“riu easter break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Stayed at this hotel 3rd-10th April, myself and my wife in one room 2 daughters 21&24 next door room 1st floor as requested via email 25mins from airport, given a very fruity cold drink on arrival, cases delivered to the room
Weather was mixed all week chilly when the sun did not shine ( 2 days ) on one cloudy day booked a trip to the soucks with Thomson rep about £13 changed money at Reception later found out exchange rate was slightly higher outside, barter well in the soucks you can roughly half the first price your offered, glad we all went on the 4hour tour as it was guided through the market streets and allies I am quite good at finding my out of anywhere but this place is a challenge, the next day we all returned to do our shopping on the hotel shuttle bus
Food- great enjoyed everything tried new dishes and all the favourites such as fresh pizza French fries hamburger plenty of different chicken dishes.
Every night you could find something different. And lunch time at the pool restaurant had a good variety with some very good cakes and pastries.
Drinks- very good selection of cocktails just ask if you want something making up, also if you want extra alcohol, beer on tap good, coffee not great in the main restaurant found it better out of the self serve machine, the lounge barmen made great lattés
Rooms- cleaned every day good standard, towel art on the bed every day, toiletries re stocked, fridge in room free safe, one large bottle of water every day .
We used the indoor pool several times found the water temp just right, as said by other guests the outdoor pool was freezing although my wife braved it one day , pool area very well laid out plenty of sun beds although the usual early morning towels on if you want a certain spot, liked the idea of chill out areas with mattresses and pillows, if it got too hot the pool guys would provide a canopy,
Last but not least just wanted to mention the great music the two lads played in the lounge bar every night and the service provided from the bar staff , also good to see managers in the restaurant. Had a great week although the weather was changeable

Room Tip: we had 2 rooms in block 4 very quite but no view only of trees

This is our second stay at the Palmeraie, the last stay around 4 years ago. Also our sixth visit to Morocco. Normally the weather is guaranteed but sadly on this ocassion we had a lot of rain, otherwise we had a very relaxing stay. The hotel is idealy placed for you to visit the famous square but nothing around the hotel for that evening walk after dinner. Staff friendly, rooms clean although look a little tired. Food is very good. Bar staff very good. The one downside is the poor wifi which is only available around the reception area and is very hit and miss.
Suitable for couples wanting to have a relaxing value for money holiday. Would i return, probably not but mainly due to having visited Morocco enough.

Big pool at 50M+ wide, pretty cold if that puts you off but for me it was perfect as it meant it was both quiet and refreshing!
Acceptable gym with one treadmill, 2 cross trainers, 1 bike and some machines and free weights also
Food was good, not awesome but it takes a lot to really impress me
The service at the bar was very friendly and quick, no long Q's often associated with an All Inclusive. the alcohol, though local was good enough and the mixers are coca cola, schweppes etc
The rooms are big and clean, no issues there
Courtesy bus into Marrakech runs fairly regularly but not too late, so if venturing on a night, you will have to get a taxi back for around £10-15
Wifi is free in the reception and main bar but at busy times is either very slow or non existent
The hotel was full but it didn't feel so, beds around the pool were available all of the time or virtually
1 week is enough, a 2nd would start to get a bit samey
We never watched any of the shows so can't comment there
The Entertainment staff were friendly around the pool, not pushy re joining in and the music by the pool was not too loud and overbearing

This hotel is a very good 4* and very clean. The staff are friendly, the pool is big enough to cope and looks fantastic within the very nice hotel grounds. There is very little to fault with this hotel and it is perfect for a week away as its only a 3.5 hours flight and a short transfer after you land. Any longer than a week and the 3 buffet restaurants may not be enough for some - though we found them perfect for our teenage children (and the food was very good with plenty of choice). Make sure you catch the free shuttle into Marrakech.

We stayed at this resort for several days following travel through Spain and Portugal. We chose an all-inclusive resort to ensure opportunity for relaxation at the end of our vacation and this ended up being the perfect place for just that.

Staff at the resort were all wonderful - The entertainment group worked really hard and always there making sure we took advatage of the multiple fun opportunities available. We met a lot of great people at the RIU that we have tried to stay in touch with since we left.

The food was pretty good. It was nice to have the opportunity to try local dishes/spices which included great tagine dishes. Nice variety of things to try and staff was very accommodating with helping us get something to eat before early excursions.

We are big fans of RIU and stay frequently. Was very nice to have opportunity to try this location!

As my first experience with both the country and Riu chain of hotels, I had relatively high expectations (incidentally the predominantly cloudy weather has no bearing on this review whatsoever). First impressions were good-welcoming reception area, quiet check in, helpful staff.
Pros: 1.Key feature was an excellent, friendly body of staff, particularly in the restaurants, bars, and animation team. Always had time to be polite and courteous. Housekeeping was discreet and reliable.
2.Spacious room-we had a junior suite, which provided great space for our two young children to run around in.
3.Pool area and gardens-beautiful, well-maintained and with lots of space

Now for the cons, which to me, cost the equivalent of two stars.
1. Our room was a good 10-15 minute walk from the main building (I'm not lazy, but have two young kids, and it was also a real pain if you left something in the room). They should offer golf cart shuttles as we have seen at other resorts, which here, was only reserved for your initial luggage transportation.
2. The two themed restaurants were obviously placed there to fulfil Thomson criteria, because they were pretty much two smaller buffet restaurants (nothing too different from the main dining area) with table cloths and limited reservations. I was expecting some 'A La Carte' and a bit more 'special' than the buffet canteen, and was left disappointed.
3. Crowded eating-particularly at lunch, where the smaller restaurant struggled to cope with the numbers. We found that it was best to take a late lunch in order to avoid queuing round the stations (incidentally, why not separate stations for separate queues?). It also seemed like a big trek to the food serving area at breakfast and dinner times in the main dining hall-very annoying to sit down then realise that you had to traipse back to get a knife and fork! Food quality was generally good, although got a little monotonous after a week-particularly in the absence of variety in the themed restaurants.
4. Two windows in our room that could be opened by our two year old, big enough for him to climb out and fall from the first floor. That was a serious issue for me.

Anyhow, I hope that this helps one or two of you-these are of course my own opinions, and as a whole, Morocco is a lovely, accommodating country that in my view, is largely underrated.

Like many many reviews beforehand, The faults are known to Thomson and Hotel Management but they seem unwilling to act on them . Food is repepative thus becomes boring after three days, themed restaurant's is same menu but smaller intimate eating space, the phone in room didn't work, apparently its been like this for a whilst, wifi is only available in main lobby area and near by bar, so now you have 50 people trying to connect at peak times. The only saviour is trips out or the Animation team who really carry the flag for the hotel, they provide poolside activities during the day and at night one hour themed entertainment which is chessy but that makes it entertaining (they really work hard),having said all this we still enjoyed our week there, the grounds, the rooms, public areas, dining rooms even quality and quantity of food and drinks no complaints.
