“Ideal riad Marrakech”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2010

I agree with other positive reviews of this riad.I stayed in several riads whilst travelling around Morocco and found Dar Habiba to be the best and the one that I would return to.
The design and interior of the riad is both traditional and elegant (I find some riads are becoming a bit gaudy and over the top in their interior design) The location is excellent, it enables you to hit the medina and return to some tranquility as often as you like during the day.As a solo female traveller I found this invaluable, also felt really safe in this area of the medina.
The staff were efficient, friendly and easy going, perfect for me.
The roof terrace is a great place to unwind but the highlight has to be the hammam.Have had plenty of hammams in the past but the one at Dar Habiba was exceptional Zanib was lovely and very good at her job!

My gf and I stayed at Dar Habiba for four days in June. The Riad was brilliant, just what we were hoping for from a traditional riad with easy access to the key areas in Marrakech. The staff were extremely helpful. The riad has a hammam, a plunge pool and serves evening meals and breakfast.
Overall our stay was very enjoyable and well priced.

This small intimate riad is just seconds walk from the hustle and bustle of Djemaa el-Fna but couldn't be more peaceful. The friendly atmosphere combined with a beautiful interior makes it the ideal place to stay to experience all the charms of marrakech. The manager, Najat is super helpful (she organised a must do trip to the Ourika valley and it was brilliant) and the owners Alistair and Steph couldn't be lovelier. Breakfast is ace, and so are the rooms and the hamam and dinner served on the terrace and the view and the courtyard and we really couldn't have felt more at home. Thank you for a wonderful holiday. Love Babs x x x

I stayed at Dar Habiba for 3 nights with four friends. This was my first trip to Marrakesh and I did not quite know what to expect but I was very pleased when I stepped into the courtyard of Dar Habiba. The quiet setting immediately put me at ease and made me feel at home. Alastair, Najat, and the rest of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The rooms were extremely comfortable and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend choosing Dar Habiba for your stay in Marrakesh.

The location is fantastic - right in the old medina, very close to a major taxi stand and parking lot, and conveniently located near Djemma El Fna. It was extremely easy to get around the city from this location whether you are looking to explore the medina on foot or grab a cab to visit the beautiful palaces and gardens outside the medina.

My friends and I spent our mornings having breakfast on the terrace of Dar Habiba, listening to doves and other birds calling from the rooftops as the sun rose. We spent the day exploring the city and would retreat back to the Dar Habiba when we needed a break. The evenings were also spent on the terrace before wandering back out to take in the spectacle of the market at night. The relaxing setting of Dar Habiba contrasted perfectly with the hectic nature of the market and the souks.

We had already planned our own itinerary for the trip so we did not ask the folks and Dar Habiba to set us up with any guided tours. But we repeatedly looked to Alastair and Najat for advice and information, whether it be souk-shopping tips, where to buy camping supplies, or tourist site information, and they were always ready to supply us with a wealth of information. The free internet access helped us check into flights and look up info in a pinch, so it was nice to have that amenity on hand.

I highly recommend getting the dinner that Dar Habiba offers. The cook (her name escapes me) is fantastic and the fish tagine is superb. For dessert, definitely go for the flan - sublime! The private hammam session that is offered at Dar Habiba is also a great way to unwind after a long, hard day of shopping, bargaining, and meandering through the medina. Do not miss out on trying a hammam session at least once during your stay.

The warm, personal service we received at Dar Habiba cannot be found at a hotel, or at other riads for that matter. We stayed at a few other places during our Morocco trip and Dar Habiba definitely blew the others away purely based on the outstanding service. If you are looking for a great experience in Marrakesh definitely choose Dar Habiba as your home away from home.

Many thanks to the Dar Habiba staff for a wonderful experience. And extra thanks for helping us find the world cup matches on the satellite tv!

We spent 5 nights at Dar Habiba, and had a lovely time. The driver picked us up from the airport, and took us to the main street nearest to the riad and Najat met us there. We then found out we were on the same plane as the owners Alastair and Steph! They told us some great stories of their experiences in Morocco during the lovely breakfasts out on the terrace.

The riad is so close to the Djemaa El Fna, the Mellah markets, etc. but it's so quiet and peaceful. We also felt very safe at there, and got a chance to relax - especially after the hammam, which was great!

We also thought it was great value for money, as we went at the very start of the low season, but the weather wasn't too hot. We even got one day of rain, but we had packed raincoats which Alastair was very impressed with :)

The team at Dar Habiba are so wonderful, Najat and the girls took such good care of us. Najat even packed us a breakfast one day when we were leaving early to catch a train, complete with plastic spoons!

From the time we made the reservation to when we left, the service was top-notch, and we were thoroughly impressed.
I'm so glad we trawled through the hundreds of reviews and found the right riad, it was a lovely oasis of calm in Marrakech!

We had a wonderful stay at Dar Habiba during our 3 nights in Marrakech. We were a group of 7 and it was a family, birthday, honeymoon trip all rolled into one. We arrived from Madrid and even though we were three hours late our driver was still there waiting for us. He was very friendly and spoke very good english and helped us to the drop of point where Najat was waiting for us. It was very helpful to have all the assistance getting to and from the airport to thehotel. I think, after being so late, and our first trip to Morocco, we would have been completely overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get to the hotel by ourselves. I highly recommend the shuttle service.
Dar Habiba is in a great location just a short walk to the Jemaa El Fna Square and in a very quiet neighborhood which is a great retreat after spending the day in the hustle and bustle of the city.
Our experience was similar to all previous reviews. Allistar was very helpful with all the initial reservations and Najat helped us with everything when we arrived. They are both extremely helpful answering every little question that came up and made our stay that much better.
I pre-ordered dinner with Najat for the day we arrived and it was amazing. It was a great introduction to Moroccan food. It was on the rooftop terrace and we had a great selection of appetizers and entrees. I highly recommend eating at least one meal here. They don't sell alcohol but we brought our own wine. We were told in the Madrid airport you can bring 3 bottles of wine per person to Morocco. We didn't have any problems at the airport in Marrakech with the wine.
Najat also set up a great day of camels and lunch in a traditional home. The camel ride was about an hour and then we had a great traditional lunch which was delicious. Our english speaking guide was very helpful and friendly and answered all of our millions of questions.
This trip was more about relaxing, so we spent a lot of our time on the rooftop terrace and enjoying Hammams. The hammam is a very relaxing bath/massage and it is great you can have it the hotel. It is 1 hour and you go one at a time.
Overall it was a great experience, no complaints from the 7 of us (27-55 age range). I would recommend this hotel to everyone and would gladly return.

We stayed at Dar Habiba for 8 nights, and was great! The initial contact and booking was dealt with through the owner Alastair, whereas on arrival everything else was over to Najat (who speaks good English and can help you with whatever you need).

We found the Riad to be a relaxing and calm place to be in which is ideal considering the bustle of the city! If you've never been to Morocco and only stayed in hotels then you should expect a difference, the attitude is totally different and much more personal; we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable by Najat and the girls. It was close to all the main attractions - the location was excellent. We also spent a good amount of time on the rooftop terrace (which is where our delicious breakfasts and food were served) which was lovely, and a great place relax after a busy day seeing the sites with a nice pot of mint tea.

Activities:- During our stay Najat also kindly booked us a number of activities for us, first was a trip to the Atlas Mountains with a guide who spoke great English and was very informative (he told us a lot about the areas we passed through on the way to the mountains, answered any questions we had, and would stop whenever we liked for us to take photos). She also arranged for us to ride Camels which was great fun, and again we had a great guide who spoke fantastic English and pointed out all the interesting sites en route. All guides sourced for us by Najat were extremely helpful, informative and very friendly! The camels were even friendly! After a long enjoyable ride with our camels we were taken to a traditional berber house where we ate the best meal we had had during our entire stay in Marrakech! During our stay we also visited Essaouira, which Najat helped us book and gave us very useful advice about the area. The beach was fantastic though remember to wear lots of sunscreen! Very sunny :p!

On food, we found it to be a little hit and miss based off of some of our guides' recommendations. Although as said previously the food eaten at the Berber house after our camel ride was fantastic home cooked meal, although the best and most consistent was the food at Dar Habiba. The night market at Jemma el fna is a must, but the night market vendors can be pretty pushy, but the food is good and also cheap (stuff like bread etc you will pay for, check over the menu), but it is a must have experience for any visitor to Marrakech.
