“Highly Recommended!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

I stayed at Mon Riad in January 2012 with 8 other friends. I can't recommend it enough! The location was within walking distance to all major sites while being located on a quite street. The rooms were very clean and had an authentic Moroccan feel with the updated modern amenities. Hot water was plentiful for showering and there was functional heat and air conditioning! Wifi worked great! The staff was incredibly kind! They organized a midnight pickup for us from the train station. The driver couldn't drive directly to the Riad (as is very common because of the narrow street) but was able to get us within a 2 minute walk and walked us directly to the Riad. There we were greeted with tea and cookies! On the day we left, the staff kindly prepared an early breakfast for us! The included breakfasts were wonderful and carried us through much of the afternoon. They consisted of crepes, jams, cereal, milk,
yogurt, fruit, juice, coffee, tea, bread, nutella, cheese and muffins!

One night I stayed in and must say that as a female, I felt very safe!

To be fair, I want to note....the lobby gets busy with breakfast around 9am so if you like to sleep in, you may want to bring ear plugs or request a room on the top floor. I have hear this is common in most Riads with the central lobby and cement structures. There are no TV's in the rooms. This was not an issue for me. The rooms with two twins are noticeably larger than one double. There are no safes in the rooms. The Riad offered us to use their central safe. My group chose to either wear travelers pouches or leave our valuables in the rooms, both of which worked out just fine. Also, as someone who likes firm beds, these are very firm...the most firm I have slept on ever.

Room Tip: If you are. Couple, I recommend requesting a room with two twin beds pushed together as the rooms ar...

Jonathan, the Manager, and his staff at the Monriad could not have been more helpful, from the initial transfer from the airport to letting us stay on in two rooms after the due time to vacate so that we could shower after our last visit to the legendary Souk. The ambiance is 'local', just as we wished it to be, the rooms small but clean, with more than adequate heating for the cold evenings and mornings that prevail at this time of year.
We were two families of three, and the beautiful sunny days coupled with an excellent hotel made for a really pleasant winter break.

This review is way over due! This is especially so given the extensive help that I received (at no additional charge).

So, first, location. Very close to the main parking lot for the Medina and the Palais Bahia. It's approximately 140 meters walk from the edge of the parking lot to MonRiad, but getting there the first time can be a little tricky with necessary twists and turns in the Medina. From the parking lot you walk north about 75 meters on Rue Riad Zitoun el Jdid. At that point you run into an intersecting walkway that heads west. If you quickly pass a laundry on your left you're headed in the right direction! From the intersection with Rue Riad Zitoun el Jdid walk a short 35 meters and turn left into an open area with buildings on three sides. Proceed 30 meters with MonRiad being the last door on the right. The GPS position is approximately 31 degrees, 37 minutes, 21.48 seconds North and 7 degrees, 59 minutes, 6.49 seconds East.

The Riad itself is well equipped and new compared to my other accommodations in Morocco. MonRiad was opened in 2010 and I found the creature comforts, including heating, to be much appreciated during chilly winter evenings.

There's a nice area up on the rooftop where you can get sunshine and your bearings from, although photography of adjacent buildings and their residents is off limits.

Breakfast and other meals are served on the ground floor and I generally positioned myself near the whirlpool/water feature.

Now, for the outstanding service! Jonathan really shone! This was during the first major tumult in Egypt and my next flight was to Cairo on EgyptAir. Due to civil unrest flights into and out of Cairo had been cancelled for days. Jonathan made repeated calls on my behalf to try and find out if there would be a flight on the day I was supposed to fly. While I was still at the Riad, I was watching TV downstairs near the fireplace when I saw the live announcement on TV that Mubarak had resigned.

His resignation aided my travel plans and Jonathan was able to confirm my reservation onto Cairo.

Also, MonRiad was an absolute bargain price wise. My all inclusive nightly rate in February 2011 was only 40 Euros which was less than half of what many other Riads were charging. I think that the prices may have come up some since I was there, but still very reasonable from what I could see.

So, treat yourself by staying at MonRiad and pass along "thanks" to Jonathan for assisting a Wayward American with EgyptAir during the Arab Spring.

This is a place within 10 easy mins walk of the main square of Marrakech, situated in the buzz of the Medina but nevertheless in a quiet spot with wonderful staff. Hotel is clean & authentic with a nice sun terrace. I know they have a dinner menu but we didn't try it, so can't comment.

This is the place for an authentic experience - the rooms are clean and comfortable but but don't expect 4/5 star luxury.

Would definitely stay again.
