“Amazing Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011 via mobile

The hotel was the highlight of our stay. It is location is perfect, being walking distance to the main attractions in the old town. The hotel is themost beautiful, tranquil snd elegant establishment you could ask for. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. Food was delicious. However the best thing about the hotel was the warmth and helpfulness of the staff. They would go out of their way to accomodate all our needs.

Art Deco meets Marrakech....who would imagine! Exquisite architecture, design, service and food. Villa Makassar is located in the center of Marrakech providing a perfect balance of real Marrakech and superb luxury. My husband and I enjoyed every detail and can't wait to return!

I insisted on going to Marrakesh - it was my 3rd time, always trying to find what attracts so many people.
The crowd, the heat, the noise, the smell are the same and have not changed much in 30 years. Well, it's different from what we are used to in Europe, and pardon my expression that con be considered snobbish, being different is not always enough. Nowadays, instead of handcrafts from Morocco, whose authenticity was already arguable in the 80ies, when have now fake Vuittons, fake Cartiers, and fake Polos, mixed with some plastic and a very few shops with medium quality crafts.
Modern city is disappointing - an ostentatious nouveau-riche style, based on cheap "main d'oeuvre" where you may have a first class dinner, at Le Grand Comptoir, for instance, for a third of price you are used to pay.
"Harassment" by sellers is tooooo much!
For me that's not enough, and is not the definition of an "exotic" destination!
Villa Makassar was my fortress in this "hostile" environment.
Quiet, beautifully decorated, elegant and delicious dinners, and above all a warmly and intelligent reception by the owners and employees., made my stay in Marrakesh become positive.

We were whisked from the airport by Jaguar in just 10 minutes; outside we left the bustle of the Kasbah to enter a really special haven which was quite unexpected. The warm welcome took us through the stunning courtyard with a sunken fountain surrounded by comfortable sitting rooms furnished in Art Deco style, as are all 10 individually designed bedrooms, with period pieces collected from around the world. Our room was superb, very comfortable with nice extra touches and incredibly quiet (no children allowed). The staff treated us like royalty, nothing too much trouble and no fixed times for dining. The meals were a highlight of our 3 day stay. The Moroccan chef prepares a wide range of local dishes beautifully; we left the choice to her and enjoyed one excellent meal after another, much more varied than we would have expected. The spacious courtyards, outdoor pool and rooftop terrace with bar and tables to dine on if you wish, with the stunning Atlas mountains as a backdrop, add to its splendour. There is also an indoor pool, luxurious hammam and spa where every beauty treatment and massage is available. Altogether a truly amazing experience.

My husband and I chose Marrakech as a weekend destination from the UK, as it's only around 3 hours away from London. We were looking to stay somewhere special for 4 nights, and were told about this new 'Art Deco' hotel in the Kasbah, so we decided to give it a try.

We were picked up from the airport by Jaguar limo and the drive to the Riad took about 10 minutes. From the moment we walked in we knew this place would be special: we walked down this cool, elegant corridor at the end of which stood an elegant Art Deco statue which seemed to greet us ! The place then 'opened' up onto a bright courtyard. We were greeted by a smartly dressed, friendly (and multilingual!) gentleman, who turned out to be the owner, who showed us around. Every room (10 of them) looked amazing and different in style.

We slept in the Africa-inspired Clement Rousseau room, which was very large and comfortable, with flatscreen TV, complimentary (non-alcoholic) minibar, ensuite bathroom, and even a large marble fireplace, which they lit up for us. Meals consisted of delicious Moroccan dishes and our waiter Mohammed was excellent. We loved the Winston Churchill bar - very cosy, with comfy leather seats. The hotel isn't far from Djemma-El-Fna square and souks etc so it is a great location for sightseeing as well.

This hotel was nothing like we had ever seen before, so different and full of beautiful works of art. It was a lovely break from cold grey London and we are looking forward to going back !!
