“Ideal place to stay for a Marrakech holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We spent 4 nights in the Lalibela suite and found it perfect for our needs. The riad is close enough the main squre to make a brief walk and also to the road where we met our superbly helpful guides for our trips. The decor is very authentic and the splash pool a godsend on our return from some trips. The terrace provides a wonderful environment to capture the sun's rays or shade to enjoy a cold beer from the bar. Perhaps the greatest asset of the riad is the very friendly and helpful staff, led by Redouan, who went out of his way to ensure that our needs were met within the riad as well as ensuring the trips we organised went without a hitch. It made our holiday!

Room Tip: Lalibela offers a level of privacy away from the main building

This is a lovely riad in a fantastic spot in the center of the old city of Marrakech. Although slightly off path, it's within 5 minutes walk of the main square. The decor is authentic, as is the food. Our host, Said, was incredibly helpful and friendly and really made our stay that much better.

We spent 6 nights in this friendly, comfortable riad which is ideally placed for visiting all the sights and places of interest in Marrakech. Our suite, Casablanca, was very comfortable and well equipped and the internal windows looked down over the plunge pool surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery and cushions to lounge on after a hard days sightseeing. The lovely roof terrace was perfect for breakfast, dinner or just relaxing on a sun lounger with a book and a cold beer served by the ever attentive Said. Breakfast was ideal - freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt, eggs, local bread and pastries with jams, and tea/mint tea or coffee. We took a day trip to a Berber village in the High Atlas (Said's home village) and had lunch at Dar Tassa retreat, a haven of peace and tranquility, and walked in the fruit and olive groves and watched Fatima make local Berber bread. Our stay was made by the friendliness of the staff and Nick Anstead of Specialist Morocco, who always had time to answer any questions, mark places of interest on our much used map or suggest things to see. We loved Marrakech, from the noise and colour of Jemaa El Fna to the quiet haven of the Majorelle gardens and Riad Africa is the ideal place to stay to make the most of a trip to this fascinating city. Dai & Jenny

Room Tip: We only saw our suite, Casablanca, which was very comfortable.

This was a very comfortable stay located nearby to the Medina but comfortably away from most of the hustle. We appreciated dinner being made late in time for our arrival and the enthusiasm of the staff to help us with our trip both in Marrakech and beyond.

The rooftop terrace is pleasant but there isn't a view from it, although I wasn't expecting any. It was sad that the rooftop terrace couldn't be used for breakfast after the heavy thunderstorm. It is very well set out like a mini Kasbah.

It would be nice to find out more about the building which is great for anyone who likes architecture as I think most of the original features of the building have been well maintained through thoughtful renovation.

Room Tip: We had the Congo Room which was cosy and the bathroom was excellent and in good condition. The room...

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. It was a pleasure meeting you and discussing your trip to Fez. We like to think of our rooftop terrace more as a roof garden - a pleasant place to relax and unwind. From our highest vantage point in winter months the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas mountains can easily be seen, but they are covered in haze in September. We hope you will stay again with us one day.

We were a group of 18 arriving from the Atlas Mountains having climbed Toubkal the previous day.The Riad was perfect for a group of this size with excellent rooms accommodating us all. The Riad has one of the largest pools in the Medina and a large sitting/dining room which easily accommodated our group. The roof top terrace was also a great place for quite sunbathing and relaxing. Redouan the manager was courteous and provided all we needed and spoke excellent English. Breakfasts were first class and we stayed for supper on one evening, the chicken tagine was the best we had eaten in Morocco and was very reasonably priced. Service excellent. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Redouan will find you the best room for your requirements.

Just got back from a superb 4 night stay at Riad Africa. Had a great 3 night deal through KGB deals and booked an extra nights stay through Sue at Specialist Africa, who added airport transfer as it would have been difficult to find the Riad ourselves. However we were met near to the Riad by Redouan the Manager who took us to the Riad in a matter of minutes. We soon found our bearings and had no problem navigating this amazing city on foot.
The Riad is a lovely place found in the heart of the old city. Approx 500 metres from Jemaa-el Fna square down a side street and is a peaceful hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Marrakesh.
We stayed in the Okovango suite which was well appointed, very clean and had a nice comfortable bed. The room had all the amenities you needed. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, ipod dock, tv, and of course an excellent air conditioning unit. The bathroom was nicely appointed with clean towels every day and a nice selection of shampoo, shower gel and handwash as well as a nice rain shower.
We had a more than adequate typical Moroccan breakfast each morning which was varied and included bread, waffles or pancakes, omelette and a choice of 3 jams, different flavoured yoghurts each day as well as plenty of mint tea or coffee and fresh orange juice all served by the very friendly and hospitable staff.
We had a chicken tagine one evening as part of our package and this was very nicely cooked.
The courtyard pool was fabulous to come back to in the afternoon after a days sightseeing and negotiating our way around the souks and sights and back streets of the city. The roof-top terrace was a pleasant place to take in some much needed shade and a great place to relax and watch the storks returning to their rooftop nests in one of the nearby Palaces.
The Riad was managed by Redouan whom we found to be very kind and friendly and always on hand to offer help and assistance. Ther is a free wi-fi connection at the Riad.
Our room was cleaned each day and the staff were always pleasant and charming.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely riad and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it

Room Tip: Rooms vary in size, and the Okovango suite is on the ground floor facing onto the courtyard pool

A friend and I recently travelled to Morocco. We chose to stay at Riad Africa based on the trip advisor reviews. We were welcomed by Redouan and made to feel very comfortable. We were expecting to be accommodated in a twin room and this was quickly modified by temporarily placing us in another room and was then rectified the following day. We found the room to satisfactorily accommodate our needs. We were located on the ground floor which I was led to believe by other guest a better option for full wifi connectivity.

The room was equipped with a small television (we didn't find the time to watch it), it had a safe in the wardrobe (could have easily been carried away and therefore should have been secured) and there were was no where to hang your wet towels or to place your shower toiletries. I would suggest travelling with a power board as there were limited power adapters to accommodate our need to charge multiple technology devices on a daily basis.

We found the Riad to be a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the streets and the souks. The pool area allowed for a refreshing cool down from the heat and the roof top a tranquil place for some sun bathing and reading.

The staff, in particular Redouan did everything possible to make us feel comfortable and to ensure that we felt like we were at home. He was keen to learn of our daily experiences and next adventures.

We found the location of the Riad in the Medina to be ideal. We stayed at Riad Africa twice during our visit to Morocco and stayed in the same room on both occasions. The second stay was unplanned. It was tucked away in a small lane which initially was difficult to find. And yes, as mentioned in some other reviews on some evenings it appeared a little dark, but as two female travellers we felt safe and the hotel did have torches available if need be.

The greeting drink, first dinner and breakfast were served with a smile ensuring that all could be done to make our stay comfortable.

Thank you to all the staff for making our stay enjoyable, comfortable and safe.

Room Tip: Ground level rooms have better wifi.

Thanks for your comments and for choosing to stay at Riad Africa. We now have WiFi range extenders in the two areas of the riad where signal dropped off due to the 1 metre thick walls so all rooms should offer same signal strength. The safe is now attached so cannot be carried away. More hooks have been added to the bathroom of your room. The street light outside Riad Africa is serviced by Radeema, the local electric company - when a bulb blows it can take weeks to get fixed (this is Africa...) so we provide torches when requested. The Riad Zitoun Lakdim area around Riad Africa is safe though - even late at night. We are delighted our staff made your stay so enjoyable and we look forward to you staying with us again one day.
