“A magic place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2012

Once you walk through the beautiful wooden entrance door of this unique boutique hotel in the center of the old part of Marrakech (called Medina) you feel immediate relaxation from the vivid and often very noisy (and exhausting) streets and souks of town. The decor of the 300 year old building (a former Zitadel) is just stunning - in the middle of the rotunda is a beautiful water fountain with rose blooms in it, the meticulous carved cedar wood archways decorated with white curtains, the open roof in the middle and the discreet odour of white jasmine gives the place a lot of air and atmosphere. The Riad has six individually decorated rooms (such as the "Pomegranate" Room which I stayed in with great Steve McQueen photos) and on sunny mornings a delicious breakfast is served on the huge rooftop terrace. While you are munching on your oven warm croissant with delicious homemade marmalade, eating fruit salad and sipping on fresh squeezed orange juice you are just carried away by the amazing view overlooking the Medina and the singing sound of the Muezzins who announce their prayers. You can easily spend all day on the terrace of this peaceful getaway without missing anything or feel pressured to do sightseeing. The terrace is definitely the place to be for a peaceful sundowner before you hit the crowded streets for dinner. The German Patron and owner Ina makes sure, you won't miss out on the real highlights of the town and the country. She knows the best places to see, to eat, to shop and also has great recommendations for day trips or longer excursions to the atlas mountains. She can also provide you with a guide and driver in your native language who shows you around. I've traveled to a lot of places around the world but this is one of the few places where I felt immediately comfortable, safe and very well taken care of.

I am a type A fussy traveler perfectionist. And I have to say staying at the Great Getaway was a perfect weekend experience. Everything was wonderful and wonderfully done. It was the second time Ihave been to the city and staying at an European designed and operated hotel versus a local establishment made a big difference. Could be the German precision and efficiency behind it also. Iloved the design. Just enough, but not over done. tHe breakfasts and the home made jellies are perfect. The best is the total attention you get from the owner/directress Miss Ina.
You are a real guest, in her home. I will always come back.

Room Tip: Istayed in jeune fille, a bit dark, but no problem adds to the romance.

My girlfriend and I wanted to discover Marrakech - what we did - but even more we discovered the perfect place to stay for a trip like this: Ina's Riad "The Great Getaway"...
It's a perfect and quiet spot to relax after a day in the old town of Marrakech. This individual Riad in perfect location offers 6-7 spacious rooms, lovingly decorated and each one with different designs and colors.

Ina knows all the good spots and places and takes care about the individual demands and wishes. Whether you're looking for a fancy restaurant, the best fish on the night market, a place to relax in the countryside, a round of golf - she has them all and is happy to take care about all reservations!

If you're looking for a small, individual Riad with charming atmosphere and a caring host: it's a no-brainer - go for it!

Me and my fiance stayed 5 nights in Ina's wonderful, newly refurbished riad in the Marrakesh medina. The owner - Ina's philosophy is to remember each guest by name, no matter when she might meet them again -- and it shows. Personal, attentive but never intrusive, you can count on her to create a charming atmosphere, and make everyone feel at home, starting from a great breakfast, to a nicely chilled glass of white wine just when you'll enjoy it the most -whether on a superb rooftop terrace or in a charming salon on the cushions on the floor. The rooms are homely, nicely decorated, shower is fantastic, and the water fountain, roses, and candles add to the atmosphere. Ina was always helpful in organizing us a guide through the maze of the medina, or a taxi from the best dinner spot in town to the Atlas hiking tour. We highly recommend Ina's riad for a true immersion in the best Marrakesh can offer -- can't wait to be back! Thanks for everything!

This is one of the best places you will ever stay in. The Great Getaway is an exquisite riad with a very tasteful decoration.
And Ina, the owner, is one of th best hosts I have ever met.

A must if you plan to visit Marrakech!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
To hear the voices of Marrakech, one need only sit and wait a moment in the "Great Getaway Medina" located on the edge of the souks. A pair of peach head parrots greets the dawning day in the circular patio while breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. Outside the lovingly restored city villa the donkey carts trundle down the narrow lanes, much too small for any cars. The donkey drivers call their animals’ names or merely click their tongues. ... more   less
