This is really nice place to visit all pictures black and white from Marakesh and Marocco and takes you back in time. And people will spend time with you. I will recommend this place to be.

“Maison de la Photographie 1870-1950, Marrakesh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Definitely go: an intriguing collection of historic photography of Morocco housed on several floors of a beautifully renovated riad with a small roof terrace restaurant. It’s open long hours and worth the visit. Opened in 2009, this gallery, showing the owner’s collection of historic photography of Morocco, 1870-1950, is a rich addition to sites in Marrakesh of art, architecture and cultural history. The collector/owner, who lived previously in the Himalayas, shows and sells prints from his collection of travel, documentary photography by travellers, anthropologists and others, primarily outsiders looking in on an exotic culture through an Orientalist lens. Yet these images give us a tangible sense of lives and actions, personalities, landscapes – wind, weather, dust and skin. It’s a Morocco distant and gone, but it’s also the Morocco that continues in the arid landscapes of the mountains of the moon, the pastoral stretches where Shilha boys still graze their sheep as their grandfathers did.

“Well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

We enjoyed looking at the carefully chosen photographs here and really found a lot of emotion in some of them. Would highly recommend a visit. In a delightful neighbourhood even though a bit tricky to find-it is well signed.
