“Thank you La Renaissance, very good.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Very good small hotel 4 star plus but not 5.Very good location most attractions straight down main shoping road with lots of restaurants. Within the hustle and busel of a city gives a Marrakech experience. Used two rooms both well maintained with nothing broken 1 or 2 signs of minor repairs, toilet role holders repositioned little things like that. Clean bright rooms, good quality furniture and televisions. Housekeeping work to a very good standard and made up room once a day, no turn down service. As there where no room service menus in the room we enquired and the room service menu is available from reception whom promptly brought one to the room. One minor quibble the in room tea and coffee making facilities advertised are not available. Room service seemed to operate well, however we only used it twice. All hotel staff we spoke to were well mannered courteous and professional. They were happy and capable of giving local advice and arranging excursions etc. Restaurant staff were prompt polite and efficient.
With this been a small building we did notice the restaurants, reception swimming pool etc are quite small. Advertised pictures whilst accurate do not give a good impression of this. However rooms and room size were good and represented appropriately. The swimming pool is a little more than a plunge pool, waist deep and is a favorite hangout for the pigeons, whom do not scare away easily. They just move to other end. We were on the floor above reception on the 1st night when their was a large noisy party till late. We asked to move to a higher floor afterwards which the hotel happily provided. This party only occurred on the 1st night and the remaining six where party free. But if they do have one, remember its a small hotel.
Breakfast is limited to two hot choices for example scrambled egg and kebabs, a generous choice of fruit, croissants, buns, bread, yoghurts, orange juice, tea and coffee, no cereal surprisingly. It is well presented but I think they could extend their food range a little at least.
Overall a good hotel and very good stay. Expect a 4 star or 4 star plus, consider the above limitations of a small hotel and you will get what you expect. Thank you - La Renaissance.

Room Tip: Go high in case they have a party. or go party.

Room was comfortable and clean. Room had a mini bar and wifi access so for an average room in decor it made up for it in minimal conveniences. Easy 25 minute walk to the market center and the Souks. Very noisy, hope you go to bed tired. Busy intersection in the streets below and Morrocans are not afraid to honk their horns no matter what the hour! Excellent attached bar.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room on the back side of the building away from the major intersection.

I stayed here with a friend for 3 nights and I cannot fault it. The rooms are nice with comfortable beds, could do with a slight refurb but you aren't in Morroco to spend time in the room!!!! The staff were fantastic. I have stayed in many hotels and I have never known staff like. Everyone is so friendly and are keen to hear what you have been up to. The rooftop bar is beautiful and so is the italian restaurant.

Upon initially arriving to this hotel, my friends and I were impressed at the location, that we received tea in the lobby and that the room looked nice when we entered. Things fell apart for them the moment we placed a phone call to the front desk to ask if there was a business center to print our plane tickets. The women at the desk informed me that they didn't have a business center, but that I would be welcome to use her printer. I was impressed and headed downstairs. After waiting 15 minutes, I inquired when it was possible to use the printer, and I was told to wait again. After another 10 minutes of waiting (with no guests in the lobby), it became clear that the women was actually intentionally ignoring me. It seemed silly since she had been so nice, so I decided to give up and find an internet cafe. Later in the evening, we needed a blow dryer and were told they "would bring it right up." It never came. The next morning when we went to pay our bill, I asked to see it before handing the man my credit card, and he said something to his friend in Arabic. I didn't think anything of it, until my friend who speaks Arabic told me the man at the desk said "She thinks were stupid that she needs to look at this and make sure its okay." Umm, no, I just wanted to make sure the charges were right. This was literally the only place in Morocco from Tangier to Casablanca to other places in Marrakech that we were treated like this. Not impressed with this hotel in the slightest bit. If bad service isn't enough to steer you away, the bathroom had only 1 dim light and there were no mirrors in the room. When we ate at the overpriced restaurant, we were told half the desserts on the menu were not available. Seriously, don't book this hotel.

The hotel was right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the locals. Me and my husband stayed there for three nights at the end of april. We had a smooth check in, and drank mint tea while we waited. We were shown to our room by Hassan. He upgraded us from the standard room the superior room. The room was big however it had a funny smell! the shower was over a bath tub. and the shower was not even head height so you had to hold the shower head, there was a glass door shielding the water however the water went everywhere when my husband has a shower, the water even went upto the door and into the room!!

There was a Mcdonalds 10minute walk away, and a pizza hut further down. We ended up going on a long walk one day, stopped for some where to eat and then we saw the minerat of the mosque so we walked and walked in that directions for a couple of hours ( we obviously got lost!!) eventually we ended up at jemaa el fna market, it took forever because we didn't know the route but it was fun and we even helped a japanese tourist find the market as well.

We ended up getting a horse and cart back to the hotel which cost us 150dh which took around 20minutes.

The area around the hotel wasn't safe at night, we were walking back from mcdonalds around midnight and were stopped by police (who didn't speak english) to ask us if we were okay. We were confused and said we were fine. Later on i remembered three men walking behind us before the police stopped and they dissapeared afterwards I think the police thought we were about to get mugged. So luckily the police were there at that minute!!!

Breakfast was dissapointing, they gave you once glass of orange juice at your table and then after that you had to keep asking, No one offered us a hot drink on the first day. All i ate was bread as nothing else was edible. I felt like we didn't feel welcome, as if it was a chore for the staff.

Overall, the hotel was clean and nice, bed was comfy although a little small for us as it was a double so my husband didn't sleep!

This hotel is very well located within a comfortable 20 minute walk to the central medina with restaurants, shops and an ice cream palour en route. We stayed in the 70s suite which is very spacious and relaxing and benefits from a large balcony overlooking the main thoroughfare into the city and copious magazines. Room service was prompt and included bringing us ice cold wine glasses which was appreciated.

Check-in was not very impressive with a lot of confusion over which rates we'd booked and breakfast staff were a little slow but overall the service was friendly. We had lunch in the brasserie which was very nice and the menu was varied. We also dined one evening in the Restaurant Le Mirador which was very peaceful and the meal was delicious.

As part of our booking, we received a complimentary hammam which whilst a interesting experience, I am not sure if I would be repeating as the service was not very personable nor was it relaxing. However, overall we throroughly enjoyed our stay and the opportunity to escape the bustle of the inner medina.

Room Tip: 70s suite is a interesting novelty - 70s decor!

We booked this hotel after reading such great reviews. It's not a 4 start hotel, although our room was clean, it was somewhat dated. Every time that we turned on the water or flushed the toilet, the pipes made an odd sound for about 30 minutes.

The decor reminded us of an outdated, contemporary, Austin Power's room. The breakfast was boring and the exact same menu for our 4 day stay including: hard boiled eggs, bread, cheese, fruit. Some days, the staff did not bring out additional food items. Finally we decided to get breakfast from a neighboring restaurant instead.

The hotel was in a great location, about 15 minutes from the airport and many other things. The room didn't cost us much. We booked on booking.com. Decent value for our money, but not a luxury stay.

Room Tip: Request working air and a good view. Your view may not be so good, but you'll have more room.
