This was a holiday booked for my birthday but instead of fun it was an unpleasant experience. The hotel opened last year but still has work being done to the gardens/lakes etc. Waited three hours for luggage after various tele calls to reception and a midnight trip to reception. Initially placed in the wrong room but was corrected the following evening - wasted a whole day resolving it. Used the dry cleaning service only to have a top ruined but was reimbused straightaway. The main attaction is the pool which is not heated and is frequented by "resident" cats who drink out of the pool and at night saw them urinate in the pool! The same cats hang out at the restaurants and do not be surprised to see them walk in when you are having your breakfast. I did complain for hygiene reasons but to no avail.Food is non varied and mainly buffet style - did not try the Italian or Morroccon restaurants. Bar is worth visiting but expect many smokers in the bar Marrakech does not have a no smoking policy like us! I picked up a bug (and am aware of at least 6 other people who did too) and spent the last two days being sick and having diarrohea. Rooms are clean and spacious but no iron/ironing board and mini bar empty. Do not try the Hamman beauty treatment unless you go private or you can expect to be in a hamman topless with at least four or five other people! Very degrading and was not prepared for it. Hotel shop very expensive and despite Marrakech custom dictates haggling - the staff do not let you haggle on prices! Majority of hotel staff excluding shop staff are friendly and do the most to help. Shuttle buses to centre of Marrakech limited times. On the upside weather was hot . Souks oppressive and intimidating for me as a woman and despite being covered up was subjected to immense hassle from men. The square is lively fully of belly dancers, snakes and monkeys. Atlas Mountains trip provided spectacular breathtaking scenery but expect car sickness!. This is my experience and sorry if you have already booked to go hopefully your experience will be better than mine!

All inclusive hotel at B & B prices. We had no problems whatsoever and would certainly go there again. Huge bedroom on the ground floor an outside terrace with not much of a view but once all the gardens have been established it will be more pleasant. T.V with plenty channels and a nice sofa to relax on. The hotel is new and there's still a lot of snagging work needed, one or two had problems with the plumbing which didn't seem a priority to the hotel staff. Yes it is a bit of a hike from the rooms to the main reception/bars/restaurants but when you've eaten and drunk enough to sink a ship for 15 hrs a day it's not a bad thing. Friendly staff, always willing to help and exchanging money was no problem (no need to exchange any at airports beforehand) and the rate was slightly better for the Euro that the GBP. Food was a bit repetative but good quality and there was always plenty of choice. The Italian & Morroccon Restaurants made a nice change and were easily bookable at no extra charge, although they were smaller than the main restaurant and got a bit warm and stuffy. Local wine and beer was very acceptable. The spirits and liquers were not branded but hey, they are free, what do you expect?Thomsons trips were quite expensive, 4 of us hired a taxi outside the grounds for the day much cheaper and probably saw more of the sights than the coach trips. See Abdel in his Mercedes Taxi, he can speak very good English and is a perfect guide, he comes from a Berber family and can tell you everything you want to know. The quad bikes were great but be prepared to come back covered in red dust. The shuttle bus to the sqaure ran very smoothly, ran to time and very convenient we had no problem booking it but it may be busier as the season goes on. Taxi back after the last bus was 100 DH (£8) before 8.00 150DH after, they always ask for more but give in gracefully without too much hassle. Entertainment mediocre but there was something going on both during the day by the pool and in the evening. Indoor pool great as the outside one was still a bit cool but should be warming up by now. Great Hotel for chill out and am considering going again for just 4 days for a girly break. Just one downer,if you like tea or coffee when you wake up, take a travel kettle, the deposit on one to loan was very expensive (even though it was all returned). There is a garage just a short walk away with a Spar type mini market if you need tea/coffee/milk etc.

I know that most who read these reviews are reading prior to departing on an already booked vacation so if you don't want to read anything bad about your well earned holiday then read no further.
Like most others who are using this hotel at the moment we were attracted by the low all inclusive prices at a brand new hotel offered by Portland/Thomson. But, regardless of the amount you pay, if you are told the hotel has been rated 5 star then you are allowed to expect a 5 star hotel.
With all due respect to Riu and TUI who jointly own the Riu group of Hotels, someone is having a laugh. The hotel is poorly run and both the standard of service and the quality of the accommodation, food and drink is poor. The only positive is the attitude of the staff who are trying their best with a poor product.
I can only report my own experience and I understand that we all have differing tastes and expectations so those who have said that this is a fantastic hotel have expressed an opinion. I disagree and say that this is a below average product in a poor location.
The food in particular was poorly prepared, cooked and presented and the lunchtime venue was worse than any bad motorway service station cafeteira I can recall.
The prices have started to rise and are now almost double the amount we paid and if you re-visit here in a few months time I feel sure we will see more and more poor reviews from people who are paying and expecting a 5 star product.
The sun shone the whole week as bright as the faces of the animation team, the Medina was magical and believe it or believe it not we had a good holiday but could have been so much better if we had chosed and stayed at another hotel.

What a fantastic holiday! we arrived late after a delayed flight and thought we were going to go hungry, but no the hotel management had kept the restaurant open for everyone. We had welcome drinks waiting and check in was a breeze even thought there was 3 bus loads coming back to the hotel at the same time! Our room was right at the back of the complex although it didnt have the best view as the hotel is only 99% completed i imagen it will once the gardens are complete!

Not one problem with the hotel, it was like i said, fantastic. We ate in both of the A La Carte restaurants which were lovely, still a buffet style but felt abit more personal. Drinks were great, and the rooms were large and nicely decorated! Weather was amazing, was 30oc everyday with abit of cloud in the morning and evening but was tanning weather non the less!

I would book the excursions at the welcome meeting, i'd book them beofre you travel as them seemed to work out cheaper! We did the discover Marrakech excursion which id deffinatly recommend so you can get a feel for the souks and go back again and enjoy it in your own time, as the hotel has a free shuttle bus that takes you to the Djemaa el fna square where the souks are located! We also did the cascades d'ouzouds excursion which was really pretty but a hard walk, you had to climb plenty of steps to get the best view!

The only thing i will mention was the pool was really really cold but what can you expect that time of year and a pool that size!

when you arrive you are greeted by staff with a friut cocktail, the rooms are big and comfortable, pool is very large with plenty of sunbeds but get full very quick, some days you will get friut skewers and friuty cocktails bought round, food is good but not a great variety, the italian restuarant was good they make u any pizza u wish but the morrocan resturant is definatly a must, you will never go hungry or thirsty at this hotel although the drinks are local and taste like toilet cleaner the wine is nice though.there is still some work bein done around the hotel.the entertainment team work hard from morning to night.the hotel shop is very over priced best to go to souks or shop at the airport.the hotel entertainment is ok they try there best and there is two male singers in the lobby if you like a nice dance.staff are very friendly and would do anything for you.the bar shuts dead on midnite so if you want to carry on drinking stock up because they are not keen on you buying .the souks are a real eye opener just be WARNED.it is quiet a walk to your room from the hotel.there is no pubs or shops around the hotel area no where for a walk really.would definatly recommend the trip to FANTASIA AND CAMEL RIDE.

stayed here from 12/03 for a week. First of all it is not as grand as other Riu resorts we have stayed at. Check in was not smooth,it never is,was given a ground floor room, changed it to first floor room, but remember, this is a two storey resort,so half the guests will get a ground floor room, and these rooms have an open terrace.
Room,big clean and well decorated,A/C worked,TV a small 17" has ITV Ch5 BBC news.
No tea or coffee making facilities,no iron or ironing-board.,room had a fridge, don't know why,the only drink are water bottles.Cleaning staff good.
Over all this is a new resort so the plants etc are still being planted in,two small lakes were green and slimey, big swimming pool with plenty of sun-loungers etc.
Food ,well it can vary from day to day,Moroccan restaurant,is a waste of time, service in this is poor, they give you a menu, but it is buffet style! staff indifferent.
Main restaurants ,food is not plenty, minimal staff, service ,nothing special, beef and lamb roasts are maily red raw,may be the french like it that way...surprisingly very little fruit is served, food really lets this place down.Free wi-fi in the mail lobby.
there is a bus that runs from hotel to town and back,it is free, last bus is at 7pm to town.
I got the feeling that staff here will not go the extra mile to help you.
Over all not a 5star,run on a budget,if you have not been to other Riu resorts, then this is ok.
