“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

We stayed at the amazing Riad Zamzam for 4 nights. Tucked away in the northern part
of the Medina you get a good flavour of how real live is for the Moroccans. We strolled
many times from the famous square in Marrakech through the interesting "streets"
to the Riad Zamzam. Once we got to the Riad it felt as if we had arrived in haven. We
were always greeted with warm smiles by the staff. They could not have been more
attentive throughout our stay. The decor, furnishings etc. are a feast for the eyes, not to
mention the wonderful palm tree in the middle of the court yard. We had a wonderful stay!

I was lucky enough to stay at Riad Zamzam for 3 nights at the beginning of April. It's a bit out the main touristy part of the medina and felt more authentic as a result. I liked seeing where moroccans actually live and experiencing the hustle and bustle of daily life. The riad is beautiful and the staff are amazing. They arranged for transport at all times of the day and made sure I was always safely home at the end. I look forward to returning again and hope that I can stay longer.

Room Tip: Each room is special so I recommend looking at the website to choose the one that you like best.

Left Riad Zamzam this morning after 3 wonderful nights in this beautifully decorated and renovated riad. It is located in the north of the medina and you get the treat of walking through authentic, non-touristy neighbourhoods along the way. The service is impeccable and attentive, they book guides, restaurants and cars, and walk you to and from them at night - finding your way at night can be tricky! Relaxing on the rooftop terrace with mint tea after an exciting day in the medina, followed by a hammam and massage in the rooftop hammam is a must do. Dinner and breakfasts delicious. Truly a wonderful and memorable stay. Thank you!

Thanks Riad Zamzam for a memory we will never forget.

The staff and their service are excellent, actually one of the best service we ever experienced in a hotel and this is something we would never write unless we really meant it. Extra + + for the evening staff that met us at the taxi dropoff point every night (about 5 mins walk) to find our way back to the riad (which can be a bit tricky).
The owners were very friendly and took their time go around and make sure everyone were fine during the days.
The rooms and the riad are beautyfully designed in luxery Marrocan style and the terrance is lovely to relax at, or why not to enjoy the great breakfast or a lunch?
The food's great and the usage of locally, ecologically grown groceries is an extra touch we really appreciated.
You get quite a lot to eat no matter what you order but it's a little bit too pricy compared what we have paid at equally restaurants in trendier area Gualiz (newer parts of Marrakech).
The riad's located in the north medina (rougher parts of the old town Medina in Marrakech) but this is only adding a more authentic feel to your overall experience.

Thanks everyone at Riad Zamzam for three unforgetable days!

Stayed here recently for a weekend break with the wife: Summary below

Pros:
Lovely inside - rooms are very good value, very clean and nicely furnished (if a bit small - suspect this is typical of most riads...)
Staff very kind and helpful
Very peaceful - well off main drag (see Cons below), far from touristy areas (except for dodgy water boiler that played up on our 2nd night, all night, we would have slept soundly...)

Cons:
Location: situated at the north end of the old town, it really is quite a trek to the square. Moreover, it is almost impossible to locate, which can be hugely frustrating after a long day's wandering
Food: breakfast was adequate and a dinner there was really not much more than passable at best
Rooms: Be careful to check whether you have booked a ground floor room - yes, it is cheaper, but is literally directly accessed via lobby

Room Tip: Go for upper floor - really the only sensible option

ZamzamRiad, Owner at Zamzam Riad, responded to this review, March 19, 2012
The team at Zamzam went out of their way to accommodate this client. We moved him to a suite with no surcharge as he was not happy with the room he had requested even though it is stated ground floor. This was very difficult as we were full. He refused to even have breakfast or a coffee on the first day, charging out of the riad into the Medina without a proper briefing. I stopped him to make sure he had his map and knew where he was going. We are 25 minutes walk from the square walking through different areas of interest on the way eg. the Marrakech museum. but close to the Majorelle Gardens so its swings and roundabouts wherever you are staying in the Medina. We are in a wonderfully quiet and traditional residential area of the Medina where you can still experience the true Morocco. We did have a problem with our solar panel pump which we fixed the next day. The food at Zamzam is exceptional, please see all our many other reviews stating the opposite and we pride ourselves on it. This client had already told me he was fussy with restaurants and emailed me many times from the Medina asking to change his evening restaurant.
We have a master suite on the ground floor which is not the cheapest room (The Rose) and a standard room (The Hagar). The courtyard is very quiet and many clients choose to be on the ground floor. As this client refused his room on the ground floor on arrival he would not have know this.

Beautifully designed riad, especially the lighting. Also very friendly and service minded staff - that was a true pleasure. Excellent breakfast!
Location is not the most central in the Medina (and next to a large church yard) but the staff is happy to help you find your way at night. However, quite a long walk to the souks.
If you are looking for hammam, please note that the hamman on the roof does not compare to a real spa experience.
