“Down to earth Riad in the Medina”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2012

We had a very relaxing stay at Riad Medea for four nights, the room was cool and nice and airy to make it pleasent to sleep, The staff were excellent, and the breakfast was always on time and well presented, The bathroom was sparse of luxuries, but everything you needed (hot water, fresh towels and bottled water to clean your teeth) were supplied. It is probably 3star in amenities but certainly 5 star in relaxation, quietness and solitude(we were the only occupants of the Riad) and it is close to the local produce markets to obtain enough food for a 50mad dinner to have on the rooftop patio watching the sunset. The 'guard' of the Riad ("Fetta") who has limited english was always on hand and would organise bookings for restaurants, taxis and Driver/guide for day trips to new city/Atlas mountains or where ever you wanted to visit. This was an excellent find for us, we weren't expecting much but we were more than satisfied - only one downside which unless you have soundproof room is the 4.30am call to prayer which would be the case all over Marrakesh.

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor with 3 steps to plunge pool, never had a problem with heat even though t...

“All style and no substance”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2011

All in all, a very bad experience. Maybe because, we had stayed in better places in Morocco at half the price. Finding the place is not easy if the Rue el Gza approach (suggested by Google maps) is taken. . Some of the things we faced 1. Pool with no water : Reason - because its cold in December, but should have been specified when we booked. 2. At the room called Orphee, practicality takes a second seat. First, the Orphee room is hardly what you would call bright even post noon. 3. Second, the bathroom and toilets are covered by high curtains which gets irritating by the second day. 4. a rude awakening every morning at 5am thanks to a couple of Roosters.Cant blame the roosters but what about sound-proofing advertised on the web 5. Leaking geyser not fixed and the geyser sits right on top of the wc . Breakfast was ok but half as good as other places in Morocco. All in all, I would give it a wide berth when I go next.

“Could be difficult to find but calm, stylish and very friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2010

The Bing map link on trip advisor is wrong - Google maps are better but still not clear..
The Riad is about 10 minutes walk inside the Medina walls from the NW gates, and about 20 minutes walk to the main Djeema el Fna square in the middle of the Medina. Finding the square from the Riad is OKish but finding your way back is difficult - lots of forks and dead ends and not many land marks visible from the covered souks. Take a compass or GPS and a good map (although there aren't many street name signs and those there are, are likely to be called something else on the map). Taxis can only get to about 100m from the Riad - the biggest landmark is the Sid Ben Slimane mosque but the Riad is about 30m SW of the mosque on the far side from Rue Sidi Ben Slimane where the main entrance is.
Taxi from the airport should take about 20 minutes and we paid 200Drms - which we were assured was the standard tarrif - but we only paid 80 to get from the Riad to the airport 3 days later.
If the Taxi drops you outside the Ecole Primaire Ahmed Ennou, then facing the wall of the schoolgo to your right, take the first left and follow the zig-zag alleyway to your first right again an the Riad is the first door on the right - there is a bell high-up on the right of the door. You will think you are disappearing down a rabbit warren to find it but the Riad courtyard is a gem.

“Nice decor and comfortable rooms, friendly service, difficult to find, lacks amenities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2010

My wife and I stayed at Riad Medea for 3 nights, the Raid was very nicely refurbished and decorated as advertised. The room (Double McBeth) and bathroom were excellent. The location in the back roads of the Medina was hard to find and was easy to get lost. The Raid staff were very helpful and friendly. The swimming pool had no water in it, the TV didn't work and there was no restaurant on the premisis as listed under amenities. The breakfast was good but not special, it consisted of fresh orange juice, toast, cake and coffee.
