“fun to walk through and shop”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2015

The Marrakesh market, or souk, winds for seemingly miles through the media. There are many "souks" offering a variety of local and imported products. Beware: much comes from China, so if you are looking for locally made souvenirs, you must go to a reputable shop. Prices there will be much more expensive, but you are getting the real thing. One more caution: if you are traveling on the Fez, I consider the shopping there for many items better. Much more is locally made, and the antiques, carpets, certain types of jewelry and tiles are incomparable.

“Bit of an anti-climax”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2015

When we went the square was largely empty apart from the snake-charmers. Try and take a photo without paying and you might be in trouble. One yellow-toothed charmer approached me angrily with a snake wrapped around his hand as he hissed for money. He didn't get it. The main market is a fascinating maze and the stalls are attractive. Again try taking a photo and they go crackers. Felt it was a bit of a rip-off - and we have been to other North African countries - and quite hostile. Morocco is a fascinating place but this market was not a highlight.

“A real eye opener.... ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2014

Take a wander over to this part of the Medina, this is where the locals go for their goods, which means only one thing, decent prices.

This gets you away from the hard sell of the souks. Definitely worth walking distance to.

“Local people were lovely!”

Away from the main souks and square - bought fresh fruit and tagines from here without any bargaining as the prices were so reasonable. Locals were very welcoming.

“Fascinating”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2014

Rue Bab Doukkala is a fascinating local market in which the locals do their shopping. You can buy almost anything from hats to rugs, it is much cheaper than the souks and the best place to buy tagines etc.,. Not a typical tourist market no hard sell.
