“Good cheap hotel but”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

This hotel is in a good location pool area good reception area good Breakfast ok as a veggi not much choice when booking it's worth paying a bit extra for the room as we had very tired blankets no fridge and the room was tired the rooms across the way had fridges etc staff did not speak English as most people in hotel were French I have stayed in Marrakech several times and when a hotel is 4 star it is more like a 2/3 star but for price and location it's good

Room Tip: Atlas Mountains was good

Hotel in parts a little tired.Nice pool area and grounds.Had breakfast only, not a lot of choice, but substantial, boiled eggs, cold meats cereals juices etc. Most of the clients French, and a bit of a language barrier,a lot of the staff don't speak much if any English.A nice lounge area ,and a little musical entertainment in the evening. We requested a room around the pool which we didn't get,we were at the front of the hotel ,which was actually better as we got the sun in the afternoon which made air pleasant to sit early evening.Cant fault the location, minutes from the medina, and didn't need to take taxis anywhere,we just walked

After reading some bad reviews on this hotel I wasn't sure what to expect but I decided to book it anyway as there was no other hotel available in this location at the price that would suit me so I was prepared for the worst. I have booked my room thru booking.com and upon arrival I was told that they did not recieved my reservation. It is a french speaking hotel so it took a while to get what I wanted as my french is very poor but I was eventually given a key to my room. I had a dinner then at the restaurant which was a bufet and I dont recomend that as it was not great and over priced. Breakfast was very good with a great selection. Room was ok,two single beds joined together to make a double bed which I dont like and the sheets and the blankiet werent warm enough for me as the night are stiil cold, nice bathroom with a bath. My room was facing a garden so it was nice and quiet and had a balcony. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel I found to be very clean. It is definately not a 4 star hotel, more like 3 but location is very good, only 10 min walk to the Jamaa el Fnaa Square. The hotel is situated next to the mosque so you will hear a call to the prayer in early hours of the morning but that only woke me up once and it wasnt very loud so it was ok. After all if you dont mind that staff doesnt have much english its not a bad hotel.

As reported by others, the location is great. Its within the Medina, ten minutes from Djema el Fna on foot, surrounded by gardens, opposite La Mamounia, an easy taxi ride from the airport, and well served by waiting taxis and caleches.

The building is bearing its age well. The hotel is set among gardens and next to other gardens. Its only two or three stories high, in the Marrakech ochre colour. The interior decor has a faded eighties quality which we liked. The pool was set at a very pleasant temperature. In general the hotel and its gardens provided a peaceful haven after the noise and bustle of the souk. In that respect it has an advantage over many riads.

Our room was comfortable and quiet. Good beds. Everything in the bathroom worked including the hot water and bidet. We put the heating on during the Feb night and it worked well. There was a cupboard safe which is always useful for electronics and spare credit cards. No mini-bar or fridge but that did not bother us.

Wifi in room was variable. The hotel states that wifi is only available in the hall. Not sure if the variable quality in room was a hotel problem or a general Marrakesh ISP issue.

The restaurant food needs some attention, although of course you don't have to eat there. We found the evening dinner buffet very useful. We would eat somewhere adventurous during the day and fall back on the hotel at night. Usually we found something that we liked, often in the way of simple tagines. The starters were unappetising, and the patisseries a little dry, apart from the fall-back creme caramel! For breakfast I relied on the delicious fresh grape-fruit, hard-boiled eggs, excellent fresh baguettes and Moroccan pan-cakes, good President butter and figue jam. But the breakfast coffee from those so-called expresso machines was terrible!

The staff are all very experienced, friendly and dignified, particularly if you give them a smile and some French!

I believe we got a good price and would come again.

Room Tip: We liked our balcony room looking into a garden formed on the three sides by the wings of the hotel.

We just got back from Morocco we spent 3 nights at Hotel Chems and loved it! We were a group of 5 ladies. We got an excellent price on the rooms.

The staff were lovely to us though our French was very rusty, we got by with a mix of French and English, we were treated really well by all of the staff.

The rooms were great, bathroom was clean, balcony had a nice view of the gardens. There is a heated pool.

Breakfast was delicious, a good variety. We had dinner only one night, which is Moroccan cuisine and had a there was a great evening of entertainment in the hotel (even though we ran away when they brought out the snakes LOL :-) )

The location is perfect, a 10 minute walk to the main square and all the souks so we didn't use taxis.

I would recommend this hotel highly especially for the location.

Room Tip: Garden or Pool facing rooms.

This hotel could be great, the location is the only thing in its favour. Checked into a family room which wasn't cheap - had to ask for duvet covers as the beds hadn't been made, asked for the floor/rugs to be cleaned as they clearly hadn't been and two of the 3 room lights didn't work - consequently offered a room change which we took - had to ask for the rug to be hoovered in the new room too. The hoover had more dust on it than in it. Staff friendly enough but no interest in guest satisfaction. Waited 15 mins in the bar for a glass of wine, came close to pouring myself a drink. Call to prayer wakes you at 5am.
Asked reception for help booking an early morning airport transfer/cab and was clearly totally ripped off as it was only a 10 minute journey - we were charged the equivalent of 25 euros for it. Horrible being ripped off like that.
Wouldn't recommend or stay here again.

Stopped here for a quick visit of Marrakech before heading to the desert and upon return. The hotel is dated, room is basic but quite spacious with a small balcony. The front desk staff is average with limited English but conceige is helpful. Unstable wifi in room. Breakfast is good with fresh juice, lots of bread and pastries. Room facing the swimming pool is more quiet.
