“Exceptional Holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2009

The riad zamzam is a luxurious and elegantly furnished, its located in the old medina, through a labrinth of alleys. The rooms are exceptional, and very clean. Marcus arranged our tours and emma gave us tips and where to shop. We arranged breakfast, everyday was different, nothing the same, the service was friendly nothing was too much hassle, the first few days, one of the staff would help us get our bearings and showed us the way, which I thought was wonderful. I would definately recommend eating in, the menu was great, and get emma to do the dessert, she,s better than any chef I know ! From start to finish this is one of my best holidays due to location of the riad, its truely serene, make sure you use the terrace, you can see the atlas mountains. We arranged to use the facilities of the spa and hamman, its was great. Will definately go again, better than any five star hotel, due to service and friendliness...........

As your bags are rolled in a rattling, makeshift cart through back alleys only the most intrepid would call welcoming, you might well ask youself (as I did), "What the hell am I in for?!" And then, turning a corner into the most claustrophobic crevasse yet, you see it - a burnished door bathed in a thousand pinpoints of light from the perforated orb of Moroccan brass dangling above. The cacaphony of the city fades behind you, replaced by the tranquil trickle of water playing among floating bouganvillea petals in the riad's courtyard dipping pool. A masterpiece of tasteful detail from lobby to bedroom to bath, Zamzam Riad is a monument to the impeccable vision of Emma and Simon Joyston-Bechal. Their hospitality is shared by a gracious and acccommodating staff who were more than happy to serve us a delicious tajine though we arrived near midnight. If you're heading Marakech, do not miss this little jewel!

The moment we saw the beautiful welcoming light at the end of the alley we knew we were in for a treat! This fabulous riad is was simply wonderful, with attention to every last detail. It is impeccably and beautifully furnished, and extremely comfortable and welcoming. Hosts Marcus and Emma made us feel completely at home and their staff were all equally charming. All plans, including airport collections, tours and taxis were organized by Emma and Marcus. Everything went off without a glitch, which really helped to make the 24 hours a worthwhile and memorable experience, whilst feeling safe in what could otherwise be an overwhelming city. I would highly recommend ZamZam Riad!

I was treated to a girlie weekend at Zamzam for my 40th birthday by my sister and mother who had carefully researched the perfect location to mark this milestone in Marrakesh...it was found at Zamzam!! From the moment we entered the Riad through the big wooden door, we knew that we had arrived at a very place special. After getting settled in our beautiful room, owner Emma warmly welcomed us and walked us through the mad map of the Medina, adding tips and conversational words (i.e Baraka!) Said, the house manager, offered us mint tea and biscuits/cakes...we instantly felt at home. This sense of being "at home away from home" was a constant theme during our weekend in a city that is anything but...!

Marrakesh is a "full-on" experience of noise, colours, smells. Our wonderful guide Najib gave us a fantastic tour through the Medina, showing us a number of points of interest as well as giving us insight into life in Marrakesh. Definitely recommend getting a guide on the first day, to at least begin to get orientated to the labyrinth that is the medina! Getting lost is part of the adventure, and one that you need not fear, as the staff are only a phone call away to help if required. In our 3 days we visited the main souks (who wouldn't) as well as the Mellah and the Jardin Marjorelle (wow!). All of the tour books recommend the Place Jemma-el-Fna and for good reason...if you go at around 5pm and sit up at either Glacier or Cafe de France you will have the opportunity to see "theatre" before your eyes....a wide array of street performers, snake charmers, henna tattoo artists, monkey trainers, not to mention the smells of the restaurant stalls that are set up each evening...we were mesmerised. The riad provided a welcomed retreat.

The riad is exceptionally decorated, with so much personal attention given to detail. We had the opportunity to "snoop" around to the 7 rooms in the riad, all of which were equal in beauty, comfort and design. The meals at Zamzam were superb and we had the opportunity to experience breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner! All beautifully prepared, presented and consumed. The terrace is a quiet haven, where we enjoyed most of our meals as well as evening drinks and late afternoon rests...you would never think we were in a bustling medina. We also took advantage of the hammam, gommage and massage all available at the riad..what a treat and one that should not be missed.

My review would be totally incomplete without mention of the owners Emma and Marcus as well as the staff and especially Said who really made our stay so enjoyable. They made us feel so welcome, took care of our every need in such a personal way, we left feeling as though we had said goodbye to friends...

...but not for long! Because we agreed we want to come back to Zamzam with our families. Marrakech is a place I can only imagine can be rediscovered time and time again. Zamzam will most certainly be our base to rediscover this amazing city.

I'm lucky to have done a fair bit of travelling one way or another in my life. My friend and I always try to get a girlie weekend away somewhere interesting where we can book a guide and see the sights properly. The choice this time was Marrakesh and my friend had been recommended we stay at the ZamZam. We were led down narrow alleyways that arent the prettiest (in the Medina) so we held our breath for a while! Once we arrived at the Rhiad, well we were amazed. What a beautiful, tranquil haven. An oasis of calm and luxury in a busy culture. All of the staff and the owners Marcus and Emma, went out of their way to arrange restaurants, guides, taxis for us. They were all so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We ate out at different places but I would recommend exploring during the day and eating at the ZamZam in the evening as their food was by far the very best, absolutely delicious. I loved their breakfasts too, wow, what a selection! I definitely want to return to the ZamZam and have recommended this place to so many of my friends already. The only thing that was a downer about the whole weekend was the restriction on luggage that Ryanair have. Theres so much you want to take home with you!

Marrakesh was described by our lovely Moroccan guide as a "feast for the senses" and this totally depicts our experience at this beautiful Riad. The staff and the owners, Emma and Marcus, went out of their way to make our first trip to Marrakesh special. They organised an efficient airport transfer, restaurant bookings as well as guides around the mad maze that is the medina. The Riad itself is stunning with beautiful rooms, first class service, and served some of the best food we experienced in Marrakesh. Their roof terrace with personally served breakfast is an absolute treat and we only wished we had booked a few more days - we will definitely be back for more!
