“Lovely traditional and welcoming riad right in the heart of the old town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2012

Stayed at the Riad Asna with my husband for a long weekend in March 2012 for my 50th birthday. Lovely traditional riad right in the heart of the old town. A little oasis of calm just a stone's throw from the hustle and bustle of the traditional market street of Bab Doukkala, and walking distance to pretty well everywhere. The French owner Veronique is very welcoming and very helpful and her English is perfectly adequate so we did not find any communication problems. We ate at the riad 2 out of our 4 night stay and it was excellent simple Moroccan fare, and wonderful to sit out on the rooftop terrace to eat it. The riad is tucked away and not easy to find, but we booked a taxi transfer from the airport in advance through Travelrepublic which may have been more expensive but certainly saved any hassle. Only downsides to the accommodation were limited hot water and only a thin curtain separating the bedroom from the ensuite, so not particularly private!

Having been to Morocco before and spent a significant amount of time there, I had high hopes for my first riad stay in Marrakech. I can say that Veronique and her staff are spectacular! The riad was gorgeous and centrally located (10-15 minute walk to Majorelle and Djemm el Fnaa) and the rooms exuded simple luxury and elegance. I would highly recommend that travelers take advantage of the airport/train station transfers that the riad offers - it will save you any headaches of (a) finding the riad and (b) dealing with the overtly zealous taxi drivers looking to to gain a fare. The staff was hip, young, and professional and made it feel like a home with friends rather than a hotel staff. I really cannot recommend this riad enough - it was a tranquil oasis of calm in Marrakech. It was beautiful, a terrific value, and a joy to stay at.

We stayed here for 3 nights and overall were pleased. The riad felt authentic and was beautifully decorated, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. We especially loved the refreshing pool.

The staff were equally friendly and welcoming however we only met one member of staff who could speak English and unfortunately she did not work at the weekend. Our French is ashamedly poor and this did present ongoing communication difficulties.

The riad was difficult to find and due to it being in a slightly less touristy area, we did experience a certain amount of hassle on the market street outside.

Stayed with 12 friends (all ladies) three nights in this ideally situated riad, and since there are 6 rooms, it was immediately privatized and that was super, for a riad, unlike any other hotel, is a private house with all rooms opening out to the central patio. So we invaded the property of Veronique, our charming hostess, who had everything super organized for us. Our wishes were: airport service in and out, eating "in" above on the terrace the first night (we were served a delicious couscous) - we also had a super breakfast in the morning, again on the roof terrace, each morning a different kind of pancake, fresh orange juice, coffee and super friendly Karim to serve us - next day a guide to show us the highlights of the city for the entire day, with a perfect lunch in a local but very young and modern restaurant "déjeuner à Marrakech", a "panoramic car", which turned out to be a Mercedes Viano, for a trip through the "three valleys", her idea, and a very good one, with lunch in a berber village (the mother of a friend cooked for us!), and a cheerful young driver "Zach", she helped us in every way possible, making reservations at the "café de la poste" and "al fassia", splendid restaurants. She also made sure we got our visa card back that was swallowed by the ATM at a local bank without any loss of time! All in all: she was the perfect host, it was the perfect riad and therefore "the perfect choice".

A beautiful, traditional riad that has been outstandingly restored, this is a great place to stay. Right in the middle of a market area, yet very quiet, you are within easy walking distance of everywhere in the Medina. Veronique and her staff do everything to make you feel at home; the food is terrific and the atmosphere friendly. Its location is such as to be a convenient base when visiting souks or any other part of the Medina, yet it is close enough to get out into the new part of the city. The only downside is that it is almost impossible to find unaided, so call Veronique first and she will guide you in. It is also extremely good value for money.

Ideally located in the Medina of Marrakech at 10 minutes walk from all the attractions and places to visit. Veronique and her staff are an amazing group with customer service at the heart of the operation.
The Riad is located in the Bab Doukkala area and is not the easiest to find but is just enough off the beaten path giving any traveller the calm and quiet required to re-charge your batteries away from the hubub and chaos of the Medina.
Veronique can suggest and will arrange for guided tours, restaurants and most anything a wandering traveller needs. The staff prepares exquisite Moroccan meals on request (if you wish to have supper at the Riad, simply mention what meal, when (timewise), and where in the Riad you would like it served (main floor courtyard, 2nd Floor Salon or even up on the terasse).
For being a transplant to Marrakech, Veronique has a wealth of knowledge about this beautiful city and the culture that it permeates, don't hesitate to have a conversation that will amaze you.
The rooms of the Riad are comfortable, well decorated in traditionnal Morrocan style with personnal bathrooms. Hot water in the showers at any time of day as well as clean linnen, towels and plenty of toilet paper (LOL).
Don't forget to drink the Berber tea if offered, even when arriving late at night, Saiid (night watchmen) will offer to make a great pot of tea that will help you relax during you first night.

What we liked best: Veronique and her staff made us fell welcome at all times.

What we liked least: The temp of the water in the courtyard pool (BRRRR!!!)

In all, this one of the best Riads I've had the chance to visit.

Stayed here in early March, can only give it our highest recommendation. Off the beaten track it was a little oasis from the hussle and bussle of Marrakech. Veronique, the host was charming and very helpful, always willing to offer advice. We spent many evenings chillings in the peace of courtyard. The rooms are comfortable, not the biggest ever but more than adequate, look at thephotos, what you see is what you get. We had one meal at the riad which was excellent, even though we arrived back late and hadn't ordered a anything beforehand, Veronique was able to organise a beautiful meal. Would definately go back. Recommend you ask Veronique to arrange a transfer from the airport, we don't know how we would have found it without her. It was 10 mins from everything you would want in the area of the Square.
