We have just returned from our second stay at this hotel. All of the previous reviews summarise people's likes and dislikes and that is the reason for the sometimes mixed reviews-we are all different and like different things!. For us though,it ticked all the right boxes.
Had we wanted frantic nightlife we would have gone to Spain or a Greek island- we wanted a leisurely evening meal with a few low key drinks outside and that is what we got. Food was always cooked fresh with plenty of choice and yes, over a two week stay it will always be a weekly cycle however with the choice offered it was not an issue for us.
Yes we were up early to get our favourite spot in the sun but everyone else was also doing this also so this is a guest problem and not a hotel problem.what I didn't agree with though was those people who got up early to reserve beds and then did not appear until the afternoon. however a word with the pool attendant would resolve the hunt for unoccupied beds as he would contour beds up from somewhere so you were never without.
The animation team were hard working and although some of the evening performances were not our cup of tea,we didn't have to watch them and anyway, we hadn't paid west end show prices for their performances-special mention to MJ who had everyone in stitches with his character(especially during the aqua aerobics) and an 'interesting' laugh- go and stay and you will know what I mean! Maybe not a hotel for teenagers or adults looking for nightlife and lively evenings but it is not advertised as that in the brochure-for lively go elsewhere, for relaxing evenings with a chance to dress for dinner and enjoy a leisurely meal and drink go for this.
Staff were excellent and genuinely tried to make everyone feel special. The ones that stood out for me were Simo and Nihad on reception who ensured our requirements were always met, the restaurant manager in the main restaurant who looked after the buffet with pride and ensured everything was running fine and presentation was good during the sometimes busy evening periods, and all his team of waiters and waitresses who gave 100% at all times, working long hours to ensure we were all fed and watered!. Yes all three restaurants were buffet style but had I wanted waiter service I would have gone elsewhere. The Moroccan was not my taste but the Italian was a pleasant change and ran well by the young restaurant manager. A bit of background music would have been nice but did not spoil my evenings spent there.
Rooms were spacious and had free safe and air con kept room to a reasonable temperature. Maids serviced rooms daily and the public areas were kept spotlessly clean by the army of maids constantly cleaning and mopping with little thanks.
Arrival drinks were a nice touch as was smoked salmon and champagne Sundayspeople have moaned about the wifi which yes,was hard to get on during the evenings and only available in the main reception area but I personally came away to get away from modern technology and flung I could always get ten minutes to check the news etc although rooms had sky news,bbc1 and itv which kept me abreast of any major news events and also the latest in the Dingles crisis on Emmerdale!
Pool was huge and never cold during the 45 plus heat.
Could have written loads more but will save that for next time as we have now decided to return for a third trip, this time in early November. We are also seriously considering for 2014's main holiday unless we find something out of this world!
Read the comments, take a chance and I don't think you will be disappointed!
We would opt for an upstairs room overlooking the pool, but everyone want different.some of the rooms...
