“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

Spent 4 nights here.
The rate was good and the location excellent.
The room is a good size and the bed is comfortable.

However, the following aspects are worth considering if you plan to stay here:
1. Carpets in the room look and smell dirty. In general, the hotel does not "feel" clean.
2. The drains in my room stank, despite requesting housekeeping to address the problem.
3. The knob in the bath to switch from spout to shower house fell off in my hand and the bath plug would not release when operating the plug selection.

The staff try their best but the reception was badly under staffed in my opinion-the same people (max 2-mostly one) trying to check guests in, sell drinks from the fridge, like water and also take phone calls.
The breakfast was the same with one poor guy trying to replenish cutlery and crockery and the food. The breakfast is very average continental.

There is no restaurant to speak of -its just a lobby area with a rip off bar!!

Not sure if I would return here-rather pay a few more dollars and enjoy myself more.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are very quiet.

I would agree that some of the reviewers are being quite harsh about this hotel. The hotel, location well place right next door to the rather fabulous-looking Sofitel, is actually rather good for the price we paid after booking through expedia.
Positive points:
- generally friendly, yet discreet staff (borrowed glasses, ice cubes and bottle opener from the bar)
- good location
- has a gym
- spacious bedrooms with fridge, kettle and microwave
- good consistent breakfast (croissants, pain au chocolat, eggs, dates, etc..)

Negative:
- The key card demagnetised almost every time we went back to the room
- The pool is cold, but I bet in the high summer this is probably a good thing
- Some days the staff didnt set out all the sun-bed pillows so you had to ask for one
- Room service food is just an enormous fridge with frozen ready-meals. Drinks are also rather expensive - there is a carrefour 5 minutes down the road.

One trip advice for Marrakech - don't pay over the odds for a guide in the souks - we weren't hassled at all and managed to find our own way.

Room Tip: There are two types of rooms overlooking the pool. One which gets some sun on the balcony, others wh...

I do not understand what the previous reviewers are cribbing about and what are they expecting when they only have to she'll out about 100 USD per night to stay in a four star hotel. To begin with the best part of the hotel is its location, located very close to all the main attractions in Marrakech. The main square is about ten minutes from the hotel and it is also close to a very good Cafe (Cafe Extrablatt) right at its backside. Talking about the room fairly decent with a small but comfortable bed, it has a microwave as well as a tea coffee maker, the shower area is small but manageable but the best part of the room is its interactive television - this would be the best interactive television I have seen even if I compare with various five star hotels. Talking about the services the breakfast spread was small but edible. One of their employees who stood out was Youness at the reception - he checked us into the hotel and was extremely polite and professional during our entire course of trip. Would highly recommend this hotel to people who are looking at a mid budget range (100 to 120 USD) as I consider this as an extremely safe option than a Riad.

Room Tip: Have a room facing the Sofitel it's gives you a good view.

I agree with the 2 previous reviews. I shared the same experiences, but here are my additions;

Negatives;
- told on arrival we demand to pay 99 dirhams tax, there was no mention of this when booking (if so, probably in super-small/invisible print)
- The soft drinks/snacks located in lobby were extortionate, at least £2 per can - better off walking to the small Carrefour supermarket round the corner (5-10mins walk from hotel)
- It says 24/7 room service. The food is frozen, microwaveable dinners, which again are located in a fridge in the lobby
- We wanted proper drinking glasses (not the small disposable cups in the room) which we requested from the bar, only to be told no - they are for the bar only
- To Iron clothes, you need to go to the 4th floor, where there is a room with only 1 ironing board in there
- The receptionist (mainly the women) are moody, not willing to assist
- We went to the bar to get some coffee, only to be told that their coffee machine was not working, so we ended up with a coffee, mixed with chocolate/milky froth (NOT EVEN REAL COFFEE)
- Hotel had no Dirhams to exchange for us
- Air conditioning did not work, just a really loud and annoying
- Balcony was just a small landing outside, where 2 people can barely squeeze through

On the positives;
- Brilliant location, all the amazing bars/clubs/restaurants are no more the 3-5min walk
- Good size pool
- The concierge staff (mainly men) were very very helpful, brilliant service
- Room was clean/spacious, but not immaculate
- Free wi-fi, although slow
- We had an interconnecting room, handy for a group staying together

If you are going for a short weekend, and no frills - then i would recommend, otherwise look elsewhere.

Rooms - are good for two people and not big enough for a family of 4. There is a tv but no English speaking channels apart from bbc news. There is a fridge and a microwave. Also a couch which turns into a bed and bed that pulls out from under the bed. The balcony if you can even call it that is poor.
The bathroom has a bath, shower cubicle and a sink. There are no glasses in the room only paper cups to make tra for one not even two. There is a separate toilet with is handy actually.
The floor in our room had a rubber mat and our friends had carpet.

Reception staff were unfriendly and in my opinion rude. They had no money for us to change up at any time and so we had to go to the Sofitel hotel next door.
The room one day wasn't cleaned and when I complained the cleaner turned up and didn't clean the bathroom properly.
The breakfast area is poor and the bar is poor in terms of tea and coffees.

The location is great near all the excellent hotels, resturants, bars and clubs. For a no frills hotel book it if you want service at least then book into another hotel.

This hotel is a standard Novotel, typically a mid-range hotel, with a modern and somewhat basic design and furnitures. It offers free multimedia (TV, VOD and Internet), and also has a small but underground and garded parking. The free breakfast is not top quality, but edible. There are not much breakfast tables, so be ready for some waiting time as families spend a good amount of time there, obviously making reserves of free meal for the whole day .....

The major problem lies with the room description the hotel provides on the Accor website. It is supposed to be a "suite" with"1 double and 2 single beds". For the suite, it is in fact a large room, nothing more. For the bedding, there is in fact only 1 REAL bed: the double one. The two other beds are what other honests hotels would describe as "sofa-bed" or "roll away bed". One extra single bed is a mattress on the ground (yes, on the ground !). The other one is the seating bottom of the sofa, that has no full lenght/width for a bed. If you want to use these as a "bed", it will have to be done by housekeeping (sheets, duvet, pillows), proof that it is not really intended to serve as a bed.

In other words, the room description is quite dishonnest. This is not a suite : no multiple rooms. There is only one real bed : although management claims that mattresses are all of the same quality, I hold that the piece of furniture an hotel calls "bed" has to be something else than a mattress on the ground !

If you are unhappy with this, management bluntly replies that "this is the concept of Novotel Suites " and that the stamp-size picture of the room clearly shows everything. Astonishing !

If you want to stay in the Hivernage for a luxurury hotel, this is not the one to choose. And if you want something more typical for the same price, they are lots of Riads much better than this.

We were slightly worried about staying at the Novotel Suites because of some of the poor reviews on TripAdvisor but found the hotel was a lot better than expected.
The Hotel had arranged for us ( group of three couples) to have three rooms adjacent to each other and all were similar. Two had a balcony and unfortunately we got the short straw without a balcony.
The rooms were very large and well arranged. The slightly unusual arrangement with the toilet separate from the Bathroom was a bonus, and the room was of a good size. There was a large, comfy, double bed, and a separate single bed against the wall which proved very handy for our suitcases. There were two chairs and a curved table that made a good sitting area.
The TV was on its own base and could be wheeled around so you could either see it in bed, or from the sitting area. The free videos on demand were a bonus whilst the tv also had 50 channels: however these were very international! The TV also could be used for internet access, and had a separate keyboard/mouse pad. It was one of the best computers we had seen in a hotel room, although it struggled with the BA.com page due the graphics. Other pages loaded easily and quickly. The Wifi also worked well throughout most of the hotel.
Breakfast was reasonable, although as others have mentioned there are not quite enough tables unless you go outside, which is a bit chilly this time of year. However we only had to wait a couple of minutes before empty tables appeared inside.
You have to fill in a form at Check in which is a bit of a pain, but presumably this is the same for all the Marrakech hotels.
We traveled around very easily as a group of 6 using the horse drawn Caliches , and always paid 100Dirhams (8GBP) for a trip to town centre etc. The drivers would sometimes ask for more, but simply by walking away we would get the 100 rate. This may be more than the published rates, but we felt it was great value for an enjoyable ride.
The hotel was not perfect, but we felt it was very good value for money, and we had no complaints.
