we requested extra light and it was provided. 4. Be careful asking for an additional bed - those are pricey.

We stayed at the Selman for a family wedding. The room and the grounds were amazing. It was definitely an oasis from the mayhem of downtown Marrakesh/square. My only critique is that for a 4-star hotel and for how pricey it was, I would've expected customer service to be a bit better. At breakfast, sometimes we had to ask for a fork 5 times from 3 different waiters and still wait 10 minutes for it to come. Also, there is no market/store in the hotel or nearby, and they charge you an arm and a leg for food and water. While the food at the Moroccan restaurant was good, room service and food at the pavilion was mediocre at best and exorbitantly expensive -- a meager veggie panini sandwich was 200 dirhams! Overall, a great place for a destination wedding and if you want an upscale resort.

Grounds, decor, ambiance all PERFECT. Service in restaurants very slow but that's typical of Moroccan service. Twice a day maid service in the rooms was icing on the cake! For the most part, staff was courteous and accommodating. Taxi prices can fluctuate from market to hotel anywhere from 70 to 150 dirhams. Negotiate well. Taxi drivers are willing to offer better prices to men and seem to like to gouge women! A very pleasant experience at the Selman.

Room Tip: We had a twin bedded room on the second floor. Very spacious with three large closets and nice bath...
