“An Oasis in Marrakesh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2011

I enjoyed every minute spent in the Agua Viva Riad. This is an oasis of peace and quiet in the chaos of Marrakesh! The owners cannot do enough for you, and I would recommend this Riad to anyone going to Marrakesh. Muchas gracias guys :)

Wonderful place, and David is particularly helpful in making sure that you experience the real, non-touristy Marrakech, personally guiding us around some great places. He also recommended an excellent series of restaurants, showing great judgement about what we'd like.

Only downside was that the medina was quite far from the centre. This meant it was blissfully quiet, but the long trudge home on a hot day was hard work.

Room Tip: Sultan was great - a lot bigger than Mapa

My partner and I stayed three nights in Riad Aguaviva to celebrate her 40th Birthday and it was a trip we will never forget.
We booked online direct with David and everything went absolutely smoothly. One Tip. It is absolutely essential to arrange transfers from the airport as the Riad is hidden away down a very small passage in the heart of the medina. They are 20 Euros each way (the Riad takes only Euros in cash and requires 50% transfer up front to secure bookings) but worth every penny.
On first arrival we really didn't know where we were being taken, its a little bit daunting, (See the pictures of the entrance below) however inside, the Riad is everything it promises to be and more.
Our hosts (David and Sesc) were the most charming lovely people you will ever meet and nothing is too much trouble.
They are Spanish and therefore their English is by no means perfect, but certainly this is not a reason for British Travellers not to stay here. Sesc is patient and speaks French and Spanish fluently but his English is far better than he believes!
On Arrival we were given tea and Sesc gave us a tour down to the Jemma El Fnaa (Main Square) to make sure we didn’t get lost, stopping at some brilliant places on the way and pointing out many of the things we would want to see later.
Throughout the stay David and Sesc had constant recommendations of what we should see and where to eat. They were never wrong on either count.
Breakfasts at the Riad are excellent with true Moroccan dishes and the rooms are nicely furnished, comfortable and the showers have plenty of hot water. There really is no better place to stay.
I recommend changing money at the Airport on Arrival for Moroccan Dirham’s as you seem to get a better rate than in the city (believe it or not).
Finally, if you have never been to Marrakech and you want to see the real thing, stay at Riad Aguaviva. If you just want to do the tourist bits, this place may not be for you as it really is in the hustle of bustle of real life in the city and not for the faint hearted!
However the guys at the Riad will make you feel at home and tend to your every need and are the loveliest people I have ever met travelling.
If I ever return to Marrakech, it will be here!
David and Sesc, thank you so much for a wonderful experience.....

My partner and I stayed for 7 nights during July. We made our reservations via email and then completed a money transfer which we had no problems with. From start to finish our holiday was perfect. You are treated like family whilst staying, breakfast devine, hospitalily- fantastic and local knowledge and suggestion passed on without hesitation. We were given a map designed by the owners which was very handy and easy to understand. On our first night we where taken to the square from the riad (30 mins walk) and tested on finding our way back (with owner!) this was very helpfull as we never got lost once after this! As the riad is out of the touristy area, we felt like we got to see/be apart of the real Marrakech. I would definately recommend arranging taxi through the owners from and to the airport, as I know we would not of found it without prior arrangements (paying the extra for piece of mind was a good call) The riad itself is very tranquil and perfect after the hussle and bussle of the souks. We were given tours by the owners and viewed some spectacular places, once again we would not of found these gems without the guidance of the owners. We cannot praise the riad owners, staff and accomadation enough as it was very refreshing to be welcomed and treated exceptionally well. Definately on our top 5 trips ever. Thank you very much to the Family of Riad Aguaviva.

Me and my sister enjoyed this stay in Marrakech very much. From the beginning to the end we were met with overwhelming hospitality and help to find our way in Marrakech. We were even guided around and getting all the information needed about the city and the culture. The breakfast at the roof was also very nice, and the three guys hosting us treated us as true friends. An unforgettable stay!

Whereas I have been using tripadvisor for years, my experience at this Riad has been the reason to write my first ever review. And I am doing it to help other fellow travelers to identify a little gem that might change your perspective about what a Riad is, and Marrakech feels.

Overall, Aguavivia goes beyond the concept of Riad (place to sleep at take a couple of nice photos). The owners (that actually live on the Riad, as opposed to most of the others I have been to), run the Riad not as a business, but as a way of living. They decorated the whole place with exquisite taste (one is an accomplished painter), and use it as a platform to meet new and interesting people. This is the main reason why from the moment they open the door, they are at your entire disposition to either visit the Medina together, share a drink, or chat until very late night in their amazing rooftop.

Bottom line, its an experience more than a place to sleep. I learnt more about Morocco on the Riad rooftop with the owners than in all my travel guides, I made new friends, and for a couple of days, I enjoyed the full authenticity of Marrakech with out falling into yet another "soulless" Riad...

We were in a special beutifull place and we really felt like we were at home. The hospitality was way beyond the measure of excellence. We felt like family and as it was our first time in Morrocco and in Marrakesh, it was very important to stay here for the first nights. The Riad is amazing and the people are better. I can't put to words the expirience of staying here, and our hosts made sure to try to show us Marrakesh like a special mistirious place that it trully is. Without them i'm sure we had seen nothing or very little of the city. I dont really know what else to say except to give thanks to David, Manel and Cesc for everithing.
Our 7 year old son felt really treasured and welcomed like i've never seen, and nothing i would say can prepare for a stay in this riad, my advise for you if this is the first time in the country ou the city stay here, if not stay here you will not regret it.
