“Simply superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

What sets Aguaviva apart from other beautiful Riads in Morocco is the warmth and care that Cesc, David and Manuel show to their guests. They are genuinely interested in ensuring that people find what they are looking for in Marrakech whatever that might be. We spent 2 nights at the Riad at the end of a 9 day trip around Morocco and Aguaviva was a stand out Riad for us. The Riad itself is lovely and David's artist creativity is excellent. Cesc gave us a guided tour and showed us some superb places to eat and all 3 were interested in where we should visit and to learn more about where we came from. You won't be disappointed with this unique place

Room Tip: I liked the map room best

We stayed at Aguaviva for a few days in our trip to Marrakech/Essaouira during summer 2011. David, Cesc and Manuel were not only great hosts, but also guiding us, giving great advice on where to go for shopping for antiques as well as cafes and good restaurants. You will not find more welcoming and dedicated hosts, their warm friendlyness and way of being creates an atmosphere even the best five-star hotels can't match.

There are six rooms, each with their own bathroom (with a bathtub), all deliciously furnished in mixed marrocan antique and modern style. Good beds and they serve delicious breakfast. The place is located in the less touristic, old part of the city. The beautiful surroundings inside, is contrasting the "real Marrakech" outside the building. The walk down to the Medina is about 10-15 minutes, and (at least) as interesting as the Medina itself - will normally take half an hour or more as you will not resist stops on your way in small shops or interesting places. Through this walk you get the authentic experience of Marrakech. Be prepared (and enjoy) to get a bit lost in the many small streets :)

I can absolutely reccomend this place to anyone visiting Marrakech.

Massive thanks to our hosts who made us feel so welcome and who guided us through the Medina and its assault on our senses. The riad is absolutely gorgeous and the facilities are great. As far as location goes it is in a residential part of the medina but this only adds to its appeal and to the experience you get from that. My friends and I hired out the riad on the basis of its excellent reviews and we are so glad we did. The fantastic service Cesc and Manel provided was far more than we expected and we left feeling like we had two new friends. Thanks for everything guys!

I would like to thank David and Cesc from Riad Aguaviva for the incredible time we had in Marrakech. Everything was great, specially the delicious breakfast every morning. Most of all, I would like to highlight how welcome the hosts made us feel, it was like visiting good friends from the past, it was wonderful. In addition, they guide us through the crazy Marrakech streets so we wouldn´t get lost and you can tell they really care for their customers. Great experience.

Thank-you to Abdul for his guidance, tips and friendly assistance in the guest house, on the orientation tour and in general. Manuel and his team plated awesome breakfasts and looked after us like family.
A few tips for Marrakech in general
1 only 2pin plugs available
2 never believe the local in the old ledina have any interest in you except to make a quick buck
3 take a gps or spend lots of energy remembering Abdul's directions and map
Otherwise explore, walk, bargain, get lost, enjoy the culture, buy lots of quirky gifts, eat tegines, madras a must see and stay at Aguaviva.

I don't know what it was totally, but Marrakech was a disappointment. Perhaps we didn't stay long enough, perhaps it was because our daughter was jet lagged and cranky, but I found the experience overwhelming (the constant demand for our money on the streets, the loud narrow streets filled with speeding motorbikes), all contributed to an exhausting visit.

But the huge bright spot in Marrakech was the Riad Aguaviva! It is a beautifully decorated, comfortable oasis in the chaos. David and Manuel, Alicia (sp?), Simon and staff are AMAZING hosts. Very friendly and caring. They really did go out of their way to make our experience at the riad special and deeply memorable. David took us out the first day (as is his practice it seems) and showed us the path to the main square and some interesting sites along the way. It was helpful and fun. Both are very helpful, pointing out sites and restaurants. Manuel even walked us all the way to a suggested (excellent) restaurant. The riad is beautiful, but these two made it a delightful and wonderful experience. I can't say enough good about the hosts and the riad, They are great people to know and wonderful hosts.

David is an excellent artist (next time, we are going to his gallery) and he (and the staff!) made our 9 year old daughter feel like a queen. He even went so far as to take a photo of her because he wanted to paint her (can't wait to get a photo). Our daughter was tickled pink and felt very special. In fact, we all were made to feel like we were rare and special guests. I don't know how they do it day in and day out.

Some other highlights:
The breakfasts are excellent and the best we had on our entire 2 week trip to Morocco (we stayed at the riad 3 nights).
Simon has an amazing smile and friendliness that just brightens up the morning.
The terrace is beautiful and a delight to eat breakfast on.

Some tips: definitely get a driver from them (we got one from the train station). I'm not sure we could have found the place otherwise :D.

I enjoyed every minute spent in the Agua Viva Riad. This is an oasis of peace and quiet in the chaos of Marrakesh! The owners cannot do enough for you, and I would recommend this Riad to anyone going to Marrakesh. Muchas gracias guys :)
