“Haven of peace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2012

We felt the staff, especially the ladies were friendly and always did their best to help us. They serviced our room every day and they made us English tea (provided by us) in the afternoon. Which was so welcome after the madness of the medina and souks. The journey from the airport was an adventure in itself, it certainly would have been better to make arrangements with Said the Riad manager to have been picked up, but we didn't have contact details so here is the website should you need it;

Overall the value was exceptional, a genuine atmospheric Riad for just £50 a night including breakfast - you can't argue with that :-)
Be sure to have the Hammam experience at the nearby Riad owned by the same man. It was a private session for just my partner and I and although he laughed like a girl when they did his feet we both enjoyed it a lot. Couldn't believe how scrubbed and clean we felt after!

The only downside was the beds were the hard side of firm.

I get the feeling that a lot of Riads within the Medina are pretty similar. They are all beautifully decorated and provide yummy breakfasts of specially prepared crepes and jelly. What made Riad Cherkaoui a great place in my opinion was the hospitality. During our stay, no one spoke any English and my boyfriend and I know hardly any French or Arabic, but our hosts were always smiling and willing to help.

Room Tip: The red room is the Rubis Room. Its in the corner which means less noisy, but there are no windows...

We spent 3 nights at this riad, then came back for another night before our flight home.

The location is good - an easy 15 minute walk to the main square through the souks. The bedrooms are comfortable, and beautifully located around a central courtyard which is a welcome respite from the madness of the Marrakesh Medina. The breakfast varied every day, sometimes we got morrocan pancakes and sometimes cake, but always with fresh morrocan bread and jam, juice and coffee. We would definitely come back here if we were staying in Marrakesh again.

One final point - If coming straight from the airport, make sure your taxi driver know's where he's going, or book a pickup with the Riad - its down a few alleyways that you'd never find on your own!

A magic place to stay, in the centre of Medina, very very close to the souk, 15 minutes walking to La Place (if you don't get lost!). The dinner is good but expensive. You can have a fantastic Hammam in a Riad of the same owner, not far from there. The transport from and to the airport is too expensive!

As true Europeans and travelers without experience in Africa, we were shocked about the chaos in the streets around the hotel - it was true cultural chock. But when we entered the hotel riad, it was unbelivable peace and harmony, with warm, friendly staff and romantic atmosphere. We felt that we were part of Morocco in the hotel.

Beautiful old Riad in the medina and a short stroll to the Place. Decor is very Moroccan and not pretentious.
Wonderful room and facilities, especially for the price. Excellent staff and service. A selection of scrumptuos home cooked breads and beverages each breakfast. Would definitley stay here again and recommend to everyone.

Off the beaten track; but worth the walk to the place El Fna....good service and breakfasts; friendly and helpful....you;ll need help in finding it but worth the hassle...near a grand mosque!
