“Stay here and experience the real Marrakesh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at this riad for 3 nights and really loved the place. The staff, food and rooms are amazing! The location is perfect. About 10-15 minutes walk to the main square. You will recieve a handwritten map from one of the family members. Pay attention to the directions and you will easily find your way through the maze in the medina. We also recommend that you make use of the airport-transfer offered by the riad as it will be difficult to locate the first time.

If we are going back to marrakesh we will most definitely stay at this place.

Location not everyone's choice. Suited my needs perfectly. Away from the mayhem of the square. Safe walk about fifteen mins through traditional part of the city. If you want to see the real Marrakech then stay here. Great accomadation and food and hospitality. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Highlight of this Riad is the rooftop terrace. Awesome. Owners very helpful and friendly. Recommend trip to Atlas Mountains, if going again would stay two days in mountains.

Our Family had an outstanding week at Riad Tamarrakecht.
This Family owned Riad is beautifull, fantastic rooms, exquisit service in all manners and is placed in the midle off the Medina.
U will never forget a stay there and the lovely Family who runs the Riad.

The family that runs this Riad made us feel very welcome. The mint tea and sweet treats when we arrived allowed us to relax after our travels. Very helpful with directions, advice navigating the medina, and arranging transportation to the airport. Nicely decorated. A wonderful breakfast is included. We chose to eat our dinners here - a good variety on the menu and wonderful food and service. We would highly recommend this small family-run hotel to anyone traveling to Marrakech.

Room Tip: No elevator so be sure to specify a main floor room if stairs is an issue.

We didn't quite know what to expect with this place for our stay, however based on the many great reviews on here we decided to give it a try. We have never stayed at a Guest House before, so it was quite a different experience. We arranged airport pickup but unfortunately it didn't start too well as after the driver brought us from the airport to one of the main "gates" to the old town, we were left waiting for 30-40 minutes in the heat with our taxi driver (who spoke no English), for someone to come and take us to the hotel.

Once finally arriving, we was greeted by the very friendly Sara who was very welcoming! My first experience of the Moroccan mint tea, and it was great. She sat us down and guided us through a hand drawn map of the Riad's location in respect to the main old town square which was helpful given how much of a maze the old town is! If you choose to stay here, please pay attention to the directions given :) We only got lost once, but just backtracked our steps and picked up a map from the old square and found our way again, it's quite easy once you get used to it.

Our room was on the ground floor, just next to the kitchen. I believe this is the room with the "smelly" bathroom, as it was a bit. It was a good size, and bed was comfortable. It has an air conditioning unit which came in handy, and a safe to store our valuables. We received a large bottle of water and a watermelon (?) in our room also. The bed was made very well and other than the smell in the bathroom, it was quite clean. Apart from soap, you will need to remember to take your own toiletries (eg. shampoo), however they were very accomodating to providing some when we needed.

The downside to the room was that it was quite noisy, being next to the kitchen and on the ground floor, and particularly with the setup of the Riad with non-sound dampening doors or windows, we had no chance of sleeping before everyone else was in bed and the place was quiet (which is was eventually).

We spoke to Sara about some day trips we could do and she had a selection of a few of the main sites to see in and out of Marrakech. We opted for the day trip to the coastal town Essaouira, and the day trip to the Ouzoud Falls, both trips were fantastic locations and the price was reasonable. The way the locals arrange these tours seem a little unorganised, we were picked up first and taken to a central "pickup" location where we transferred to the main bus and waited for other tourists to come along, seemingly until the bus was full. Guides always spoke good English and were helpful.

Breakfast was fantastic every day, with a new main dish each day, the food was very tasty and plentiful. We recommend having breakfast up on the roof terrace, it's a lovely comfortable spot! We also ordered some food one night from their own menu selection, for us a Tagine of course, which was also fantastic! Prices were ok, I can certainly recommend the mum's cooking regardless.

On our day of departure we unfortunately had another hiccup with our airport transfer, we had some language barrier issues with Sara not around, and us only being able to speak English, we was 40 minutes late departing to the airport. They were apologetic, it was just a little unfortunate about the language barrier as we didn't know what was going on.

All in all, this is a good place to stay to really experience the real Marrakech. Its location puts you in the heart of the locals old town area, and really puts you amongst it! We feel we wouldn't have come away with the true feeling of Marrakech if we had of stayed in the "westernised" chain hotels on the other side of town. You also get a true home stay feeling here at the family run Riad. Just be mindful of the language barrier if you only speak English, and perhaps arrange your own airport transfers (be mindful of directions to the Riad, as it can be hard to find first time).

PRO's
-----
Real home stay feel, great old town location, friendly, value, food

CON's
-----
English language barrier, noisy rooms, transfer arrangements poor

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor room next to kitchen.

The location was excellent. Yes, a bit of a walk to the Fna Djema Square but no problem once you do it the first time. Folks all along the route happy to point you in the right direction. Ask the stall vendors rather than the kids who expect to be paid for guidance services. Walking to and from the Square day or night was not threatening.

We stayed in the room right next to the kitchen with the dark brown paint. The room was very nice sized and everything worked well. The shower always had hot water. However, I would not want to stay in this room again. It was noisy from the kitchen and also hot in the evenings from kitchen cooking. Yes, we had a.c. but never so hot to need that. You also had the noise from people coming and going all the time.

The bed was comfortable, the bath towels very large and if you needed a robe it was hanging in the closet.

The roof top is a wonderful place to hang out. It is so inviting with the way it has shade from the sun and places to lie and relax. As noted by others, breakfast on the roof is a real treat.

The breakfast is ample with enough choices to satisfy most everyone. I'm sure if there is something you don't see just ask and they will be happy to fix it for you.

One fault of the property is the hand rails to the roof were not adequate. Most were loose or non-existent.

I would stay here again, no problem. It was a good location, good value for the money and gave one a taste of life in the Medina in Marrakech.

Room Tip: Do not stay on the first floor unless you have a medical reason then would be perfect

Beautiful Riad tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the busy medina area of Marrakech. Our hosts were always on hand with any questions and requests we had and organised any day trips we wanted to go on. The roof terrace and breakfasts in particular were excellent. Highly recommend this Riad to anyone wishing for an excellent time in Marrakech.
