“words cannot express ......fabulous comes close!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

we have just spent a fantastic week in Marrakech in this gorgeous little haven in the Medina and i have nothing but great things to say about it.Hidden down a charming little alleyway, behind an unassuming door lies a beautiful 'home away from home',where the staff and atmosphere await to make one's stay truly memorable!!! The decor maintains it's Moroccan charm with a modern twist which is nothing short of Adorable, the small pool in the covered courtyard, with a lounge area around it oozes style and tranquility, the staff are so helpful and full of smiles, nothing is too much trouble to please their residents...each room is different, tho i know we managed to get the most beautiful suite, very spacious with an amazing bath in the room...simply exquisite!!!!every detail is attended to.a gorgeous place to relax after a busy day in the Souks....a welcome peaceful hideaway after an excursion into the desert ( highly recommended!!)Amine the manager is constantly available to help with discovering Marrakech, recommendations for dining out and excursions...nothing is too much trouble here....we were made to feel so very welcome.the location is fantastic..just a stones throw away from the amazing labyrinth of the souk markets, with the main square about 15/20 mins away....when u don't get lost in the Souks!!! I participated in a cooking course with the Riad's cook....fantastic to discover a few secrets about the Moroccan cuisine...and the Tagine was possibly the BEST that we ate in Marrakech...made with love and attention!!! Residents can dine in the Riad Utopia( giving prior notice that day as everything is made to order on the day...well worth it!!) the Spa is small ,but perfectly formed and the Hammam black soap scrub and massage is a divine experience....People!! do not leave Marrakech without ridding yourselves of all that dead skin you are carrying about!!!!! I've never felt so 'squeaky clean' in all my life!!!!! We were a family travelling with our 7year old daughter, i noticed that there weren't many tourists with kids, and b4 going there, i could understand the caution behind this, however,my fears were unfounded as it was a truly safe place and the people of Marrakech are lovely,we never felt afraid or threatened at any time of the day...quite the opposite...our daughter adored the whole experience of seeing and living a completely different culture to our own,she enjoyed the food, haggled in the markets, was inquisitive to all the new things that she saw, danced her way around the Majorelle gardens..and was nothing short of adored by these people.......well, she is a blonde,blue-eyed gorgeous gal..it may have helped!!!!..she especially enjoyed her time in the Riad Utopia, and felt completely at home there...we all did,you will not be disappointed with this choice...and it also employs THE MOST HANDSOME MEN IN MARRAKECH!!!Amine and Youssef...and all the lovely staff...we adore you and dearly hope to see you again some day...thank you all for making our stay so very special...keep up the good work...you are an absolute credit to the city that is..Marvellous Marrakech........

One can easily see from the quantity and quality of reviews that this is a great place to stay in Marrakech. Other than being told there were no rooms upon arrival, we were later given the executive suite for the double price :), this place was Amazing. Beautiful interior and terrace. Close enough to the hot spots but far enough to still be quiet and peaceful. This is a great Riad for Couples or anyone looking for a quiet, upscale, personal stay.

Stayed here with my best buddy for a weekend exploring Marrakech. It was fabulous. Claudine, the lady who runs the riad was so helpful. The location is perfect - easy to get everywhere but away from the madness. It is beautiful. Claudine has little oil essence burners in the riad so everywhere smells divine. Loved it!!!!! Will go there again. We also tried the hamman and massage. Blissful. Definitely 5 stars.

We booked Riad Utopia at the last minute for two nights and got an 'Executive Suite' which is apparently the most expensive/nicest room they have. In pictures it looked pretty impressive, but the reality when we arrived was a little bit tacky with fake chandeliers and white plastic furniture. However it was very clean, and we had a balcony and a massive TV and air con which was very nice. It was also very quiet which was a pleasant surprise as i know a lot of other riads can be noisy due to their location.

The week before we arrived they emailed us asking us if we would like a transer from the airport which we said we did. However when we arrived in Marrakech late on a Sunday evening there was nobody there waiting for us and when we called them from the airport they said they hadn't sent anybody. Which was annoying as they had told us that the riad was quite tricky to find. So we got into a cab outside of the airport which overcharged us and then dropped us in the wrong place. We then had to pay a local boy to take us to the riad which involved walking with suitcases through the souks for 20 minutes down back alleys etc. We were luckier than others though - another couple who arrived the same night and had booked a room in advance, arrived to be told they were actually fully booked and that they'd have to find somewhere else to stay for the night.

On arrival we were told that their kitchen was shut so we had to head out to try and find somewhere for dinner. The nice guy on the desk recommended somewhere and told us to get a taxi which would take us the 20 minute journey. So we ended up paying for another taxi for what turned out to be a 1 minute cab ride which we could have easily walked in five minutes. On returning to the hotel that night we discovered that the toilet in our room was broken.

The next morning we had breakfast and it was very nice, cakes and breads and jams and honey and coffee. On leaving the riad we mentioned that the toilet was broken. The door on our room could also be opened without a key - the lock was totally inadequate. All you had to do was open it normally and it would open even if locked. Not particularly safe.

After a day spent wandering around Marrakech we got back and thankfully they'd fixed our toilet. However the workman had left all his rubbish in our dustbin and the room had half heartedly been cleaned.

The guy on the front desk was lovely and really helpful (he worked from 6pm until 10am the next day each day). And the central courtyard is very nice as is the rooftop where you can sunbathe/relax/have a beer. But there were quite a few issues for somewhere that was at the more expensive end - £120 a night.

Room Tip: We were in a new bit of the building which had windows facing outwards onto the street. the old part...

Riad Utopia - where do you start?
After reading the various reviews, we decided to book an executive suite in this little Riad as it was my boyfriend's birthday so we decided to treat ourselves to a mini-break in Marrakech.
We were picked up at the airport (return cost is €14 per person) and dropped off at a square which is 5-8 mins walk from the Riad (as the Riad is in the Medina, you can't get a taxi to drop you off at the entrance by you have to walk through the little alleys). At the square where we were dropped off, we were met by a guy sent by the Riad to help with the suitcases as well, which was really nice of them.
When we got there, we were offered mint tea (which was awesome) and waiting to get checked in. Our room was way below our expectations - although it was supposed to be the most expensive room in the establishment, it was on the ground floor right next to the kitchen. The bathroom's window opened INSIDE the kitchen/restaurant (and I am not joking!!) which meant that there was constant noise coming from the kitchen pretty much all day. The bathroom smelt like mould but otherwise the room was very clean. The safe inside the wardrobe was just a joke - so small that it could pretty much hold just your passport and some cash but it was not even screwed to the wall - so someone could just walk away with the whole thing.
As far as the staff is concerned, the guy that stays at the reception overnight as well as the guy at the front desk during the day ( I think is the owner) were both very friendly and really did their best to make us feel at home. However, I wish I could say the same about the lady at the front desk who was probably the most unfriendly/ unhelpful/ rude person I have ever come across in a hotel/B&B setting. When I asked whether there was a hairdryer I could borrow as there wasn't one in the room, she got really annoyed and said something along the lines of "some guests don't realise that this is a house and not a hotel"!!!!!, to which I didn't reply anything as it sounded like a ridiculous argument. Anyway, she told me to go back to my room and she would see whether she could trace a hairdryer down. Some girl who works there dropped it off a bit later on, asking that we returned within an hour if possible which we did.
Anyhow, a bit later on, I asked her whether we could have dinner at the hotel that night (was about 7pm) and she just replied "today NO". Apparently as my boyfriend confirmed with her the next morning, the cook was on leave the previous day and we couldn't have dinner as we should have given advance notice although we were never told that this was the case. When my boyfriend asked why weren't told that this was the case when we checked in, she replied that it is all written in the book that was in the room and that we should have read it. Guess what - we looked for it and THERE WAS NO BOOK IN THE ROOM..!! In case management reads this, that was room No1.
The place where the Riad was did not feel safe at all, especially at night - they stole a poor lady's handbag a few meters away from us however when we asked the guy at the reception whether the area was safe for us to be wandering around on our own he said - yes sure!! no problem!!
Overall, I would not stay there again - they made the whole experience miserable and stressful for no reason, as for value for money - spend your money somewhere else.. I am sure that there are lots of beautiful places in Marrakech to stay without all this hassle.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor rooms - way too much noise

We've had a superb stay at Riad Utopia. It was hard to leave the Riad and Marrakech after 6 days.
The reservation process was easy, we did it directly on the Riad's website. It enabled us to get a free Hammam and massage.
As proposed by the Riad's manager we were picked up directly at the airport for a return cost of 14Euros per person. I recommend it since the location isn't the easiest to find. Check-in was easy, no hassle; Moroccan tea offered.
But the nice surprise was to be upgraded in one of their newest rooms, since the Riad is being extended. The room was really nice and spacey. Nice decoration, clean, isolated from any noise and with two balconies. It was really a nice gesture from them.
The personnel is very kind, polite and attentive, the manager has the right eye for every details; you really feel pampered. The place always felt very quite and ideal for relaxation.
Free Internet access, very nice roof top terrace, the breakfast was also very nice; they manage to give a different selection of breakfast each different day.
The location is also convenient: you have to walk about 200 meters to reach the souk, and Jama El Fnaa Plaza is about 10-15 mins walk through the souks.
The only downside in the situation is that when you return to the Riad after 22.00 PM it can feel a bit unsafe for a woman or a small group of women. Nevertheless a taxi is always cheap in Marrakech.
I definitely recommend this nice Riad. We both LOVED the place. The Spa/massage is also something to be tried.

Me and my boyfriend LOVED our stay at Riad Utopia, the rooms were lovely, HUGE bathroom, the staff were very friendly (especially the guy that served breakfast and worked at night), yummy breakfast, AMAZING dinner (the best we had whilst in Marrakesh by far).
The whole Riad is very pretty and is decorated very nicely, everywhere is lit up with candles at night and looks lovely!
On arrival a member of staff who I presume was the manager brought us mint tea, biscuits and a map and sat down with us to point out places of interest on the map which was very helpful.

The Riad was a little too far away from Jemaa el Fna for our liking! Some other reviews say 10 minutes, I'm not sure why, as it takes 20-30 minutes to walk. We tried walking a couple of different routes but it still takes this long.

Watch out for the guys that hang around the car park where taxis drop you of for the Riad, especially if you have just arrived from the airport, they will walk you to the Riad door (even if you say you know where you are going!) and then want paying for this! We told the guy we didn't need any help but when he wouldn't leave us, my boyfriend handed over about 5 euro for this "service" but the guy insisted that we pay him 30 euro!!! ..we weren't sure how safe the area was so had to pay this, but stand your ground and say no the max you should pay for this is 20-30 Dirham (2-3 euro)! ...this isn't any fault of Riad Utopia just thought I would point it out so that future guests can learn from our mistakes! :)
