“Beautiful Riad like boutique hotel in great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2014

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at Angsana. We stayed at the Riad Tivaline which was one out of the 6 Riads in the Angsana collection and only steps away from the main Si Said Riad where the reception was and breakfast was served. We had a room on the main floor in the courtyard in front of a beautiful fountain, room was large and comfortable with lounge area and fireplace. Overall Riad was beautiful with a library and nice terrace and felt like a boutique hotel. I really appreciated the decor and atmosphere. The Moroccan restaurant was also excellent and the breakfast was very nice served in the courtyard. The location was great! just about 5 mins walk from the main Jemaa El Fna square.
The only unpleasant experience we came across was upon initial arrival. Because of the small streets in the medina, the location would be difficult to locate. The taxi dropped us off in the main lot/square closest to the Riad. A young guy offered to show us the way, we declined as we wanted to find it ourselves but he insisted and walked us to the Riad only steps away. We were happy to give him a small tip for his help but upon arrival, we found he had couple of "friends" who walked with us and then demanded us give them 100 dirhams for their "help". We refused to give them 100 dirhams but they wouldn't leave us alone and the security guard at the Riad was NOT helpful at all and did not make the guys leave as this appears to be a common situation. We still refused to give more money and I was very surprised by the lack of help since he was "security". Other than this incident, all the other hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful during our stay, all other service was great. They even gave us a courtesy room after check-out on last day before we had to leave for airport due to a late flight. Overall, our stay was very pleasant and I would recommend this Riad to anyone looking for a beautiful boutique accommodation in the Medina.

Room Tip: Rooms in Tivaline were quieter and appear newer.

It is a small boutique hotel with lots of fine details both in the rooms and in the public areas. Very good breakfast! All staff members are very service-minded! But one has to be able to walk a bit because there is not possible to drive the whole way to the hotel and the stairs (no elevator) are narrow. There is a TV in the public area, but not in the rooms. The rooms are big with a good sitting area.

We arrived there, scared because of the horrible reviews on this website, and what was our surprise when we discovered it was SUPER!
There is a fireplace in every room, which by the way is nice, cosy and perfectly spacious! The towels in the bathroom are dreamy, big, thick.
Salah (day shift) and Jamal (night shift, sooooooooo nice) greeted us, were super nice to us, they made us feel better than at home. They anticipated every need, were very helpful with every request we had, and strangely but great is that u never see the other guests! In a word, Riad Tiwaline is a dream place to be in.

Room Tip: Anyone!!!!! Maybe higher floors in winter time are slightly better because more sun gets there?

1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2011

I booked a suite at Angsana Riad Tiwaline in Marrakech and was looking forward to a high quality 5 star experience as advertised, particularly as the property is operated by the respected Banyan Tree group.

The riad is actually quite small with restricted guest space outside of the room, however the library area was very nice and the architecture interesting. The roof terrace is a relatively small area with limited shade and only one small sofa. It was difficult to find an open area to relax outside of the room in fresh air.

The suite consisted of a narrow corridor with a small cell/bedroom at one end and a tiny shower room at the other. The only window in the sitting area looked out onto the walkway with people passing. It was depressing and gloomy, the lights needed to be on at all times.

The bedroom was a confined space with a tiny window facing out onto the street, which let in no light or air. Only a single small cupboard was available with limited hanging and no shelf space, this meant living out of the suitcase set up in the ‘living area’ on the fold away trestle, as there was no space to accommodate it elsewhere.

The room was generally poorly maintained, the front door jammed, the air-conditioning was dripping liquid when I arrived and continued to leak splashing into the living area and shower room. The sink in the shower room was stained; the tap leaked continuously and would not turn on easily. The counter was chipped; the shower would not drain away after use.

After spending an uncomfortable night I was thankfully moved to another riad in the group after complaining. Had this not happened I would have checked out and found other accommodation.

I was very disappointed with the accommodation I was provided with, particularly as it was advertised as a luxury 5 star experience.
