“A very Enjoyable weeks break in a Heat Wave”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Me and my girlfriend stayed at The Riu in Marrakech the week of the 9th May. I booked direct with the hotel and flights separately as a last minute get away. Upon arrival you walk into a very nice looking lobby and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We flew in early so our room was not ready but i was cool with this and expected as much. We decided to go for lunch and have a walk about and my initial reaction was one of panic as we got closer to the pool area and could hear loud clubbing music. It turned out we had arrived as the pool staff were doing an aerobics class but i thought i'd accidentally booked an 18-30's holiday for a minute, we had lunch and chilled for a while and went back to reception. I had emailed the hotel a week before asking for a nice room and we were given room 3118 which we absolutely loved. It was far enough away from the pool area so it was quiet and you had a view of the mountains, also most rooms do not face the sun but our balcony was always in it so we could sit and watch the sunset after a day by the pool and before dinner, I was really happy with our room. The rooms are spacious with a separate bathroom and toilet, we had 2 single beds pushed together but again i was happy with that. I got a great sleep on that bed. The air con does not go super cold but the temperature was just right. The week we were there Marrakech had a heat wave and one day was 48 degrees! It was insane temperatures, so getting back to the cool room of an evening was lovely. The cleaners do a great job and every day our room was cleaned spotlessly and there was a towel on the bed in the shape of a heart with petals (nice little touch) also new bottles of water are replaced too.

The garden area and grounds around the hotel are immaculate and always being attended to by staff, there are lots of herbs and lovely smelling plants growing and the little birds are a pleasure to feed too.

The spa is very nice too, we had an Hammam which was very pleasant and relaxing.

The pool area is quite nice, there are plenty of sun loungers and also a few spongey beds where you can tie a big sheet to 4 posts above you if the sun gets too much, we got up early every morning and made sure we grabbed one, they are worth it!

The pool itself was huge, i have seen a lot of reviews saying the pool was too cold but it was absolutely perfect and a life saver whilst we were there. You can perch yourself nicely in the middle island with a cocktail in one hand and a book in the other whilst you are slightly submerged in cool water with the sun beating down on your face, this was lovely.

The cocktails are nice and the Mojito's (not on the menu) are very good. During the day there is entertainment staff that do their best to get people participating in activities such as water polo, yoga and aerobics, we just chilled but they are never pushy or annoying and are very pleasant. That goes for all the staff, always smiling, extremely polite and welcoming and make you feel very at home. There is music played now and again but it never becomes annoying, We found it funny when christmas carols came on!

There are 3 restaurants, Buffet, Italian and Moroccan and of course the Moroccan one was the best. You have to book but this is a very easy process. We never ate in the Italian but did in the buffet which always had a huge choice of food, literally something for everyone. That goes for breakfast too, could not fault it.

The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to the main square which you must do, we took the last bus and got a cab back late which was about a tenna, you definitely have to do this, the square is pure madness!

The wifi is temperamental and only works in the lobby but i like not having wifi on holiday, i don't want want to be on Facebook, i want to be in the pool!

I think holidays are what you make them and you could pick faults with the hotel in places, like occasional cockroaches in the lobby toilet, or you could moan about not having a proper double bed but these are massively trivial and irrelevant. Overall we had a fantastic time, it's not a 5 star hotel, but its clean, staff are amazing and the food is very good, I was very sad to leave.

Thank You

Room Tip: we had room 3118, view of the mountains, quiet and perfect distance away from the pool

Me and my partber visited on 1st may for 2 weeks amd i must say it was absolutrly gorgeous!!.... we arrived at 1am and were greeted with a cocktail! They had opened the resturant so we could a little bite to eat... by the time we were at our room our suitcases had been delivered.
The staff were amazing would go out of their way to make you feel special.... so friendly! Each day the cleaners did a fabulous job of the room making swans and love hearts!
Do go on some trips we spent a day at the Atlas Mountains and a day at the Cascades D'Ozourd they are beautiful plus you also experience morocco in its natural surroundings!
Overall a fantastic holiday.... resort, food, staff were all spot on! Would definitely recommend it

Recently spent my second holiday here. On arrival greeted with welcome cocktail & bags taken to room very quickly. Our room was very spacious, airy & comfortable. Decor was a little tired, but the room was spotlessly clean. The hotel gardens are very well maintained & absolutely beautiful, they're lovely for a stroll early morning before it gets too hot. Meals are served buffet style, I am a very fussy eater, but had no problem finding food to enjoy every day for breakfast, lunch & dinner. When you consider how many people holiday there each year I found it amazing that at dinner in the main restaurant the Restaurant Manager recognised us from last year & thanked us very much for coming back. At reception you can book to have dinner at either the Italian or Morrocan Restaurant for a change. The service is still buffet style, but the ratio of staff to customers is higher & staff are even more attentive than usual. I personally found the alcohol to be equally as strong as in the U.K. The premixed cocktails may not be very strong, but that also applies in U.K. The pool is very large & yes on first entering it feels very cold, but once submerged it's great & with temperatures reaching 47 as they did whilst I was there it provides a very welcome relief from the heat. What makes this holiday exceptional is the staff. I have never come across such warm, friendly, attentive, hard working people before coming to this resort. They are all so customer focused & as previously stated, nothing is too much trouble. I personally really enjoyed the daily Aqua Gym & would like to thank Mohsin very much for making it such great fun & for entertaining us so well. He is an outstanding character, a natural entertainer, an absolute star! We received excellent service from staff throughout our stay. Our room was thoroughly cleaned daily & always had beautiful towel sculptures. Service at breakfast, lunch & dinner was always very good. Consistently received great service at the bars. I would like to point out that other than tipping the porters on arrival, we did what we did last year & only tipped other staff on our last day. We received excellent service, from wonderful customer focused staff throughout our stay.

Can't fault this place at all. From the stunning grounds and interiors to the huge bedrooms and pool area, we were well looked after from start to finish. The staff cannot do enough for you, by far the best team of staff I have ever encountered around the world! We will definitely be returning next year!!

We arrived very late at night for our 10 night stay and they showed us straight to the restaurant for food which was very good. We never saw our luggage, they took it straight to our room and when we finally found our room it was very spacious with lots of room and storage, we were on the first floor and had a balcony which is much better than ground floor rooms. The beds are slightly hard but I still slept ok.

It is a large resort with a really big pool which was lovely as it was very hot! the food was a bit repetitive, but they did try and change some things everyday and there was quite a choice. There is an Italian buffet and Moroccan buffet as well. The drinks are not great, they do a few cocktails but not brilliant, but they have vodka, gin, a few other spirits, wine, beer, juices and soft drinks.

The staff here are very attentive, great service and we did tip every time though and it definitely helped, as we had a couple of bar men and restaurant staff that looked after us during our holiday and made sure we were sorted, as some were times we did wait a while. Housekeeping we tipped everyday and we had a towel animal made each day, our lady was very good and the room was thoroughly cleaned. The hotel overall is very good and is always being cleaned and gardens are done every day and looks very nice.

The only thing which was spoilt it was the spa. We booked a 'sweetness' duo Haman for our anniversary, but decided to change it for a day earlier and went back to change it, we arranged our whole day around this and when we arrived, they had booked it in for the wrong day! a day we had a tour booked. We were not happy and were not getting anywhere with the spa staff, so we asked to speak to the manager, she thankfully sorted it for us and managed to fit us in that day.

We also booked the Moroccan for our anniversary and we asked about getting a bottle of champagne or bubbly for this reason, we knew they had them as we had seen other people with them in other restaurants. We expected that we would have to pay for it, but they were very funny about it when we asked, as though we were expecting it for free or something! We said we knew and would pay and it took sometime and someone else to come over to sort this out for us and we eventually got one, but this kind of spoilt our night a bit.

Do note the WIFI here is shocking, it came up but never worked!

Room Tip: first floor more sunshine less dark and better view

This is the first time I've been to Marrakech and I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel and its extremely pleasant and helpful staff. I could not have asked for better. The whole hotel was scrupulously clean and the bedrooms very spacious with a separate WC. The food was extensive with a Moroccan slant and you would need to be very fussy if you could not find something to suit your taste. The wine was good and freely available and although I'm not really a spirit or beer drinker, my friends told me they were good as well. The pool was almost Olympic in size and very extensive and the towels free and the correct size to fit the sunbeds, which all had the availability of shade. My friend and I both had various Spa treatments which were good and very reasonably priced.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and would certainly return again.

We enjoyed a week here in August
Brilliant for my then 2 year old, pool was fab - but slippy as all tiled would recommend getting any young children scuba slip on shoes - worked a treat with our son!

Normal mission to get a sun lounger in the morning-mainly because we needed shade!
Free clean towels everyday for poolside

Food was good. Again standard all inc style- trying to please everyone! Some nice cous cous and tagines on offer though.

We enjoyed sitting outside each evening and listening to the live music! Our son would dance and we sipped cocktails!

It's worth a trip to the sukh - you can get a free bus and stroll round the windy colourful stalls and then head back! We went as a group of all girls - it wasn't a problem, we were polite to the stall holders and they were not overly pushy to sell their items! So don't be out off - it's an experience and free so go!
