“Perfectly safe to go to Marrakech now, and Riad Anabel is the best choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2011

I've just come back from Marrakech and I already miss Riad Anabel and Habiba.
I'm going to repeat briefly what it has already been said about this Riad and add maybe something new. It's spotless clean, elegant yet traditional, convenient location (if you turn right on the main road, coming from the riad, after 5 min walk there's Jemma El Fna; if you turn left instead, 2 min walk there's a small square with taxis: for 20 dirham/2 euro you can go anywhere in Marrakech, with 50-80 dirham to the airport (but you have to bargain hard). I suggest you to arrange a pick up service with the hotel when you arrive, if you don't know your way around). All rooms have very confortable beds and a beautiful moroccan style bathroom (some with shower, some with tub). Habiba will fulfill all your needs, and more... (I brought some mint plants at home with me that she found for me). We had a wonderful dinner cooked by her, I regret we didn't have more, but unfortunately there was not enough time, we wanted to try different places. But believe me, Habiba's dinner was the best of all. The Riad is just off a main road, in a very clean alley, perfectly safe area, and speaking of safety, I have to spend some words about it. Lately we have heard the news about riots in north Africa, assuming that in Morocco there is the same situation as in Libia and Tunisia..., more or less... WELL, IT'S NOT!!! Morocco has nothing to do with what is going on in North Africa. DON'T BE PUT OFF BY THE NEWS: it's safe to go to Marrakech, nothing is going on: there has been a regular manifestation in february, like we have hundreds in Europe all the time, and that was it. So, don't worry and just go to Marrakech: you'll enjoy it! Just to be sure, you can check your government web site about going abroad to risky countries (in Italy, you can check http://www.viaggiaresicuri.it/?marocco ), and you'll see that is perfectly safe. Back to the Riad, now. I really think it's the best you can find considering all factors: service, rooms, location, price. I highly reccomend it. I'll definetly go there again.

Our trip to Marrakech would not have been so memorable without our stay in Riad Anabel with Habiba. She looked after us so well from the first moment, showing us around her riad with great pride and enthusiasm, and telling us all her tips and advice. Our cooking class with her was just brilliant - using all her local knowledge and anecdotes - and then allowing us the privacy to soak up a very romantic and special meal (which was the best food we had in all of Morocco). She went out of her way to find us spices and even gave us a wonderful gift at the end of our stay. Quite simply - it couldn't have been better, and the smiley, friendly staff made it difficult to want to leave. Col & Ansa (NZ)

This riad has a great location in the medina. I stayed here once before and came back for the great service. Habiba (the manager) works very hard to make you feel very welcome and will help you to arrange activities according to your interest. She is also a great cook and you can arrange to have her cook whatever you like. If you enjoy your supper at the riad you can even learn to make it! Habiba offers cooking classes right in the riad. There is a lovely rooftop terrace where you can have your breakfast in the morning if you like. Free wifi is available.

We stayed here around Christmas 2009. The hostess was friendly and helpful. We had a few meals prepared by the hostess and the food was delicious. We highly recommend this riad to anyone visiting Marrakesh. We had never visited Morocco and would stay here again if we visited the area.

Located off a well-travelled street of shops, beautiful Riad Anabel is situated within a labyrinth of neighborhood streets. Behind the unassuimg facade in an oasis: a quiet garden courtyard interrupted by the chirping of small birds and a bubbling fountain. A stark contract with the busy-ness of Marrakech.

Resident manager Habiba warmly greets you and offers suggestions on where to eat and to visit. Marrakech is full of many eateries to choose from. So to reduce the chance of disappointment we followed Habiba's recommendations and were happily satified! My only regret was not scheduling a dinner in advance in the Riad Anabel cooked by Habiba and her staff themselves.

Habiba will arranged guides and transportation for daytrips and to/from the airport. We also got to learn about the history of the riad and the growing tourism in Marrakech from Habiba, which added to the richness of our experience while staying at the riad.

After traveling through Egypt we came to Morocco and landed at 1am in Casablanca, we decided to travel immediately to Marrakech by car and arrived at 4am. Unfortunately we were unable to contact the owner of Riad Eden where we were initially booked. We were taken around the corner to the Riad Anabel where the hostess, Habiba herself welcomed us and invited us to stay the night. She allowed us to sleep in to recover, gave us breakfast and insisted that we not pay for the room (however the owner of the Riad Eden wanted his commission so we had to pay).

The following night we headed to the Riad Eden which was lovely but nothing compared with the GENUINE hospitality offered by Habiba and her staff. As such after 2 nights at Riad Eden, we made our way back around the corner to the Riad Anabel :D

We cannot say enough how much we enjoyed staying at Riad Anabel. It was an amazingly clean & beautiful Riad, in the traditional Moroccan fashion.
Habiba took us shopping, brought in a Henna artist for us, gave us shopping tips and cooking lessons. On a personal level Habiba even purchases warm clothing to take up to the less fortunate locals in the Atlas Mountains. A truly beautiful person.

The rooms were clean and beautifully presented with attention to detail throughout.
As for location, a mere five minute walk through the Medina brings you to the Jemaa Al Fna Market place, try out STALL 14 for amazing Calamari and fish!!! We also recommend the Bain de Marrakech a 10min walk/short cab ride away...

As you can tell we would HIGHLY recommend staying in the Riad Anabel and would not hesitate to return one day if we are fortunate! Thanks Habiba, sorry it took me so long to give a review, I hope you still love the slippers/babouches xx Joel & Rebecca

The location of this Riad is perfect. When we first arrived, we had someone take us here with our luggage. It can be quite daunting if you don't know where you're going as it's easy to get lost in Marrakech!

When we arrived, I and 3 other friends were greeted by Habiba, who was waiting with a pot of mint tea and a map! As we arrived in the evening, the Riad was lit up with lanterns which looked absolutely beautiful. Habiba was so warm and welcoming and attended to all our needs. The staff working here was ever so helpful and could never do enough. Habiba went out of her way to ensure our stay was as comfortable as possible. She recommended from where to eat, ways to haggle and places to go.

I and 2 other friends stayed at the Rose Suite, whereas another friend stayed at the chocolate Room which is situated on the ground floor. The rooms were cleaned to perfection on a daily basis and always left us surprised and slightly embarrassed as our room was always a mess! (3 girls sharing 1 room!)

Riad Anabel is only a short distance walk to the Djemaa el fna square - approx 5-10 mins..This worked out great as we would go to the square everyday!

A big generous breakfast on a morning would keep us going throughout the day. Breakfast was served whenever we wanted, sometimes on the terrace and other times in the courtyard.

A big thank you to all the staff for being so accommodating to our needs. A special thanks to Habiba, who was like our second mum whilst we were out there. I would highly recommend Riad Anabel as the place to stay whilst in Marrakech.

From Tab, Arzoo, Habiba & Rani.
