I wanted a complete escape from the UK for a few days, to a different culture, yet with as short a flight as possible, to be able to make the most of a warmer climate in November. Marrakesh fitted the bill, and wow, what a place.
A short interesting drive from the airport, I was met, as arranged by management, by a baggage carrier who took me to the Riad through the maze of narrow streets. It was very exciting and there was a real buzz with all the traders and activity. I wondered where I was going, but it was only a 5 minute walk to the Riad and on entry it was a different world - peaceful and tranquil. My room was beautifully furnished in traditional Moroccan style and very clean. There was a television, DVD, i pod station, still and sparkling water, luxurious towels, bath robes, toiletries and a hairdryer. Heating or air conditioning was available in the room if required. There was a good selection of DVD's, books on Morocco, and a laptop in the small comfortable library. The Moroccan staff could speak English and were lovely; helpful and friendly. My breakfast was amazing, and consisted of freshly squeezed orange juice, a yogurt drink, tea or coffee, traditional bread, croissant, pancake, a selection of freshly prepared fruit, a variety of jams, and one morning I had a boiled egg. It was enough to last me all day! In the evening I ate out at restaurants recommended by the hotel manager. The sun terrace was a wonderful place to sit and read during the day. Evening meals were served here if taken, with an open fire to take off the evening chill.
I found the Moroccans friendly and not too persistent while out exploring the Medina. The Riad is well positioned only about 10 minutes walk from the square. I would recommend a Hammam, the Moroccan spa bath and massage. The manager of the Riad arranged it for me, and would have arranged other trips if I had wanted. I was shown around the other Riads owned by Pureriads and all were a high quality with their own unique charm. I would recommend Marrakesh as a destination, most definitely Riad Adore. I can't wait to return.
