“Gorgeous and Friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

We stayed in Marrakech four nights. The riad we originally booked turned out to be kind of a let-down, but we were so lucky to find Riad Al Loune on short notice and move in the next day. The staff is extremely talented and multilingual and everyone seemed very happy and friendly. Our host was able to make several arrangements for us – rental car, hammam, taxi to the airport – that made our time in Marrakech a breeze. The food is absolutely top notch. The interior is incredibly beautiful and comfortable, filled with roses and singing birds – sometimes it was hard to want to leave to explore the city. It's in the heart of the Medina, near Ben Youssef Medersa – right where you want to be. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Marrakech.

This was so beautiful and authentic .Arrived at 2:30 am but where met at the airport and greeted by mint tea and nibbles in the riad .Bedroom(rose room) was so romantic and breakfast served just outside the huge door by the side of the little pool was lovely.Unfortunately my husband was taken seriously ill whilst there but all the staff couldn't have been kinder.Would recommend to anyone who wants the "real Marrakesh" Will go again some day and finish off the holiday we had to cut short.
Only slight problem was the long walk down darkish alleys to the Riad. Added extra excitement when trying to find it !!

Room Tip: Down stairs rooms open up onto the pool.Lovely in the mornings.

I am simply going to add to the many glowing reviews of this riad. We stayed for 8 nights in May and had a fantastic time. Having never visited Marrakech before, the pre-booked taxi suggested by the riad was a stress-free way to arrive after a very early flight. From the moment we were ushered into the beautiful, shady courtyard, with birds singing in the potted trees and rose petals swirling in the plunge pool, we started to unwind. The staff work very hard and are consistently helpful and hospitable, making each new arrival feel at home in their little oasis. We were given a map and had the basic route explained to help us find our way in and out of the local alleys, after that we just got out and explored. Other reviews have described these alleyways as a little intimidating, but we wandered around at all times of night and never felt any threat. Local residents always responded positively to a polite greeting and you just step out of the way of the numerous motorbikes, mopeds, bicycles and donkey carts that slowly weave their way through the pedestrians on the main routes.
We ate at the riad (pre-book in the morning) on 3 nights, and the food was always delicious, varied and generous enough to feed a family of four.
The whole riad is beautifully decorated and well maintained. We stayed in the Green room on the first floor. It was cool, clean and quiet, with a comfy bed, crisp bed linen, fluffy towels and great toiletries. As a tip, the Red room is probably the best room, on the first floor with a private balcony/seating area that looks out over the courtyard. There are sun bathing and shaded areas to relax on the roof terrace. Also massage and hammam areas - both of which are highly recommended.
We went on a day trip to the mountains, but otherwise spent the week visiting the various historic sites in Marrakech, wandering round the souks and people-watching whilst drinking copious amounts of water and mint tea (it was 45 degrees most days). The transformation of the Jemaa el-Fnaa square at night is amazing, becoming a mini-festival for a few hours. The one thing we noticed is the number of tourists clutching enormous SLR cameras - almost everyone and everything is colourful or worth recording. However, the local residents are understandably fed-up (and some culturally insulted) by the constant and generally unwarranted attention. If you want to take someone's picture, ask permission and be prepared to pay a small fee if requested.
We didn't buy anything until the last couple of days, having done a bit of research into prices. Depending on what you are buying, it may not be the bargain basement people dream of, but you can find good quality for much less than in the UK. Anyone experiencing aggressive shopkeepers should just walk away, we found that accepting an offer of mint tea (with no obligation to then make a purchase), a lengthy chat and a bit of humour generally leads up to a discussion of price. Have a price fixed in your mind and start well below it. Ignore all their protestations. If you are realistic and they want to sell, you'll work it out, otherwise, politely decline and leave. Language-wise, we picked up a few basic phrases in Arabic, but otherwise a mixture of French and English will get you through most situations.
We found Marrakech a great place to visit and Riad Al Loune is the perfect base from which to explore. Well worth that early morning flight.

We stayed for 4 nights in March in the prune room - we had problems with the toilet working properly and the noise from neighbours (not guests the people next door) as walls were very thin.

However, the riad is situated in a beautiful building and breakfast in the courtyard or terrace is very pleasant. The location in a narrow backstreet of the medina is not far from the souks and main square but it is easy to get lost.

Staff are polite, friendly and helpful - they arranged a taxi for us from the airport and met us from the drop off point which was very handy as we'd never have found the Riad on our own. They also sorted us out with an English speaking taxi driver for the day to go into the atlas mountains. Unfortunately when it came to booking a taxi to the bus station for the next leg of our journey there was a mix up but they did manage to resolve and we made the bus just in time but it was an expensive ride.

This is an absolutely fabulous place to stay in Marrakech Medina - I would recommend it to anyone. We stayed as a group of 4 friends, but this would equally suit single or couple travellers. The rooms are beautiful and very well equipped with lovely (if unlabelled!) toiletries. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast is delicious and big enough to set you up for the whole day. The staff were very accommodating, taking our collective desire for more savoury items at breakfast in their stride and providing delicious omelettes as a result. We ate there the first night and the set menu they served was superb from start to finish. Very much a friendly, family run affair, the staff all made you feel extremely welcome - even up to springing an unrequested surprise birthday cake on one of our party. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Take care on the marble floors - particularly when the plants have been watered!

Room Tip: Whilst the riad itself is very quiet, the downstairs rooms do suffer from arrival / departure noise...

This Riad is an amazing oasis in the chaotic Medina of Marrakech. It has six beautiful bedrooms, each of them decorated with a special charm. On the terrace, there are some deck-chair where you can lay and enjoy the sunset and the view of city heart and surrounding mosques.
The breakfast is delicious and plentiful. “Thé a la menthe” with some great cookies is served whenever you like to. We also had dinner (that you need to pre-order) in the fantastic courtyard. The food was exquisite, the atmosphere pretty romantic (and at a great price too)!!!
The service is really awesome. Simon and Kadija go beyond your expectations, always happy to help you with whatever you need.
I totally recommend the transfer from the airport as well since the Riad is in a small alley and not easy to find.
Before our arrival, we got an email from the general manager Cecilia with useful information and things to do before getting to the Riad.
Summing up…a wonderful Riad with awesome people in it!

Fantastic Riad. From the moment you walk into the Riad you feel relaxed. The owner is very helpful and ensure that everything you need is arranged. If you want breakfast on the terrace but then five minutes later you decided it's too hot and want it by the pool, it's no problem. The rooms were cleaned beautifully. The breakfast was plentiful and the dinner was wonderful. We will definitely be recommending it to friends.

(Probably would not recommended for a single female traveller as location is down some narrow allies, however the owner am sure could arrange safe escort to souks)
