“Unforgettable Stay - Echt een aanrader!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

Back to reality after a wonderful vacation in Morocco - made all the more enjoyable for having spent 6 magical nights in Riad Badi.

THE RIAD
As we broke up our trip to Marrakech with a few days in the Atlas Mountains, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to try two rooms at the Riad: the Turquoise Room & the Hibiscus Room. Both rooms were simply & stylishly decorated to a very high standard. We found the beds very comfortable, the rooms spacious (larger than any hotel of recent memory), there were beautifully decorated full length mirrors in both rooms and a surprising amount of conveniently located power outlets - handy for charging phone and camera batteries etc. There was also a safe in each room which was large enough to fit the iPad we were traveling with. Breakfast each morning became a highlight of our day. One of the staff members is a pasty chef, and made outstanding cakes, breads & pancakes. Other favourites were the home-made yoghurt & "Moroccan Nutella" made with Argan Oil. It was also lovely to see how much care and attention the breakfast staff placed in preparing the table every morning, either on the terrace upstairs or in the courtyard downstairs. We also enjoyed one truly delicious dinner at the Riad, which we can recommend to anyone wishing to have a quiet evening in after a busy day in the city.

LOCATION
Riad Badi is just a 10 minute stroll from the Jemaa el Fna square, the majority of the way along a vibrant car-free shopping street. The Saadian Tombs, Badi Palace & Bahia palace are also very close by. The convenient location meant that on a couple of occasions we were able to pop out to see an attraction during the crowd-free opening hours, and still be back in time for breakfast - recommended! We found the whole city to be very accessible by foot from the Riad, and even walked to the Majorelle Gardens one morning. It's probably also worth mentioning that just a couple of blocks away from the Riad there is a taxi stand and a small parking bay which our transfer drivers used to collect us and drop us off. I can imagine this is probably a luxury that not all Riads in the Old Town have, especially those closer to Jemaa el Fna and the busy Souks.

COMMUNICATION
Many words have been written about the excellent service and the warm welcome of Christian and Isabelle - and we heartily agree with all of these sentiments. Right down to waving us goodbye from the door as we sadly said goodbye. Emails were exchanged promptly & clearly, our transfers to & from the airport were very smooth & upon arrival we were given a handy Riad Badi map with attractions marked & contact details of the accommodation. Christain & Isabelle also went to the trouble of arranging us a very last minute day-trip to Essaouira the evening before we wanted to go. Even with such short notice they managed to arrange a great driver, Adil, who spoke good English & and provided us with lots of interesting information throughout our trip.

We will always associate Riad Badi with our wonderful holiday in Marrakech. Thank you Chriastian & Isabelle - we wish you all the best.

Voor de Nederlandse bezoekers: Echt een aanrader! We hebeen heel veel de hele pakket genoten en Christian & Isabella zijn super vriendelijke gastheren.

Room Tip: - The Turquoise Room had a small window which opened onto the very quiet street outside the Riad, an...

Dear J and F

Thank you for your stays at Riad Badi and for your very nice and complete review.
The whole team has done its best to welcome and advise you. For our guests who visit Marrakech for the first time, we strive to help them discover new flavors including breakfast and dinner. Our approach is simple: we welcome our guests as we would be received.
We were delighted to welcome you and help you make the most of your stay. Those days have passed very quickly and they will still need a lot of beautiful places and good restaurants to discover. Why not visit other places such as Fez and Essaouira more traditional quieter and near the sea?
Take care of yourself.

Thank you again

From the moment my wife and I arrived to the moment we departed, Isabelle and Christian went to extraordinary lengths to ensure our stay wanted for nothing. The Riad was clean and charmingly decorated, planted and shaded. Lovely touches of rose petals on the pillows and when the bed was made, the spread beautifully pleated in a fan. We could breakfast on the roof watching the storks nesting or down in coolness of the internal courtyard. Christian gave us a mini-tour and led us to the types of restaurant we sought with what proved accurate advice on price and availability of wine. One evening we had a delicious meal downstairs. And when we asked for tea at anytime the choice was wide and served wherever we wanted and - rather unnecessarily generous we thought - free. They arranged a private taxi with a charming eloquent and careful driver for a delightful trip to the mountains at a very reasonable cost. We met people from other Riads who were not so fortunate. They both deserve every success and hope they are treated as well when they go away as we were in their home. Barrie and Gill Pegrum

Reading the trip advisor reviews before booking produced an astonishingly high percentage of "excellents" which although encouraging, led me (being conservative by nature) to believe that even if Riad Badi was half as good as the reviews claimed, we would at least be comfortable.
In the event, this is 5 star quality at a very affordable price! The seven large guest rooms are individual and contemporary in their design, with very comfortable king-sized beds, very good quality bed linen and an abundance of towels to dry off after a monsoon shower. Christian and Isabelle (emigres from Aix-en-Provence) treat their guests like family friends and are very happy to oblige with guests' small requests --- Christian gives a very good short tour of the immediate surroundings to gain your bearings, and will offer to guide you to destinations within the Medina with which you may not be familiar. The breakfasts (freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries, yoghurts, fruit, with choice of various teas or coffee) are huge and allow you to set off in the morning to explore with a spring in your step! Should you wish to have dinner in the Riad, then an excellent three-course meal is served for EUR20 (wine extra -- at cheaper than restaurant prices). By design, the Riad courtyard is cool, but there is a roof-top terrace to sun-bathe or relax under an awning and observe the storks nesting on the nearby medina wall. It is hard to imagine, within the cool calm of Riad Badi, that the street markets are only 300 metres away!

Thanks for staying at Riad Badi and for recommending Riad Badi to other potential guests.
As you wrote, we receive our guests as members of our family and we try to make their stay as pleasant as possible: our Moroccan girls work hard to guarantee the quality of breakfasts and dinners as well as the cleanliness of the rooms and ..., My husband offers to guide guests who has never visited Marrakech a tour in the Medina and I give some advices very useful for this environment very different from their country.
Thanks again and take care of yourselves.

We were welcomed into Riad Badi by Isabelle & Christian with morrocan tea and sweets which was a very nice touch. Christian gave us plenty of information on the area, he then took us into the Jemaa El Fna to show us around and most importantly how to get back to the riad, this was very important as it is very easy to get lost around the souks.
Our room was very clean and spacious. We ate breakfast on the roof terrace each morning, the breakfast was always fresh with something different each day. We had dinner in the riad one night which was very enjoyable.
Riad Badi is in a very good location and easy to find.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This is truly an oasis in the wonderful madness of Marrakech. The owners Isabelle and Christian are friendly and welcoming and genuinely want their guests to enjoy their stay and get the most out of their trip to Marrakech. Thank you Isabelle and Christian.

The riad is in the southern medina, around a 5-10 minute walk into the main square. We stayed in the Hibiscus room which was beautifully decorated with a walk in waterfall shower and lovely products. The breakfasts are delicious and slightly change every day, but are always to an impeccable standard. We ate on the terrace every morning which is beautiful and peaceful; a great way to start the day.

We organised a camel ride in he Palmery which was slightly disappointing as the landscape is in fact rather dull (through waste land). We also went for a Hamamm and massage which was great, but be warned the Hamamm is rough so if you have sensitive skin make sure you tell the masseuse.

We visited all the sites in he city and also enjoyed getting (slightly!) lost in the souks which are truly an assault on the senses. Although the city is a mad place it didn't feel unsafe at all. People are friendly and will help, but remember that they're probably looking for a tip for helping you.

We ate at Le Tangier which is just a few minutes from the riad. Lovely property which is decorated in a wonderfully opulent style. The food was tasty and there is a good wine list. Dar es Salam is a great place to visit for entertainment and food. The music and dancing was fun and the food lovely. It is a tourist hotspot but worth a visit for the fabulous tiled interiors. We also visited La Trattoria in Gueliz which is a very pretty property with an atmospheric setting in the courtyard. The food was well presented but a little lacking in flavour.

Marrakech is a great place and the Riad Badi a real gem thanks to Isabelle and Christians attention to detail and hospitality. A must place to stay.

The Riad Badi is simply wonderful...why?

W - Welcoming - from the moment you step off the plane and come out of the airport a driver will be there to pick you up and take you safely to the Riad. Upon arrival at the Riad, Isabelle and Christian have the warmest genuine welcome for you which you will really appreciate after hours of travelling.

O - Open/spacious - The riad is very generous in it's space and light. The first floor consists of the breakfast/dining area, comfortable seating areas, an entertainment room, with games, books, music etc. The second floor consists of bedrooms and the third floor has a lovely roof terraced area.

N - Navigation - As you may have read from previous reviews, one of the most unique and exceptionally helpful aspects of staying here is that if you are a first time traveller to Marrakech, Christian will take you on a mini tour to help you find your bearings.

D- Design - As well as the Riad being spacious and tastefully Moroccan in design, the bedrooms are furnished in a simple, modern and luxurious way. There is real thought and attention to detail and it is so inviting to return to your room after a long day of sightseeing. Large beds, fresh, crisp linen sheets. Lovely bathroom with plentiful fluffy white towels and white bath robe. The rooms are cleaned daily by a lovely girl who regardless of the state you left it, she will leave it immaculate for you on your return!

E - Economical - Having researched numerous Riad's, this was by far the best value for money.

R- Roof terrace - On sunny days you have the pleasure of enjoying breakfast on the roof terrace or topping up your tan (beds, towels, and sun hats all there waiting!). There is a discrete toilet there too, so you don't have to go back to your bedroom.

F- Food - you will be served a hearty breakfast to get you ready for your adventures. You can also dine at the Riad in the evening if you feel like relaxing indoors.

U - Understanding - Isabelle and Christian are superb at catering for your needs, whether a bottle of water, arranging trips, taxi's, providing advice. I had a problem with the safe in my room, completely my fault, Christian fixed it within seconds and my initial panic was over!

L - Location - Perfect location south of the Medina. You will be close to Jemaa El Fna square (I recommend eating at Number one, having tried a few), good restaurants (Dar Essalam is superb) the souks are a short walk, the beautifully tranquil badi palace is literally next door to the Riad. Christian will show you where you can change your currency. You can buy lovely fresh fruit on the road to the left before crossing over, strawberries, apples etc.

Isabelle and Christian, the warmest thank you to both of you for being such fantastic hosts. Marrakech is a fabulous place to visit, but you made my trip even more special! Much love, Karen xx

Room Tip: The Cannelle room is spacious and has a window

I stayed here of the Easter weekend. The hosts were wonderful; always around, always answered the door quickly, great helping explain the city, tell me how much things should cost. Rooms are outstanding. Breakfast was great. Deck is wonderful, both covered and uncovered places to sit. Location is south of the Medina, but easy 10-15 walk up to the square. Right next to a taxi stand - I was able to get a taxi at 6:15am to the train station without waiting. A couple good restaurants within 3 min walk. All rooms are great, modern facilities, recently renovated.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, modern facilities, recently renovated.
