“An oasis near the square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

I stayed 6 nights at the Sara side of this riad. A lovely quiet place to return to after the craziness of the souks and sights of the city. Great breakfasts, clean rooms, friendly staff. A little outside seating area was lovely to relax in. The owner visited a couple of times, and checked all was going well, making my stay seem more personal, caring and friendly.
The hammam with massage was very good, and the rooftop was set up with sun loungers tp soak up the rays.
The location is handy to most tourist sights, you can't drive all the way, be prepared to have a guide show you the last few metres. The maps do not show every detail, but local people are helpful. Up the road, the Henna Cafe was always welcoming with a selection of inexpensive light meals.
This riad was recommended by another traveller, and I would certainly recommend it to others.

“Wonderfully private”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2011

I stayed here one night, then moved over to the adjoining Dar Sara. I kind of wish I'd gotten to stay in my room here, because it was so secluded and private. There are just three rooms, and they're all one flight up and have their own little outside terrace area. (Over at Dar Sara, I had a slightly bigger room, but it opened right onto the public central courtyard, so I had to keep my windows closed for privacy, and be, um, very quiet in the bathroom.)

The really nice thing is that you have access to Dar Sara (you just walk through a little dogleg hallway), where there's a nice big courtyard with orange trees, and a little pool. But the room rates at Dar Sara Srira don't account for the pool...so it's a little freebie.

Overall, I loved my stay at all three of the places in the Marrakech Riads group (I also stayed at Dar Baraka). They're in a great neighborhood--very normal, non-touristy, with a good regular shopping street running through, but just a short walk to the souks. And they're owned by a Moroccan guy (most riads are expat-run) who was one of the first people to encourage building restoration in the medina. He's done a spectacular job--the hotels all feel suitably old, without being run-down, and the style is spare and relaxing. And the prices across the board are really excellent.

If you need to be waited on hand and foot, though, these places are not for you. English isn't top on the fluency list, and staff stay in the background--you feel more like you're at a private house. If you don't feel comfortable doing the occasional pantomime to get your point across, or walking around the house to find someone to ask a question of, then go for a more full-service place. But this suited my needs perfectly--I really got to imagine I was staying in my own little house in the medina!
