“Sweet, clean, charming, pleasant and quiet!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This little riad is a quiet gem. It is a 15 minute walk to/from the center of the noise and confusion located in the old--and fascinating--Jewish Quarter section of the walled city, close to the King's Palace. I recommend it for the individuals who enjoy clean simplicity and money in their pocket. The rooms are large room with private bath and plenty of hot water. It is under new management, and the previous owner also owns the original named website and left a rather meanspirited message indicating that Riad Shaloma is closed. IT IS NOT CLOSED.

Room Tip: Upstairs would be a bit quieter, but when I was there I had a downstairs and it was very quiet.

We arrived late on a Friday evening and we were welcomed by the guy as soon as we get off the taxi. We ordered a dinner on the night which we thought was not great value as we could have just went out and got the same food at half the price.

It's a bit of a walk from the square. One of the guys from the hotel happily walk out with us on our first time going out so we don't get lost which was very good service I think.

All the staff are very friendly and helped us out with booking taxis and restaurants. The room was very spacious. We had a problem with the shower but it was fixed immediately once reported.

Breakfast is the same everyday which was OK for the price but variety would have been nice.

Room Tip: choose the room near the reception to get wifi

The service was amazing. We loved Marrakech but the staff at riad shaloma made it just as much as everything else did.
Made very welcome, they were very helpful and would give this place 5*
Great location and very clean.

We booked this Riad via Ebookers...and the location of the Riad was different to what was advertised on the website. The location was in fact in the very South of the Medina in a really derelict part of the city. For us it added to the 'adventure' and made it more interesting, as it was really safe. However, I wouldn't wanted to have stayed there if I was a lone female.

The Riad was basic (the rooms have no technology), asthetically pleasing, with large rooms and extremely accommodating staff. The staff were incredibly friendly and eager to please their guests. The cook was excellent and would make us breakfast whenever we got up, which would often be late morning! We had dinner there one night, and the tagine was great.

The room we stayed in was on courtyard level, so we could never open our curtains as we would literally be looking at someone eating there meal, which meant our room was always in darkness. Also, it was so quiet in the Riad, as there were no tv or radio in either the rooms or the communal area (which was fine for us, but sometimes you like a little background noise), so when people ate or the staff were preparing for meals, the noise echoed throughout our room. If staying here, I would ask for a room at a higher level and take earplugs!

There was one member of staff, Adbul, who was in attendance all the time (the poor guy never seemed to have any time off) and would walk us to meet taxis (as the street the Riad was quite remote and we had no clue where the taxis would be picking us up from) and help us with baggage, etc. However, in return for this 'very helpful service', he would overstep the boundary and pull up a chair to sit with us when we lounged on the Riad roof terrace...which is all very pleasant, however a little intense, as he wouldn't leave...and he would come and sit with us when we were eating our meals...not helped by the fact that we didn't speak French, so had no clue what he was talking about??

A pleasant and very basic Riad.

Room Tip: Don't opt for a room on courtyard level.

We stayed at Riad Shaloma 5 nights in Apr and found that the staff (Abdul, Chafik and Najib, Nadia and Fatiha) were very accommodating. It was very clean, rooms are spacious and light, food was good, breakfast was served on terrace.
They transformed the dining area for a Bday party into a magical palace.
The location was great! Would definitely reccomend it and would not look anywhere else to stay when I go back to Marrakech!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good

At first you wonder where you got end up when you are standing in front of the alleyway that leads to the riad.
But when you open the door, you'll find ourself in a small palace.
You will feel welcomed by the staff and they are very helpful. Nothing is too much for Abdul and Shafik.
The room we had was spacious and clean.
There is a terrace on the roof and the possibility to have dinner.
The Moroccan breakfast was very nice and fresh.
The walk to the squares is 15-25 minutes, but there is much to see on the way. There is no need to be scared to walk back at night. I would definitely recommend Riad Shaloma to others!

We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this beautiful riad where our welcome was warm and the service great. Thank you Abdul for your attention and help. We were however disappointed that our 3 day Sahara trip did not include a guide as promised which caused confusion and spoilt an otherwise interesting trip. We also were lead to believe our trip to Essouaria would have a guide which was not the case and we would have been better off taking the cheap and comfortable Supratour bus instead. We feel this is a shame as it reflects badly on a riad which clearly offers a great standard of accommodation in a central location with otherwise great attention to detail.
