It is not possible to offer enough praise to Youssef and his team at Morocco Key Travel. If you are traveling in Morocco for a few days or a few weeks, you should work with Youssef and trust him to provide you with the best trip of your life. That is exactly what we did and we walked about with an incredible experience in an amazing country.
Our family group of six adults traveled with Youssef’s guide Mohammed for two weeks around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We worked with Youssef for months via email to create the trip, adjust it, understand what we would be doing and finalize details. He was very responsive, accommodating, and patient.
We had some dietary and medical needs that we need to take into consideration and without hesitation Youssef and Mohammed addressed those for us before and during the trip. This helped us enjoy the experience and not worry about issues like that.
The jewel of the trip was our journey to Youssef’s new desert camp in Erg Chebbi. It is at the camp that you understand how deep Youssef’s commitment to hospitality goes. He created and built the camp for the specific use and enjoyment of his guests. Each cabin/tent contains lights, bathroom, shower and running water. It is staffed by a group of young men who tend to all your needs. They cook incredible meals, ensure that you are awake for the sunrise, get you to the camp and back via camel or 4x4.
While at the camp you really separate from the day to day of your home, as well as even the medium and big cities of Morocco. You see more stars than you thought were possible, you have different food, sit around a fire, watch amazing sunrises and sunsets.
Youssef matches you with a guide who speaks your language, but each guide speaks five to seven languages. Youssef met us at the start of the trip and then again in Marrakesh – about halfway through the trip. He was always available via phone, email or text in the event we had questions or concerns – our guide Mohammed was so good we only emailed Youssef to tell him all was going well.
When you are in country and you see other groups, you realize the small things that Youssef and his team do that separate them from the other groups. His vehicles are newer, nicer, and more comfortable. The riads are a little more personal. The local guides are step up from the rest.
In each of the big cities we traveled to Youssef would arrange for a local guide with good English skills and local knowledge to lead us on a walking tour around the city. These were some of the most eye opening and enjoyable experience. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable and patience, taking us as fast or as slow as we wanted, answering all our questions. Helping us take photos, etc.
On a final note, Morocco is an incredibly kind, generous, warm and welcoming country. The people you meet are genuinely interested in you enjoying your time and learning. There are lots of stops (if you want them) at local craft shops – carpets, spices, metal, wood, linens, oil. You can or cannot purchase from each of these vendors, Youssef’s guides make sure you don’t feel unnecessary pressure. We found at each stop a connection and deeper understanding of Morocco.
This trip would not have been possible without Youssef’s dedication to our enjoyment. He does request a deposit to offset some of reservation costs in advance and cash payment upon arrival. You should not feel any concern wiring him the money via Western Union or another service and paying for the trip upfront. This is all done so you have the best trip possible.
