Le Nid is administered from Dar Les Cigognes - there's no reception on site at Le Nid, which is located in a lane near the spice market. It doesn't look much from the outside, but the courtyard and open areas are very nice. The people at Dar though were friendly, especially the French manager. The room was large and clean enough and the furniture nice, though they were unable to fix the TV or DVD player during our stay. We weren't in Marrakech to watch those though! It's not 5 star, but then we weren't paying 5 star prices and got a discount for staying 4 nights.

I would highly recommend the cookery course and would stay in this raid again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your stay at Le Nid.

Since your stay we have re-installed the satellite television and it is working now. We have added complimentary wi-fi. We have also put a full time person on duty at Le Nid to be able to look after Le Nid guests without the inconvenience of having to go to the other property.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2012 via mobile

I have stayed in Marrakech on one previous occaision and thoroughly enjoyed the 5 star deluxe (modern) hotel accommodation. On that occaision I recall the hospitality and helpfulness of all.

My experience on my first visit was in a modern hotel, and so on this return visit we decided to stay in a Riad to savour the 'rustic charm'.

Selecting Le Nid as our location for 5 nights was however a big mistake. True, I had some reservations about the Riad from its pictures and so had sought to address those concerns prior to arriving. I had exchanged 3 emails with the Riad management seeking assurances that Le Nid would be of the 'quality, class and provide the comfort standards' I sought. The management assured me that I would "be delighted", and tgat if not we could upgrade to another Riad.

My experience upon arrival tiday at Le Nid however could not be further from the truth.

So, almost immediately upon arrival we telephoned to say that the room was dark, very unclean with extremely poor quality fixtures and fittings - many of which were cracked or didn't appear to have been cleaned. The bathroom, for example, was disgraceful - dusty, dirty (the previous guest had 'left the toilet unclean and soiled. The shower head was caked in dust, the towels were like cardboard.

Having called the management to confirm that we sought to pay to upgrade to another Riad we were abruptly told that no rooms were available.

I have now checked into a hotel and have checked online and Le Nid and other riads in this 'group' still accepts reservations. I have also called (from this hotel) and were told that there are rooms available. This speaks clearly and loudly about the ethics and integrity of the hotel.

The additional cost of staying (once again in this same 5 star hotel as on our previous trip) does not concern me.

What does concern me is the poor presentation, lack of cleanliness and dreadful manner displayed by the hotel staff in dealing with me this evening.

All in all a dreadful Riad, populated with some of the most un-customer focused staff - who should not be in the hospitality industry.

I do not believe the attitude of the staff & management at Le Nid is representative of staff or people in general (here in Marrakech), indeed everyone at this hotel has been absolutely delightful to us since checking in. So very different from Le Nid.

We appreciate you taking the time to write your review, especially because it registers your displeasure.

We did exchange emails with this client before he arrived. We explained to him that Le Nid was a budget property and that he might be more comfortable in one of our other properties. He did not wish to pay the difference in price saying that he would wait and see when he arrived. It being Ramadan and the summer, we never dreamt that we would be sold out when he arrived.

When he told us that he was unhappy at Le Nid we offered him our best option which was to stay that night at Le Nid and then to have an upgrade to one of our other properties from the following night when we had availability. He did not want this and chose to leave.

He wrote to us to register his displeasure and we offered him a full refund and our profound apologies that he didn't find it to his liking.

The property had just finished a substantial refurbishment and cleaning, so while the lights may have been out in his room, the property was not dirty and nothing was broken. Le Nid is a 400 year old house in the medina made with mud walls, but with many modern touches and modern comforts. It is not comparable to a five-star hotel in the new town with all the modern conveniences. We are very sorry if this guest felt that we had made an inaccurate description, but do feel our website and our correspondence accurately convey that Le Nid is a no-frills Riad with nice decor.
