“Amazing honeymoon, amazing place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

We stayed at the Riu Tikida Palmeraie for one week from the 6th Dec 2010 for our honeymoon. We took our 14 month old son Fin with us. We had never stayed in an all inclusive before and didn't know what to expect. I had read the reviews on here but thought this was the most suitable place to stay with a baby, and I was right.
The reception/resturant areas were beautiful, the staff lovely and so attentive and the hotel was immaculate.
Everywhere you went there was someone cleaning or gardening.
The food was lovely, and with a young family the buffet suited us. So much better than having to wait for service and no guilt if the baby wouldn't eat something!
The staff put a lovely bottle of champagne in our room for us and the cleaning staff scattered rose petals on our and our son's beds, left us towels in the shape of hearts or swans and folded our sons pj's each day with such care.
We didn't eat at the Italian at night but loved the Morrocan resturant.
We liked the drink for the main, but only liked the red wine which is more drinkable than totally enjoyable!. The wine is very dry, similar to the cheaper wine in Spain/Portugal, so if you only like fruity/medium wine you probly won't like it.
We used the bus into Jnaa el Fnaa a few times, explored the souks, went on a horse and carriage ride and visited Jardin Majorelle and Katoubia mosque.
Marrakech was everything we had hoped for and it was somewhere I had wanted to visit since a child.
The Morrocans love babies and our son soon got used to getting attention everywhere he went. This took a bit of getting used to from us too, but once we had it was so lovely for us to see children treated as a gift, rather than an annoyance to be managed as discreetly as possible.
The other guests were also lovely and friendly, so thanks to everyone who was there week of 6th Dec and was so lovely to us and our baby.
We had an amazing time, I can't praise this hotel enough and thanks to everyone we met during our stay, you all helped make our honeymoon so magical.
I would go back in a heartbeat.

Highly recommend this hotel especially for families. We found the food excellent and the hotel faultless in service and cleanliness.

Wished the rooms had armchairs rather than backless bed sofas with loose cushions as I found the sofa too uncomfortable to relax on so I could never go back to relax and read a book etc. so had to sit in the reception areas where they had very comfortable armchairs.

We would have liked more variety offered in the evening programme.

Best hotel to go with family. Plenty of this activities for kids to do. Food is good> Staff are great. Apart from few One in reception and one in the bar. the rest are great happy to serve. Animation team is the best. Front office could improve.Room keys please make sure they are new cards otherwise you have to come to the reception everytime when you need to get into to your room because it dont work. Apart from that no Jacuzzi or saunna as advertised but Spa is great.

Travelled here on 13th Dec 2010, we were greeted at the hotel with a fruity cocktail and beautiful blue skies!!!! After checking in you can leave your bags with the porters or take them to your room yourself, we chose to take them ourselves as we wanted to catch the last few hours of the sun!!! The hotel IS very large but we found our way thanks to the signs and the helpful staff that are dotted all over the complex!
We chose to stay around the pool all week as we wanted to chill before heading home for the Xmas madness!!!!! The pool staff did a fantastic job and always greeted you with a smile, as did the bar staff on and evening who even remembered what we drank each night!! The Entertainment staff did a fantastic job taking time to sit with us for at least 10 mins each every day, we had fun taking the mick and getting to know them! They worked hard every day from 9am through to midnight and always had a smile on their face! The night entertainment was not always up to much but they tried their best and you can tell they had put a lot of hard work into it! The guys even got us to enter Mr & Mrs Riu Tikida Ideal Couple which is by far the funniest thing we have ever done and coming in first place more than made up for been "dive bombed" by my wonderful BF in front of half of the hotel (which I think is what won it for us!!!)
As a picky eater I was slightly worried about the food but I didn't need to be as they had such a wide variety there was always something for us to eat we especially like the breakfast omelettes and lunchtime panini's!
Overall we had an excellent holiday and would def recommend this hotel to our friends and family and we WILL def be returning!!

We stayed here in July 2010 at a time when the weather was 45-50 degrees every day. A new Rui (opened late 2009), we were quite impressed at it's appearance, particularly inside. We arrived late evening and were checked in quickly and efficiently. Given the time, we were told to head to the buffet for dinner before it closed. A decent spread and good first impressions. Decor wise, quite impressive too. The same could be said the the lobby, lobby bar and the lounge bar, the latter of these having a massive screen for the World Cup games!

Our room was on the first floor with a balcony looking over the tennis courts and close to the massive pool and pool bar. It was a decent size with a large bed, sofa, desk area, safe, TV, fan and air conditioning. Also a minibar/fridge that was regularly topped up with water, both by our cleaner and by us...given the temperatures outside a constant supply of cold water was a necessity.

As I mentioned, the pool was massive with plenty of sunbeds. That said, there were a lack of parasols. We had no problem getting and retaining one, but others weren't so lucky. The hotel did start to realise this, and more and more kept appearing as the week progressed. The drinks station opposite the bar had soft drinks, water and beer on self-serve, but did have a problem with wasps...lots of them. The area was regularly cleaned and this did help, but the wasps just wouldn't go away.

Food was decent in most restaurants I thought. At lunch you ate in a large dining room on one side of the pool. This doubled up as the Italian restaurant in the evening. A nice spread of food and some great service in here. The Morrocan restaurant had a lovely selection of meat dishes and tagines. I enjoyed this but it's no good for vegetarians!

Try and get yourself out of the resort and into the city, both during the day and at night. The souks are simply amazing, big, loud, buzzing, particularly after dusk. If you don't fancy it, a more modern side of the city is accessible also. High Street names galore and lots of bars and restaurants. The hotel provides a free bus into town at various times during the day, but you may have to get a taxi back at night. Should cost you around 80-100 dirhams.

Overall a really good experience. Good food, drink and service. A good buzz around the hotel at night with the World Cup games being shown. Would recommend but avoid in July if you don't like the heat!!!

What a fabulous hotel, clean, friendly, excellent service, we had a young adult with special needs with us, the staff were brilliant with her.
Best nights sleep away from home ever!
The food was tasty and plentiful in all three restaurants, the staff helpful, friendly and pleasant. The room was massive, clean with plentiful amounts hot water.
The outside pool may have been cold but there was always the indoor pool and a gym to satisfy any need for exercise.
Do visit the Market Square and take a horse and cart trip to see places not usually seen. Ensure you experience the Square after dark to fully appreciate Marrakech at its best.
The traffic and roads around the square, total madness, be prepared to jaywalk with locals, but what fun!
To say this was a super holiday would be understating the fact. We will return as soon as possible to experience much more of this magical place.

To be honest when I read about the negative views I was slightly put off, as I have never travelled any were like this before, except India. And to be fair the was no difference realy besides the pink buildings and better looking cars.

This was an excellent hotel value for money Thompson reps were great help even sorted me out with fans for are bedrooms that I booked. Note that the air con system is shut down in winter weather etc December, but when I tried to sleep at night I found that it was still to warm and the Thompsom rep was great help in sorting this out.

The hotel was clean very big the staff done an excellent job keeping the place clean you could see them at 6am in the morning, the hotel also had it,s very own security plenty of them around in the visible yellow jackets patrolling the area at night.

One thing I would like to complain about and that is inside the hotel is a company that provides horse riding and quad biking book these at your own risk. When i went horse riding I got an elergic reaction to the horse with watery eyes blocked nose blood shot eyes and swollen face for three days. Then I booked the quad biking for me and my son only to find that the quads bikes were a joke and battered nothing like the what they advertised in the hotel film. Please be aware of this.

Also the entertainment staff they were amazing around the children 24/7 full off hugs kisses and smiles and a special thanks to SARAH and BOB who stood out. Be fair the entertainment staff also did the night shows and I thought were great my children loved them they tried hard and I could not fault them.

Food was great but did get boring towards the last day BUT DO TRY THE SWEETS THEY LOOKED BEAUTIFUL AND TASTED GREAT TOO think I put on a couple of pounds.

Running out of good things to write about oh yes the outside pool was freezing and my son caught a cold and was bed ridden for 2 days, but the inside pool was pleasure. please ignore the negative views, if this is a four star then I would love to see what a 5 star hotel is like.
