“Dine where the locals do - seafood as you've never had it before!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

The owner of our Riad recommended this place in Gueliz and while it's not fine dining, you can see why the place was packed out. Pick your own seafood, it's grilled and served with some simple mezze. The food was tasty, prices were reasonable, but it's all about the food. Do not go if you're looking for a romantic candlelit meal. It's a good place to catch a spot of inexpensive, well-cooked fresh seafood while you're walking around Gueliz.

“Moroccan Nordzee”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2013

A ville nouvelle "snack bar" by name that is up there with the medina's best street food in terms of quality to cost ratio: four euros and change for a king-size platter of seafood and condiments; two and change for smaller plates.

The place is easily recognized by the traffic (it's packed) and the servers in green shirts with the Snack Al-Bahriya logo. You take a seat, which may be the biggest challenge. (After two meals, I'm still unclear whether it's "wait to be seated" or not, but in any case you pay at the register at the end.) Automatically, first come the four sides: saffron rice, roasted tomato and cumin sauce, harissa and olives. Then the bread. You place your order. Most people choose a platter with fried calamari and steamed shrimp. The extended option - Fritture Al-Bahriya - also has fried cod and a small-boned flatfish as well. The four-euro fish tajine is made with swordfish. Four hours from the sea, and everything is impeccably fresh. If there's a weak point, it is probably the shrimp - somewhat mushy.

“Good seafood, low price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This is not fine dining, it is a street-side open air restaurant. You may end up sitting with other patrons at the long tables, although they do have smaller tables you may get if they are not too busy. Service may look like it is chaotic, but waiters are friendly and very efficient.

You can choose your fish and have it cooked for you, or just order off the menu. Menu is fish, fish, fish, not much else. Everyone gets the small plates of olives, bread, rice, sauces automatically. The battered deep fried mixed plate was so-so, about what you would expect from deep fried fish. The grilled shrimp and fish we had were very good. We returned a few days later for another meal.
Overall good food, good service, and great value and fun.

“Delicious simply prepared seafood at a roadside location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Eat with the locals. The turnover in this place is astonishing!
we went at peak lunchtime and the atmoshphere was chaotic. Choose your own fish by joining the scrum round the ice table, this is weighed and passed to the cooks to clean and either grill or deep fry, your choice.

Once you have commandeered a table, plates of saffron rice, three hot sauces, olives and bread magically appear. When your fish is done, this is delivered to you. Soft drinks or water only obviously but you will not get better or fresher fish anywhere.

We had a large silver bream and eight (I think) huge prawns. These were amongst the best I have eaten. Two of us just managed to finish this.

With a large bottle of water the bill was less than 100 Dm (10Euro)

While sitting there a van delivered 10 large crates of fresh fish and shellfish and about 2 cubic metres of bread rolls. This presumably for the eveing sitting.

Locals go there to just buy fish

Recommended? this place is Essential in Marrakesh.

About 10 mins walk from the main post office.

“simple seafood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2012

We sought out the restaurant after reading the other reviews that are here on TA.

I have to say, if this was the BEST food you had in Marrakech, you should try stepping out from McDonalds every now and again and try some proper food.

Whilst the seafood is fresh and well cooked, the battered mixed platter is just that, a plate of battered stuff with little taste and variety.

Better to have the seafood grilled, then it's OK, but no better than any host of simple seafood places around the world.

Service was prompt and not pushy, price was reasonable.

But really people, the best food meal you had in Marrakech.......rolling my eyes......
