“Lovely property but make sure you get met on arrival at the medina”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We stayed at Riad Chi Chi in late October and when the taxi driver rang from the train station to get directions we wrongly assumed he was saying we would be arriving shortly. There was a guy waiting near where the taxi dropped us off and he took us down the rather daunting alleys to Riad Chi Chi - we wouldnt have gone down the last alley except there was a sign Riad Chi Chi. The baggage guy then demanded 300 MAD which was about 10 times the amount - he was very intimidating and by the time the Riad door was opened we had paid. The Riad building is lovely but as we had stayed at another nearer the main square found this one to be out of the way of the restaurants on the square and more difficult to access. Yvonne was there on our first night to guide us to a restaurant she did offer to come and collect us but we found out way back with the help of GPS.

Room Tip: We have Ivory and Plum and both were lovely.

We appreciate any feedback we receive as a way of improving our service.

We always strongly recommend to our clients that we arrange the transfer service to ensure a stress-free arrival. In this case, the clients decided to make their own way to the riad. Unfortunately, the clients did not mention the incident with the porter until much later. Our manager would otherwise have gone after him instantly to retrieve the money.

The reason we recommend that clients use our transfer service is because our taxi driver knows the way and he will arrange a porter at the drop-off point, who will only charge 20dh. We always mention in our confirmation e-mails to pay max 20 dh to the porter. We can only offer and advise. At the end of the day, it is the guest's personal choice whether to use our transfer service or make their own way to the riad.

The covered walkway to the Riad is typical of the streets in the Medina, which have remained the same for hundreds of years. It is the true Marrakech and for most people this is the charm of staying in the Medina. We give lots of information and tips on our website to give clients an idea of what to expect before their trip.

We are pleased that, despite their unfortunate experience with the porter, the clients liked Riad Chi-Chi.

We stayed at Riad Chi Chi for 4 nights in September and had a wonderfull time. The moment you step through the door it's an oasis of calm compared to the bustle of the Medina. We had the Aubergine room on the second floor which was tastefully decorated with a view down to the courtyard. The temparature was very hot when we were there and the plunge pool in the courtyard was so nice for a dip after a morning sight seeing. There is also a roof terrace for sunbathing and relaxing with a drink. A very special thankyou to Yvonne and Salah for making our stay so relaxing, they were always on hand to answer our questions we had and Salah even came out to show us the way back to the Riad at night. I can't recommend Riad Chi Chi enough you will enjoy your stay here.

Just got back from a week in Marrakech having stayed at Riad Chi Chi, well what can I say they made our 4 days lovely! Beryl the owner was a delight and nothing was too much trouble she was always on hand to help us when we got lost in the medina and also helped us find a perfect local restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Two out of the four nights we spent in the Riad as the food was excellent, well the best we experienced in Marrakech!! We had a romantic table by candlelight for two out of the rain which I must say added to a real romantic setting which Beryl arranged and we loved it!! I must say having travelled to another hotel after this in the Atlas Mountains it didn't compare on any level with the service, food or the lovely feel this place has, it really was 10 out of 10. I was sad to leave as it felt we were leaving family and I hope when you visit this Riad you meet the charming Beryl!!

Room Tip: We stayed in The Plum room which was lovely and great value for money but the rooms on the next floo...

A lovely bolthole away from the hustle of the Medina with a friendly greeting from Yvonne the manager, helpful staff and delicious meals. We too were met at the airport as promised and paid the agreed fare to the taxi driver and to the porter who saw us along the last bit (though he tried to get more out of us!). Nice to cool down in the plunge pool and warm up again on the roof terrace. Useful info from Yvonne about places to see, in particular we enjoyed the Photography Museum and the "Jardin Majorelle", Yves St Laurent's garden in the Ville Nouvelle. You need to be aware that Chi Chi is located in very much the working end of the Medina - the posher touristy nick-nacks are further in towards the Djema el F'Na.

I have read the last 5 - 6 reviews and couldn't agree more with all the write ups below. In particular I want to say how much I endorse how friendly and helpful the staff were, from Yvonne the manager with all her top tips on where to go and a briefing on the medina and new town with the aid of a map; to Salleh taking and collecting us from our restaurant to prevent us getting lost; to Kahdijeh [sic?] taking me shopping to help me get a good price in the souks, to Nadia keeping everything so spic and span. Everyone went beyond the call of duty and it was just lovely to meet such kind people who really sincerely do care about your enjoyment and the comfort of your stay. Thank you everyone at Chi Chi!

Room Tip: We were in Ivory - I got a glimpse in the smaller plum and I would think the larger is worth the mon...

I'd spent quite a while researching riads for my holiday to Marrakech and couldn't have been happier to end up staying at Riad Chi-Chi.

The British Riad Manager, Yvonne, lives on-site and was superb at replying very quickly and thoroughly to my numerous emails before my stay which made planning my, relatively, long trip a lot easier. Yvonne also made a number of excellent reccomendations of what to do, see and where to eat when i arrived.

I'd arranged an airport transfer via the hotel (currently 150dh) and this was fine even though my flight was delayed and immigration took ages to clear.

The decor of the riad is simple, clean and stylish, mostly in white, and everything is of good quality. There's a roof terrace with some sunloungers, a central courtyard for breakfast and a seating area on the 1st floor with sofas. WiFi works in communal areas and is reliable. It's quieter then I thought it would be given its centrql Medina location. I was, kindly, also able to use the riad's own PC when it was free too.

I stayed in a spacious double room, on the 1st floor, called Ivory, for several nights. The room was great - lovely soft towels, quality white bedlinen and good mattress, very good aircon with a sleep function so you don't wake up too cold in the night, good pressure from the shower and more than enough plug sockets.

If you are staying anywhere in the Medina, or; for that matter anywhere in Morocco (!), then it is worth remembering that mosques do "call to prayer" at sunrise (and at 4 other times during the day) so, as a light sleeper, I opted for earplugs after the first night. Fine after that...

Breakfast is served over a decent timeframe and sets you up nicely til lunch. It's likely that you'll be served your breakfast by Salleh, the riad's charming night guardian. Salleh is exceptionally kind hearted and offered (and did immediately - thank you Salleh!) to come to my rescue a couple of times when I forgot how to get back at night.

It's exactly that sort of superb, caring and personal touch that means I wouldn't consider going anywhere else if i returned to Marrakech.

Room Tip: Ivory was fine for a mutiple night stay and was on 1st floor.

We stayed here for 4 nights in August. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We'd arranged in advance with the Riad for a taxi to collect us from the airport, which it did. Someone from the Riad then met us at the car and took us to the Riad- maybe a minutes walk (the streets in Marrakech are small and cars can't drive down many of them).

Throughout the stay staff were on hand to give advice about where to go, what to do etc. and most importantly, how to get there.

The room was clean and a good size. There was a good air conditioning unit in the room which cooled it (much needed when its 40 degrees outside!). We were on the ground floor - out onto the courtyard- but didn't have any problem with noise etc- it was very quiet.

Breakfast was served each morning in the courtyard- very promptly and very well made. There is a roof-top with sunbeds and also a shaded area which was good to sit and relax in late evening. You get a good view across the city, and its great to sit and listen to the call to prayer from the various surrounding mosques.

We had a mobile phone from the Riad in case we got lost- but thankfully didn't need it.

We also arranged an excursion to the Atlas mountains- and were taken to the taxi by a member of staff at the Riad which saved us getting lost.

Overall the stay was calm, relaxing, and the staff were friendly and helpful. We'd recommend this Riad to others.
