“A fine example of Morocco style...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2014

Riad Al Loune was our second riad in Marrakesh. We found it very pleasant, here are the details:
- Fairly good location (12 minutes from Jemma Al fna square). No the best location, and for a first timer I can understand how it can be daunting at night. Yet with time you'll find your way, and realize you feel safe.
- The space is lovely, with classical Moroccan style. The courtyard is the center piece of the riad with its impressive architectural details. The rooms are fair and classical. Probably needing some repairs to level up a bit...
- The breakfast is pleasant and fresh. The dinner is also ok but expensive for Morocco and even Western standards.
- The staff is very polite and the service

In conclusion: a very good example of Moroccan Style ... a safe bet for a stay in Marrakesh.

This was a beautifully presented Riad, with a very traditional look to it. Prior to our arrival they sent a very helpful email giving us details about transfer costs, evening meals, massages and so on. The staff were all lovely and organised massages for us on the sun terrace. We asked them for an evening meal and although it was short notice, they obliged and presented us with fabulous moroccan salads as a starter (the aubergine with cumin was amazing!!) and couscous with chicken as a main, which was sadly a little dry. The pancake with fresh fruit pancake for dessert was a lovely end to the meal. The only negative was that the meal came with water, but 500ml between two of us was not enough in such a hot climate, and when we were offered more we didn't realise it would be at an extra cost. And this was a totally dry Riad, whereas a crisp glass of white wine would have been perfect with the meal.

Our room was separate from the others, up a staircase that led to the office area. The room itself was lovely, but the lack of a key left us a little uneasy. I was sharing with my mum and we were a little taken aback at how open the en suite bathroom area was. There were swing doors between the two rooms, but they were see-through and did not fill the whole doorway, and there was a further see-through screen around the loo. One further disadvantage was that you could hear everyone's loo flushing throughout the Riad because it was very quiet, and all the windows were open because it was so lovely and hot!

One real 'plus' in relation to this Riad was that when we left, they offered to store our cases for us, but we explained that we were going to a restaurant which was en route to our next Riad. We named the restaurant, which is fairly well known, and I was extremely touched that the staff at Al Loune realised I had left my jacket in the room, and came over to the restaurant to return it to me. What a lovely thing to do.

In my view, the location of this Riad was perfect. Not too far from the Souks, but far enough away to ensure you don't get disturbed at night.

A nice place with adequate facilities in a good location. Rooms are well finished, decorated and comfortable. Staff generally helpful: keen to assist with bags, etc, on arrival but indifferent on departure. The in-house hammam needed repair as did several other things - including the front door lock! Breakfasts are decent in the Continental style but the evening meal is overpriced and poor - the "pinging" of the microwave a little too evident. The pool is a plunge pool, not a swimming pool. All this said, it offers fair value for money and the lack of attention to detail did not detract from a pleasant stay.

The space is beautiful. The room was spacious and tasteful with high ceilings and a nice view of the courtyard. The Riad has great ambiance, from a rooftop with beautiful views to the courtyard where they serve dinner (for a price) by the pool. The service is excellent - Mohammed and Jawad were always available and took every care to make us comfortable.

Then there's the location... To get anywhere outside the Medina from the Riad, you have two choices: either a) walk through the entire Medina to Jemaa el-Fna (~15 minutes of crowded chaos - and summer temperatures can be >100 Fahrenheit) or b) ask the hotel to call a cab for you from Ben Salah (~5 minutes away), which can cost twice as much and take half an hour or longer for the cab to come. Returning to the Riad (or arriving from the airport) is a lot easier - just make sure to ask the taxi to drop you off at Ben Salah, not Jemaa el-Fna.

This riad is a bit far from the main market but near souks, the Museum of Marrakech and a famous Koran School. It is peacefully located, absolutely beautifull decorated, with good service, nice roof terrace and a fine breakfast. You can also have a dinner there if you tell it earlier. Our Brown Room was on the ground floor and unfortunately we could hear almost everything that was happening outside our door. We would have certainly been happier if we had had our room upstairs! This riad offers you a taxi service and it functioned perfect!

Near the hotel is a simple but good restaurant called Naima, where you can have a delicious home-cooked dinner and in the opposite of the restaurant makes Mr. Youssef shoes and sandales which are really worth of buying!

We were 3 couples wanting to relax after trekking in the Atlas Mountains. The riad was an oasis of peace and tranquility away from the bustle outside in Marrakech. Our bedroom was very comfortable , a large bed with white linen. We had a shower. Pretty rose petals scattered on the bed. The breakfast was plentiful. There was a roof terrace for sun bathing. The location is difficult to find at first but we did eventually get our bearings. A member of staff kindly acted as a walking taxi, we followed him to various restaurants and he came back for us on the first night. Staff very friendly and helpful when needed.

Never review places where I stay, but thought that my spectacular stay at Riad Al Loune warranted a marvellous one! The moment we stepped in we were treated by the managers and staff with the utmost care and respect - welcomed with pastries and mint tea.Always willing to help you with anything whether it be showing you through the alleys and souks of Marrakesh or simply booking excursions and taxis. The hotel is lovely - both traditional yet modern. We stayed in the spacious Grey Room which is on the second floor. The pool in the courtyard provides excellent respite and the roof terrace is lovely - offering panoramic views over the Medina. On my birthday my girlfriend and I were greeted by the staff with a lovely birthday cake to accompany our delicious breakfast - comprised of breads, pastries and preserves. The location of the Riad may seem daunting at first but it is located very close to all the main attractions - being only 5 minutes from the square, and Mohammed who works at the Riad can provide you a map and show you the way. Would definitely recommended the Riad to all.
