“Perfect Hosts of brilliant riad”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, Françoise & Bernard could not have been more hospitable hosts. Initially we contacted the Riad by email to confirm methods of payment and straight away we were met with straightforward and pleasant cooperation. Bernard even emailed a photo of himself to spot him at the airport - luckily as there were about 200 folk waiting to collect arrivals! Riad Aragan provided a tranquil haven that you would never believe lies hidden within the mad maze of the Medina, it was a pleasure to retire there after each day of dodging motorbikes and haggling in the souks. Shortly after arriving and relaxing with tea, Françoise accompanied us on the 5 minute walk to the main square (Djemaa el Fna) to ensure we knew our way. When we got there she bid us adieu and left us to begin discovering the Medina for ourselves.

The Riad itself has comfortable large decorative Moroccan en suite rooms, a communal open air atrium with a dipping pool and TV lounge, and a roof terrace with sun loungers and a raised shaded hideaway. The breakfasts are brilliant, with goods being baked especially everyday. The two lovely ladies that make our beds and breakfasts everyday are ever at the ready to serve you. If you find yourself missing a swimming pool, we can recommend paying 200dh per person (approx £16 each for all day access) to use the excellent facilities at the 5 star Hotel, Les Jardins De La Koutoubia,‎ located right outside Djemaa el Fna.

Françoise was always at the ready to answer any questions we had about any aspect of Marrakech (without feeling like we were hounding her too much!). She gave us tips on what to expect to pay for certain items in the souks or for taxis, helped book our camel excursion and advised on good Hammams.

Françoise & Bernard make this Riad what it is, a warm and friendly retreat. You will not go wrong by choosing to stay here.

We stayed at Riad Argan for 4 nights in early June. We selected it after reading the reviews of Riad Argan and many of the other riads. Riad Argan really did match up to the reviews. Bernard and Francoise were very welcoming and helpful as were the outstanding staff.
Riad Argan is situated a short walk from Jemaa El Fna and all the other sites. Marrakesh is a fabulous place to visit with the square at night a fantastic experience. I would recommend anyone visiting to stay in a riad (Argan!) in the Medina rather than a hotel outside as the hustle and bustle of the Medina is key to experiencing Marrakesh.

Thank you to all the Tripadvisorians who recommended Riad Argan! My husband and I stayed for three days this past weekend and were extremely pleased with the beauty of the riad, the service, the breakfast and the location, just steps from the Medina. Francoise And Bernard were lovely hosts and their recommendations were perfect, including dinner at Tobsil and drinks on the roof of the bar by the big tree. We loved the total sensory overload of the Medina and the calm beauty of Riad Argan was the perfect foil.

I stayed a few days in Riad Argan and can confirm that all the good things you probably already read about it are true.

It is hard to imagine that there could be more friendly and helpful hosts than Francoise and Bernard. The location is perfect: Just a few steps from “la place” (the square Djema El Fna), just 100 metres away you will find a taxi. It really is a “havre de paix” in the bustling medina. The interior of the Riad is very tasteful decorated without any “oriental kitsch”. Everything is well cared for and perfectly clean thanks to the attention of the two young ladies (sorry that I forgot the names). WLAN is working fine, you can make VOIP (or Skype) calls without any problems.

The cooking is worth a very special mention. You will be hard pressed to find a better dinner in Marrakech, let alone in such a peaceful surrounding.

All in all: Highly recommended.

I almost didn't book the Riad Argan because I was worried about the fine print that says that you have to pay via bank transfer ahead of time. I emailed with Bernard, however, we worked it out, and I booked a room for two nights. Boy, am I glad I did.

First of all, I'm not sure I've ever met friendlier people in my life. Bernard is adorable, and Francoise is warm and gracious. They are competent and talkative and put you right at ease. Bernard picked us up after a long trip from the desert via bus, grand taxi, and petit taxi. He instantly made us feel welcome and relaxed, and took us up to our (BEAUTIFUL!!!!!) room, then came back minutes later with cookies and fruit and mint tea. Francoise took us the next morning to the main square, which is about a 5-10 minute walk away--it's a little bit of a walk, but very nice to be a little sheltered in a less touristy part of the medina. She oriented us and gave us advice on what to see, where to shop, and where to eat.

We wanted to go to a hammam, so Francoise told the two lovely girls who do the day-to-day work in the hotel...and they took us, themselves. I cannot say enough good things about these two girls--they were friendly and so, so helpful. It was a great experience!

And, lastly, the basics: the riad is gorgeous: it's decorated with incredible attention to detail and a very good eye for design. It's a wonderful place to stay even if you never leave the building! The breakfast (included) was very good, and while we never had dinner there, we could smell what they cooked for someone else and were impressed.

The only suggestion I might make would be to have a fountain or something to mask a bit of the interior noise. You won't hear any exterior/street noise, but all riads are built around a central courtyard, so it can get kind of echo-y on the inside.

All in all, this place was absolutely fantastic.

We found Riad Argan on Trip Advisor as it is in the top 10 riads in Marrakesh as rated by the guests. We landed at the airport and we were greeted by Bernard, the owner of Riad Argan and another driver they whisked us into the Medina and to our riad. After checking in to our very well appointed rooms with extremely comfortable beds, Bernard kindly took us to a foreign exchange counter and then on to the main square showing us where we were and generally settling us down. He is the perfect riad host !
The following day he went out of his way to show us other points of interest before we set out on our own.
One of the highlights of our stay was a home-cooked meal in the riad which was a delicious Tajine of lemon chicken. Breakfasts on the terrace were also very pleasant.
Bernard went out of his way to ensure that our stay was perfect . He even took my 19 year old son on the back of his scooter to show him where we might buy a really good Morrocan carpet !
We will definitely recommend Riad Argan to all our friends. As I am sure Bernard would want me to write an honest review ,I can only make one small criticism..... The shower in our room needs to be repaired as the shower head was not emitting a constant and even spray ! Merci Bernard !

From being picked up from the Airport by Bernard to the time we left 4 days later we recieved the best service from the staff at Riad Argan. After enjoying mint tea on arrival we were taken by Francoise and shown how to get to the Jemma al Fnaa square, which was only a 2 minute walk away. The Riad provides a personal service to those who stay there and nothing is too much to ask. Francoise even took us to get curtains made. We would recommend eating at the Riad as we did after a long day trip which was organised by the Riad. Once you have found this Riad on Trip Advisor I would recommend booking it as you will not get any better!!!
