“decent, could be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

A bit on the pricey side for marrakech. the rooms are impeccably decorated and the staff was completely friendly. Our starters were delicious. My wife's chicken tagine was pretty dry, but mine was fantastic. Could have been an off moment. A nice place with a lot of potential, but I think i enjoyed Le Comptoir just around the corner a bit more. Nonetheless, if you dont want the trendy loud music of a place like that, perhaps the red house might suit you better.

“Nice food, amazing decor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

The hotel recommended this restaurant that serves traditional Moroccan food. There is only a 2 or 3 course set menu. We had our two kids (8 &11) and decided to get the 2 course option. Starters were spring rolls and somosas and Morrocan salad. The portions were extremely generous, we could not finish them!

For main, we had a lamb tangine, it was succulent and well flavoured. We also ordered chicken and veal, these were OK not as good as we expected but still tasty.
We went on a Monday night and it was dead, so we had all the waiters to ourselves! They were very nice and professional, occasionally chatting when we asked a question. There was a belly dancer, unfortunately wasted on us, but hey! There was also a musician playing a traditional instrument throughout our entire visit of around 2 hours. The meals were very spaced out and that was a little annoying as mains were served at 10pm and the kids were tired by then.

The building itself was a real palace (built by a rich person) that had been converted into the restaurant downstairs and had living quarters behind and upstairs. We were lucky enough to be shown all the rooms and it was quite a magnificent place. The dining area in particular is spectacular.

The price was around 300 dirhams per person, children were not subsidised so it was a very expensive meal for us as water is not free and around £5 per bottle (750ml)!!!

“Very pleasant but a little expensive for what it was”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2013 via mobile

Visited this beautiful building with my wife after being recommended it by the hotel. You can choose between one of two set menus, 2 or 3 courses. There is plenty of choice within the menus and I personally enjoyed the food very much, tucking into a traditional lamb tagine with prunes. The service was excellent but, as previous reviewers have noted, there were very few people in the restaurant. That having been said, we did visit during Ramadan and whilst we were eating in the evening, perhaps things hadn't yet started to get going?

The decor is indeed amazing and we were invited to look around more of the building. We managed to escape before the belly dancer was wheeled out not that we would be offended by that or anything. It's just not our thing. I think despite liking the food, we felt that it was very expensive for what it was and there are so many better value restaurants in the close proximity.

“Lovely food, but we were the only ones there!”

Had a set menu of really lovely Moroccan food, staff amazing but as we were the only people there it was a little strange, especially when a belly dancer came out...

“Excellent food and spectacular decor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

I had a real feast here as part of a large group of professors. The meat with plums, starters, and desert were all especially delicious. The atmosphere is also beautiful, and there is a belly dancer. A great place for a big splurge.
