Me and my boyfriend stayed in this Riad for 5 nights at the beginning of feb 2013. We had a really wonderful time in this Riad, beautifully decorated and it feels like an oasis of calm once you walk through the door.
Firstly, you must book a transfer. The medina is a maze and you can easily get lost as there are no sign posts. The Riad is tucked away in the middle of it all but is a short walk of about 10 mins from the souks. A hand drawn map is provided but it is not as easy as you think. However, once you do it once it is easy to find your way.
We stayed in the Mathieu suite which was lovely. The bed was really comfy, bathroom was lovely but during this time of year it gets really cold in the morning and evenings and there is no heating within the Riad apart from a small electric heater provided. We were really worried about this as it was not heating our room up and become very uncomfortable. We contacted the manager Thierry and he kindly gave us another heater which made the room much warmer.
The roof terrace was our favourite bit about the whole place. Just beautiful and comfortable and views that just kept on going. The call to prayer is great to hear too.
We had dinner 2 nights here which was great, home made traditional food which we miss already. The lady serving us food every day didn't speak English but was really lovely and welcoming.
Our only negative thing to say is that the manager Thierry didn't speak very much English at all. It's great for French people but for English you pretty much have to figure out Marrakech for yourself. We did feel quite frustrated when we had questions and directions not being answered. On two occasions we asked for directions which were pretty rubbish and we got lost both times and came across difficult situations with the locals. As we were the only guests in the Riad at this point and had been told by friends staying in other Riads that there host had personally shown them the way, We feel this could of been done for us but unfortunately left us pretty upset with the service.
Having said this about the negatives, you may well find they improve on this. It was clear to us that they genuinely pay attention to reviews on trip advisor and try to improve their service, for example, if you read through previous comments from other guests, you will find one person complained about the cold and said there was no way of heating there room during the winter but we found a heater provided for us. Also, there were comments that there was a lack of variety provided for breakfast, such as eggs but we were served eggs every day.
All in all though, we thourghly enjoyed staying at this Riad and would recommend to friends and family. It was very relaxing and a great way to escape from the craziness of the main square which can be a little too much sometimes.
