“Fantastic location, uninspiring breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

After reading a host of great reviews and finding a reasonable room rate for the Novotel I stayed here for 4 nights.

Location is good, a short walk to the Medina, in a new district of Marrakech surrounded by luxury hotels, casinos, nightclubs, restaurants and bars there is plenty around you at night if you don't fancy venturing to djemaa el fna for some street food.

When we checked in the receptionist was very friendly, giving us info on what Marrakech had to offer and where to eat that night. In the morning a different receptionist was less so, very ignorant and rude, unhelpful too. This seems to be a theme at this hotel as only one receptionist out of the 4 or so that work there was friendly.

The room is spacious and finished to a good standard but the air con was totally ineffective and we were in Marrakech during a heatwave so the temperature was in the room was unbearable.

The hotel 'gym' flatters to deceive in the photos, in reality its a broom cupboard with a treadmill in it.

Breakfast which is provided free of charge gets a little boring after a day or two, comprising of a few bread rolls, cheese etc, but is perfectly OK.

Overall a decent hotel at a good price point, nice and clean, spacious rooms and good location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool as there is a little noise on the front from taxis and revellers...

My friend and I had been wanting to go to Morocco for ages, and finally took the plunge. As we were on a budget, we opted for this Novotel in Marrakech so we could splurge a bit later at the beach... We choose well. The Novotel has a great location, we walked to the Medina several times as it was close and the weather was lovely. The breakfast was plentiful and filling each morning. And though we were not able to get cash in the Novotel, their sister Sofitel across the street had both a cash exchange desk and an ATM. The Novotel staff was knowledgeable and helpful, tour buses stopped regularly, and neither we nor the taxis had any trouble.

The room had a full sized bed (which my friend used), a day bed (which I used) and a pull out trundle bed (that we left closed to save space). We used the little fridge for drinks and snacks, but didn't use the microwave at all. Two half baths (one with shower and tub, the other with toilet) made getting ready easier, and the balcony gave a great view of the fountain and the neighborhood. Also, we were far enough off the beaten path that evenings were lively but quiet.

We fell lucky with an offer at this hotel, and as luck would have it the location was perfect for us, in walking distance of the Medina wall and the souks in Marrakech.
We found a supermarket just a slow 10 minute stroll away (turn right out of the hotel) so bought provisions for brek and lunch there, as well as drinks that we could keep in the fridge in our room 7 dirhams for a 1.5L bottle of Coca Cola v 25 dirhams for a 330ml can in the hotel!).
The room had everything we needed and the wifi worked perfectly for us.
Reception staff come across as a little grumpy, but bear in mind this is not the UK but a different culture. If you ask they will answer - they just don't offer!
If we returned to Marrakech we would live to stay at a riad inside the walls, but for first time visitors this was a great hotel. People hog the sunbeds but that happens all over the world. We just took our time and got them in the afternoon without fail.

This hotel is located in a good location, not too far from the Medina and the tour bus is stopped right in front of the hotel. Our family room is in good size, perfect for a family of 4. However, the receptionists are not very helpful nor friendly to us as we do not speak French at all. The Air Conditioner is not chilled enough, especially when it was 40 degree outside, thus not very comfortable when we slept at night.

Despite some negative comments posted on this site we found it to be good value for money and overall were happy with the hotel. The room was a good size for 2 and was clean and modern. The breakfast was a traditional Moroccan menu with good choice and you can eat as much as you want. (A lot of people took some up to there room for lunch later). The pool was lovely, especially given the temperatures in August, and the hotel is centrally situated. There was free internet access available and most of the staff were pleasant and helpful. I think there does need to be more staff on reception though. The hotel doesn't seem to change currency either though we were advised to use the Sofitel for that.
If I was to visit again though I would save up and stay at least one night at the beautiful Sofitel Hotel over the road. It is worth a visit even just to have a drink in the beautiful gardens there.

This hotel is ok in terms of the room being quite comfortable. The AC worked fine in the 40plus degree heat, and we overlooked the street outside facing the beautiful Sofitel. The room was well cleaned and we had plenty of teabags etc left each day as well as a bottle of water. So quite happy with the room.
We had read about the reception staff here on tripadvisor, and they were true to form! There was no-one at the desk when we arrived, a guy was in the office behind. A French family arrived just before us and were drinking their welcome drinks and filling out forms. We did not get any welcome drinks, and when we asked where they were, we were offered 2 but none for our children! The reception guy eventually came out - he had a really 'couldn't care less attitude', and gave us our room key. We made our own way to the room as the porter had disappeared for ages. Throughout our stay, no reception staff ever said hello, good morning etc to us first, we always had to say it to them. They didn't tell us anything about what was on offer at the hotel, or about the locality and trips. I think if you spoke French, you would have got a better service.
The breakfast was quite basic but ok. It was kept replenished and the lady and guy working in the breakfast area were polite, smiled and said good morning to us which was nice.
The area is also good, everywhere is close by. We did the bus tour and their staff were very friendly too as were the Sofitel people, who did not mind us going in there and lounging around some evenings. It's also safe and we had no problem in finding our way round. Marrakech is a beautiful, clean city with lovely architecture and gardens, and friendly people.
The Suite is a good enough hotel but if it's reception staff learnt some of the basics of customer service, it would do even better. By the way, one of the porters is in cohoots with the taxi drivers who lounge around outside the hotel all day, and will try to rip you off with the fare to the airport. You'll get a much better deal if you just hail one of the many taxis which pass by the hotel all day long.
