My girlfriend booked this as a surprise for my birthday so I didn't know what to expect. From the moment we got there to the moment we left, it was amazing.

As soon as you step through the doors and see the Riad you will fall in love with the place. The owner and staff were brilliant from the first minute. We were welcomed with mint tea before being taken to the roof for a beautiful dinner.

The views from the rooftop are stunning. During the day it's great to spend some time up in the sun and then pop downstairs and take advantage of the pool. The rooms are all beautifully decorated in their own style each with a traditional feel, every trinket and little charm seems perfectly placed.

As mentioned before the staff and the owner were very welcoming and made you feel at home with the freedom to wonder, whilst at the same time anything you need, you just ask and it's not a problem.

Marrakech was a stunning place and staying here just added to the trip. The Riad is perfectly placed and is a 10 minute walk (at the most) from the main souks, probably 15 mins to the main square. It's close enough to be near everything but just enough out of it to be peaceful. We are planning to visit Marrakech again and will be booking a room in Riad 144 without a doubt.

If your are thinking of booking a room, I would honestly advise you to just go ahead and do it, you certainly won't regret it.

Just returned to Marrakech and stayed at Riad 144 again (for the 4th time) and the first time since it has been renovated and extended.
The Riad next door has been purchased and attached to the original. You'd never know as it has been done so sympathetically and gorgeously. It was almost impossible to remember the old layout
We stayed in the main suite in the new Riad which was stunning. A huge room with one wall panelled to accommodate little lanterns and pieces of local art. Another huge wall and the headboard made to look like original wall. Behind delicate screens is a huge bath/shower and double sink, a separate toilet and if you look up a gorgeous bath in a tiny elevated room which can be accessed via a ladder in the massive cloakroom.

All white and black and palatial and overlooking the main centre of the Riad through a wall of flier to ceiling windows. We loved it. Jean, the Riad owner and manager, designed it and has excelled himself.

We saw two other rooms - just as stunning albeit smaller. There is also a new kitchen/dining room area where we had supper in or first evening. A massive chunk of wood for a table with a gorgeous collection of silver lanterns above.

The food that night and breakfasts every day was, as always, perfect and the staff always attentive and helpful from running up to the sun terrace/roof with another bottle of wine or making a reservation in a difficult restaurant.

For anybody new to Marrakech this is a great find and we will continue to return and return. Don't be scared by the winding medina alleyways. It's easy to find once you've been once and is safe and friendly. The Riad itself is around the corner from one of the best restaurants in Marrakech 'Dar Zellij' but also only a 15min walk to Place Jemma El Fnaa.

Jean was away in this visit but his gorgeous mother, Vivien, looked after us instead and was an absolute joy

Room Tip: They are all stunning!

This was a return visit to riad 144 (the fourth in fact) which in itself is a testament to the warmth and hospitality of the owner. Last time we were here the 'extension' was in full swing, now all completed the riad has more than doubled in size yet still retains its charm and coziness. Jean, the owner was in France and we were blessed to meet his mother, Vivienne who fills in when he is away. As Jean has done in the past, she made us feel very welcome and arranged trips, drivers and dinner reservations when required. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The new rooms are amazing and we were upgraded to the large Moucharabieh suite as a thank you for all the people we have told to stay at '144' over recent years. Jean has painstakingly renovated (rebuilt!) the riad next door which now adjoins 144.

The beauty of staying here is that you feel as though you are staying with the owner rather than in some large faceless corporate hotel, so you get a sense of real marrakech. The food is great. You must eat in one night on the roof, dining under the stars and twinkling candles is magical.

Can't wait to make visit number 5!

The Rid is beautifully individually furnished, with individualised rooms and suites around courtyards and off beautiful balconies leading up to a stunning roof garden (with turtles) which is a magical spot for breakfast looking over the roof tops of Marrakech. Great location can walk everywhere. Jean and all the staff were fantastic, really welcoming hosts doing everything possible in a relaxed and welcoming way to make your stay special. Lots of good tips of places to go (we went to the Beldi country club and a trip to the mountains which were both lovely) as well as how to navigate the souks and sights of Marrakech.

Hidden away in the back streets of Marrakech, our 4 night stay at Riad 144 was the highlight of our week in Morocco. On arrival we were made to feel extremely welcomed by Jean & his colleagues. Riad 144 is tucked away from the manic of the souk, where you can enjoy long breakfasts on the rooftop while listening the native birds, and, or even enjoy a drink while watching the sun set over Marrakech. Jean was a fantastic host providing plenty of helpful tips of what too see and where to eat, but our favourite meal during our stay was the delicious traditional Moroccan home cooked meal prepared by the talented chef's at Riad 144.
Highly recommend this hidden gem, cannot wait to return!!

Very nice Riad. Very friendly and welcoming staff and service! Location - good walking distance to everything. Basic included breakfast is good - yet you can order almost everything on top. If you want you can have lunch and dinner as well as in between snacks at the riad. As the matter of fact you wont need to leave! Spend a sunny day at the amazing roof terrace, enjoy a massage, refresh in the small pool, have some great food! Happy vacationing!

Our 3 night stay was one big perfect treat! From the moment you enter the Riad 144 you feel the enormous hospitality from owner Jean and his whole staff! We stayed in the Secret suite with 3 persons which was very comfortable. The whole Riad is beatiful and perfectly styled till the smallest details. The breakfast on the roof terrace is a great way to start the day: the 360 degrees view is marvelous. The services from Riad 144 we used are: hamman treatment, massage, cooking class from Touria, diner in Riad 144 and it was all arranged very well and from high quality. The biggest service was a free one: the natural hospitality which makes Riad 144 very special. We enjoyed every minute of our stay!!
