Once you walk through the beautiful wooden entrance door of this unique boutique hotel in the center of the old part of Marrakech (called Medina) you feel immediate relaxation from the vivid and often very noisy (and exhausting) streets and souks of town. The decor of the 300 year old building (a former Zitadel) is just stunning - in the middle of the rotunda is a beautiful water fountain with rose blooms in it, the meticulous carved cedar wood archways decorated with white curtains, the open roof in the middle and the discreet odour of white jasmine gives the place a lot of air and atmosphere. The Riad has six individually decorated rooms (such as the "Pomegranate" Room which I stayed in with great Steve McQueen photos) and on sunny mornings a delicious breakfast is served on the huge rooftop terrace. While you are munching on your oven warm croissant with delicious homemade marmalade, eating fruit salad and sipping on fresh squeezed orange juice you are just carried away by the amazing view overlooking the Medina and the singing sound of the Muezzins who announce their prayers. You can easily spend all day on the terrace of this peaceful getaway without missing anything or feel pressured to do sightseeing. The terrace is definitely the place to be for a peaceful sundowner before you hit the crowded streets for dinner. The German Patron and owner Ina makes sure, you won't miss out on the real highlights of the town and the country. She knows the best places to see, to eat, to shop and also has great recommendations for day trips or longer excursions to the atlas mountains. She can also provide you with a guide and driver in your native language who shows you around. I've traveled to a lot of places around the world but this is one of the few places where I felt immediately comfortable, safe and very well taken care of.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- To hear the voices of Marrakech, one need only sit and wait a moment in the "Great Getaway Medina" located on the edge of the souks. A pair of peach head parrots greets the dawning day in the circular patio while breakfast is served on the rooftop terrace. Outside the lovingly restored city villa the donkey carts trundle down the narrow lanes, much too small for any cars. The donkey drivers call their animals’ names or merely click their tongues. ... more less
