“A great place to say to experience real Marrakech.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

We stayed at Riad Hizard for a week in June. The weather was very hot so we was glad of the plunge pool on the roof terrace. Our holiday didn't get off to a great start as the taxi which was booked through Isabelle was not at the airport to collect us. Even agreeing the fare at the airport the cab driver still ripped us off when he dropped us off. The cars can only go so far and then you have a 10min walk to the Riad. It is quite intimidating at first, as you walk down alleyways. Once inside the Riad, it is so tranquil and somewhere to purely relax. Isabelle is really lovely and so are her staff as they work so hard especially Sana, who would always bring us mint tea in the afternoon.we stayed in the Berber suite and it was really comfy with crisp white bed linen. The breakfast is plentiful and lasted my husband and I all day. It is about 10-15 min walk to the main square and souks. Yes you do get hassled walking through the souks, but I used to say 'I've got one thank you' and this seemed to keep the traders away. We found plenty to do in the week, there are some lovely parks to sit back and relax in. We also took the city bus tour as we needed to go to the station and wanted to visit the marjorelle gardens which is a must. After our week in Marrakech we travelled by a Supratour bus to Agadir, which only cost about £10 each. The journey time is about 3hrs with 1 stop. Make sure you buy your tickets in advance and ask that you sit together. My husband and I did not and were split up. Isabelle arranged our taxi to the bus station. It is also very cheap to eat and drink in Morrocco. I would definitely recommend the Riad Hizard as the location is excellent.

To sum it up an amazing experience for a first timer in this vibrant city.We arrived around ten in the morning and were advised the room would not be ready until 1pm which was normal. The head of staff sat us down and gave us a map and a cup of coffee, she was so polite despite the language barrier(will be taking a handbook with me next time). This gave us a chance to drop our stuff and explore the labyrinth of souks with the ultimate goal of finding the Jemaa el Fna square.Almost instantly fell in love with the city.We came back to a beautiful room with the most impressive bathroom/spa and it really gave me a taster for Morocco.I have to say if you are looking for an authentic experience this place will not disappoint. My favourite aspect of the Riad Hizad was the roof top terrace. This allowed me as a sun worshipper to get some much needed rays after a trip through the souks to cool off.The pool is so refreshing and peaceful and depending on the hour you are on the roof you may catch the afternoon pray from the abundance of minarets in the area which I found extremely soothing.Lastly breakfast was another highlight offering traditional Moroccan breads, honeys and pancakes with the most delicious fresh orange juice and coffee.Overall the staff were lovely and due to the location of the Riad a perfect HQ to explore one of my favourite cities in the world.Highly recommended, would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: We booked the Framboise suite, but as a top end Riad all of the rooms had their own magic.

We have recently returned from a two night stay at Riad Hizad and the attitude of the person in charge during our stay ruined our first visit to Marrakech. The owner who was absent during our stay needs to address this issue.
We arrived at the Riad hot, tired and late having waited for over 90 minutes to get through passport control. We had booked dinner on our first night and on arrival instead of being greeted with a welcoming smile or hand shake, we were greeted with this person telling us we were late and expecting us to put our bags down and eat dinner immediately. We asked for 30 minutes to freshen up, but this request was greeted with a head shake and sneer, we eventually negotiated 10 minutes to freshen up before dinner would be served. This was not a good start but things got a whole lot worse. The next morning we asked for a quote for a taxi transfer to Imlil in the High Atlas. She and this Riad quoted us 80 Euros which we thought sounded a bit high having done some research before we arrived. We asked her if this was the average price and she said yes, this is the average fare to Imlil. We knew that if you booked through the Riad you paid a little more for the convenience of being taken to the taxi rather than carrying your bags across the square so we decided to go ahead. However we were not just paying a little more we were being totally ripped off, and lied to about the price. She also told us on the day we were leaving that we had to make our own way with our luggage to the square to meet the taxi rather than having the convenience of being met at the Riad and taken to the taxi. (We later found out that the fare to Imlil should be about 35 Euros)

She stole from our breakfast table the tip intended for the very nice waitress who served us breakfast during our stay.

My husband asked for assistance to book train tickets to Fez, she said that she would book him a taxi to go to the station through the Riad and when he went downstairs at the agreed time, she said he would not be met and taken to the taxi but that he had to make his own way to the square to find the taxi driver. Given that there are many taxis in the square this was not straightforward and again not helpful.

While my husband was at the train station I was packing the bags and taking them downstairs one at a time. I was leaving the room with the last bag at 12.05pm, five minutes late. She met me outside the door, snatched the key from my hand and stormed off, she didn't offer to help with the luggage, she just turned and with a comment I didn't catch walked off.

She did not give us a key to our room (Garden Suite), she said that they don't give room keys just front door keys. On returning to our room on two occasions staff had been inside as the air conditioning was turned off when I had accidentally left it on.

Given our experience at Riad Hizad, if you're unlucky to stay when the owner is absent be prepared to be ripped of and treated with hostility and rudeness.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Garden Suite, the room and bathroom are big and you have a private small balcony, h...

The Riad Hizad is a superb base - right in the middle of the Medina and close to the souks, a short walk from the Jemaa el Fna. It's rather larger than most riads and is down a quiet, narrow alley close behind a large (clearly labelled) door on the left side. The door opens to expose a tranquil oasis in the middle of the old town. The riad was originally refurbished and decorated by Isabelle, the present French host, to be her own house and it still feels as if you're a guest in her home rather than anonymously passing through a hotel.

There are only 4 guest rooms, we stayed in the Framboise suite which is very large and, surprisingly, raspberry coloured - the other rooms (which we sneaked a peak into) were also large but I don't think they were suites. All are beautifully decorated and well equipped. They open out onto the central courtyard where there are various lounge areas. The main area is on the roof, though, where the're a small plunge pool to escape the heat, several sunbeds and a bedouin-styled tented lounge area. The meals are also served here, but I can't agree with a previous reviewer who criticised the food. We had three evening meals here, cooked by the staff, and all were superb - the best food we ate whilst in Marrakech.

To the domestics: The bed was comfortable and the riad is very quiet, except for the early morning calls to prayer, which are of course inevitable in Marrakech, and the birds singing. The whole riad is maintained spotlessly clean, including the rooms.

We'd rarely return to the same place twice, but we would definitely make an exception for the Riad Hizad. Highly recommended, not least because of its owner, Isabelle.

Room Tip: Framboise suite directly opens over the courtyard, one or two of the others open onto it across the...

We spent two nights in this well located Riad in the middle of the medina. Our room, the Garden Suite, was beautifully decorated and with private access and the direct stairs to the roof terrace it could not have been better. Isabelle, the owner, gave us good advice on where to go and shop and the staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely consider going back and do not hesitate to recommend it.

Room Tip: See above. All rooms are individually designed.

I had a pleasant stay, beautiful scenery, nice pool and a quite place but the food is too expensive and not that good. I would rather go the cety than eat there. Except the food, I recommend this place for a comfy w-e where you can tan and escape the city noise
The owenr was nos frendly but the staf was good.

We stayed for 4 nights last week in the Riad Hizad which is hosted by Isabelle. We can absolutely recommend it and would also book again if we would visit Marrkech next time. The Riad is really well situated in the middle of the medina, only a few minutes walk away from the Souk and the place djemaa el fna. Despite the very central location inside the Riad it is very calm and we were able to relax on the sun terasse on the deck every day. The Riad is nicely decorated and Isabelle is a very kind hostess with always good advices.
