“A perfect dream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

We very much appreciated the warm welcome of our host at the airport. Being guided the way through the labyrinth of Kasbah to the hidden oasis of her charming riad was an enormous relief for us. Experiencing two of the marvelous suites during our stays, excellent Moroccan breakfast and fantastic, fresh mint tea served by Assis very discreetly on the roof terrace with that great view over the kings gardens – not to forget the introduction to local habits, tips for restaurants and places to go as well as medical advice – all this left an unforgettable impression as being part of a fairy tale from 1001 night. Thank you Sylvia.

If you are looking for a lovely and friendly Riad right in the middle of the Medina, in a warm and intimate surrounding, with great hospitaliy and service, then Riad Basim is for you. Sylvia's personal touch and Swiss charm, coupled with Aziz's professionalism and discretion will make sure that you will come home with great memories of Marrakech. The rooms are tastefully decorated and the breakfast on the roof terrace is excellent. Really a small gem.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Riad Basim at the end of July 2011 for a few days while in Marrakech. The decor was chic and the rooms were tastefully decorated with regal colours and snazzy lamps. Breakfast was served on the terrace providing a view of olive trees and it was then a twenty minute walk through the medina to Place Jamaa El Fna, Marrakech's main square.

The riad hosts its in-house hammam - you have to give 24 hours notice if you wish to use the hammam, as it takes a while to heat-up, and the riad can organize professionals to come and scrub away that old skin.

What really made this riad stand out was the exceptional service we received. Sylvia and her husband Mohammad made us feel incredibly welcome in their Riad and helped us to plan our trip around Morocco - even arranging car hire for us and suggesting hotels we could stop at on the way. We returned to Riad Basim at the end of our trip for a night before flying home and it was like coming home. If you haven't been to Marrakech before and need restaurant tips and advice on what to see, where to go - Sylvia and Mohammad are fountains of knowledge and very willing to share their views.

We spent a total of two weeks travelling around Morocco and the Riad Basim was undoubtedly the best place we stayed.

Thank you both for all of your tips while we were in Morocco!

We were recommended to go to Riad Basim by some Swiss friends who had stayed there a few months ago. And we are so glad we did as we spent 2 wonderful, relaxing days at the riad. We felt really spoilt by the attention of Aziz, and that extra personnal touch that Sylvia gave us, creating a special oasis of well-being and luxury.
The Kasbah, in which the riad is located, is not like the rest of the medina. There weren't so many tourists and there was a sense of authenticity which in other parts of the medina I felt was missing. The medina of Marrakech is very big and so many riads are not always all near the famous square (Jamaal El F'na ), and at first we thought this might be a problem. But as there was so much to see in Marrakech and not all around the square, we in fact felt quite happy with the location of the riad in the end.
Thanks Sylvia and Aziz for making our stay so special - for the wonderful breakfasts on the panoramic terrace and the helpful advice and recommendations. Next time we will definitely book to do a trip with Mohammed - they sounded so amazing.
