My girlfriend and I have just returned from a week in Marrakech. For the duration of our stay we were at this Riad. Quite simply it was superb and we were very sad to leave. The whole experience was great from the quality of the Riad through to the helpfulness of team.
When we first booked the holiday we had debated whether to do the all inclusive thing with a tour operator but we wanted to experience more of the true Marrakech and find a more special hotel so opted for Riad Kheirredine ...
From the very initial contact Valentina was so helpful with guidance on the hotel and then things to do and see in the area...then when we arrived we were met at the airport and taken right to the Riad. We were given a mobile phone in case we got lost or needed any help when we were out and about, and each time we wanted to get anywhere which was perhaps a bit too tricky to find on a map one of the team offered to walk with us - including if we were getting back late at night and needed someone to come and meet us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for any of the staff at the Riad.
On our first night we decided to have dinner in the hotel, which turned out to be more of a feast with several courses..all tasting superb and prepared by our own chef for the night..a really really nice touch..And as for the breakfasts..wow...pancakes, cake, eggs, fuit salad, juice, yoghurt...think it will take a lot of gym sessions to burn it all off but was all worth it!! :-)
In terms of the Riad itself, I actually think the pictures on here don't do it justice. The rooms were very comfortable (if you are there for longer than 2/3 nights, definitely recommend the Rose room due to its size) and finished to a very high standard. The Riad had all of the traditional Moroccan charm whilst having all of the modern facilities that you would hope for.
In terms of the communal areas, the terraces and plunge pool area were great and were kept absolutely spotless at all times.
The whole team at the Riad were so helpful. I really cannot stress enough how much they wanted to help those staying there...whether it be to get you a cup of mint tea after a day in the souks, to getting you a towel after a dip in the pool, or just to talk through some ideas for things to see and do..they really were very helpful, and it was really very much appreciated.
As for the location, it was about a 10 minute walk from the edge of the souks. At first we were a little apprehensive about how we would manage to find our way back each day, but we were given a tour and helped to remember our way back....as a result we never had a problem (whereas we had spoken to other people who were staying at other riads who were not helped in the same way!).
Being in Marrakech for 7 nights we also wanted to get away for a day and the team helped us arrange a day trip to the Atlas mountains ..we got right into the heart of the Ourika Valley where we had a relatively straight forward climb to see a waterfall which was followed by lunch sat in a river (yes, sat at a table in a river!). Definitely worth asking about if you want to get out of Marrakech for a day - but make sure you have sensible shoes!!
Staying in an area near the souks may not be everyone's cup of tea but we absolutely loved it. The local people were so friendly, and always happy to help and have a laugh or joke with you. yes, you needed to be firm when offered some local Moroccan produce but if you were clear you weren't interested the people respected that. The smells, colours and sights of Marrakech are truly amazing and the Riad Kheirredine is a superb place to be based to enjoy this to the full. We shall definitely be returning!
