“Truly authentic Moroccan experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

We stayed 3 nights in Riad Viva. The hotel is very beautifully decorated in typical Moroccan style. The courtyard was very lovely. I could not stop taking photographs, especially the different lamps that were used in the Riad. The rooms were comfortable and nice. Our stay was very relaxing as the Riad's atmosphere was very homely. The staff were helpful, however, only the Manager (Aziza) could speak good english. The Hamam and Massage was very good.

Regarding the location, we were initially a bit scared as the approach to the Riad was through narrow roads which did not give a feeling of safety, however, we soon realized that there were many Riads in that area and that it was not a problem.

Overall the stay was excellent, however, on the last day we were not happy with the Riad's arrangement of free transportation to the airport. In booking.com, it's clearly mentioned that the Riad Viva offers free transportation to the Hotel, however, we were initially asked to pay 200 dirhams. Later they informed us that it would be free. Further, even though we informed them the departure time, there was some miscomunication between the Riad staff and the Taxi driver and they arrived 30 minutes late.

“Lovely Oasis in the crazyness of Marrakech”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

The position of Riad Viva is a little off the beaten track and can be intimidating initially. Its set down small alley ways and is hard to find. I would advise that you use their complimentary taxi to pick you up from the station or airport and then you are delivered to the door.
The riad is very beautiful and well appointed, pictures do not do it justice. Breakfast does the job and they do try to change it a little each day. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and had a three course meal for 19 euros. It was excellent! They sell a limited range of alcoholic drinks
The staff at the riad are helpful and could not help enough. I would particularly like to thank Aziza, Hassania,Khanisa,Fatiha,Rahal and Youssef.
We had a lovely time and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a room upstairs as it is quieter.

“A quiet and relaxing break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The hotel is nice and clean, rooms tidy and welcoming.
The staff is very helpful and friendly. Location is good if you want to visit the medina and is also close to the main attraction in new Marrakech. A nice dinner in the Riad is strongly recommended as the food is probably the best we had during our stay.

Room Tip: Possibly not on ground floor.

“I don't recognise these reviews”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

My husband and I stayed over Christmas, for 8 nights, at Riad Viva. I am quite perplexed by these reviews as our experience was not like this. We arrived only to find that we were in a very small ground floor room - not the 'superior' room we were expecting. If you are on the ground floor it is incredibly noisy. There are no windows to the outside in this room so it vaguely resembles a prison cell. The dinner we had booked was absolutely abysmal. It costs 19 euros each and consisted of 4 teaplates of cold cooked vegetables for a starter, some pieces of really tough chicken in a tagine with olives and preserved lemon (no accompanying vegetables or potatoes) for the main course and an orange sliced sprinkled with some cinnamon for dessert. Our supposed candlelit dinner was accompanied by a loud game of football on the large television in the dining room, which the waiter changed to another game halfway through. Your nights sleep will be rudely interrupted at 5.39am by the Imam calling the faithful to prayer, which if like me you cannot get back to sleep once woken, you will lay in a pitch dark room wondering when you can get away with putting on a light to read. The breakfast was revolting. Most mornings there were stone cold thick pancake things and cold crepes. You get bread, a miniscule amount of butter, some jam and laughing cow cheese portions. On 3 mornings we got tiny pieces of cake, and on 2 mornings some chopped up apple and banana with a miniscule amount of strawberry chopped up in it. Because I am diabetic I asked for eggs which were grudgingly produced, often with raw white or yolk running off them. You also got a pot of coffee and orange juice complete with pith and pips and a yoghurt from a pack of 4. If you had breakfast on the roof terrace you had to contend with swarms of wasps.
To get back to the riad from the medina you have to negotiate, at night, a very dark cobbled passageway with a lot of young men standing around. In daylight there are younger boys playing football, who do not stop as you go past. There are also mopeds zooming around the narrow alleyways. We did not find Aziza particularly helpful, if you complain, as we did, she becomes quite nasty. The women who clean the rooms were lovely, very sweet The riad is clean, but our shower head did not want to stay upright and there are very few comfortable places to sit and relax.
We would never go back to Marrakech, we found the medina to be intimidating, we witnessed several fights - one where young men were attacking an elderly woman. To eat out cost a fortune and was very hit and miss. We both went down with very bad diarrhea after, stupidly, eating in the EL Fna square, which over a week later we are still feeling the effects of. I don't think I shall ever be able to listen to Marrakech Express again!

“Stunning riad in peaceful surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

We had a lovely four night stay in this beautiful Riad, 10 minutes walk from the main square in Marrakech. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and relaxed as possible: nothing we requested or enquired about was too much trouble. The rooms were spotless and eloquently decorated. The roof terrace was a wonderful place to relax after a day around the souks.
