We spent 2 really enjoyable weeks at this hotel and left very impressed at the overall experience and are certain to return again.
It is a very decent 4 star hotel with a good range of facilities and comfortable well-equipped rooms, but what makes it the perfect holiday hotel is the high quality and wide range of food on offer and the unbelievably friendly staff.
The hotel reception and lobby area is very large with ample seating and has a good sized bar/lounge area, enclosed garden/fountain, evening show lounge/bar and main restaurant.
Adjacent to this building are the two specialty restaurants and the main pool terrace/bar area.
There is a separate Spa and Indoor pool/gym complex within the grounds as well as separate children's building, play area and shallow pool.
There are plenty of undercover seating/tables around the main building where you can shelter from the sun and yet be within easy reach of the restaurant or bar.
Accommodation blocks are scattered around extensive, attractive and well-cared for gardens which have feature ornamental ponds with fountains. Apart from the two blocks close to the pool area, a sense of tranquility has been created which is very welcome.
Rooms are larger than average and equipped with two single (or double if requested) beds, good sized fridge, LCD TV with good range of programmes, large seating area, air conditioning, ceiling fan and decent sized digital safe. Bathroom has plenty of storage space, a powerful shower (on hose) and hairdryer. Soap, towels and hair shampoo are provided. There is a separate WC and bidet. Two 1.5 litre bottles of water are provided daily.
The pool is large and 'U' shaped with gradual sloped entry on two sides. Yes the water is cool in the morning but when we went in June it had warmed up nicely in the afternoon. It was never too cold to swim in.
There is a mixture of sun-loungers with slatted umbrellas and concrete beds with thick mattresses some of which could have an awning fitted to provide shade. We never had a problem finding two beds together at any time of the day but of course there seemed to be a fair number of early risers putting towels out. (The hotel policy was to remove all personal possessions left out before 8am but we were never up at this time to find out if it was ever implemented)
There was quite a mix of nationalities staying at the hotel and this changed over the period of our stay, There always seemed to be a majority of British though.
The food in the main buffet restaurant was in the main, cooked immediately in front of the food stations and couldn't have been any fresher. The choice was astounding and catered for every possible taste from plain to exotic, vegetarian to carnivore, hot or cold. We never had a poor meal at all during our stay and I am a particularly fussy eater.
There is also a daily barbeque on the pool terrace with salad options.
The bars served alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and handed out extra 1.5 litre water bottles to guests who asked. The spirits are mainly local but taste good enough and are definitely not watered down. There was no rationing system in place unlike some other countries.
The staff are the friendliest we have ever come across in all our times on holiday. There was no indication of any ulterior motives to their friendliness (i.e. tips) throughout our stay they just seemed genuinely happy people and glad to help make your stay a happy one as well. They are a very tactile people so expect to shake a lot of hands, and if you spend time to learn a few Moroccan Arabic phrases (the entertainment team offer lessons) their reaction is tremendous and good fun.
When we tipped them at the end of our stay their reaction was very humbling and we felt as though we were leaving good friends behind when we left.
It is always easy to knock hotel entertainment teams as being amateurish etc. but we go away with quite low expectations anyway. The team at this hotel worked extremely hard, provided a wide variety of experiences (without the hard sell) during the day and provided a range of shows in the evening. some of which were quite good but others were poor.
There is a live singing act outside in the evening which although repetitive provides decent background music without being too intrusive.
We took time to get to know the team and found our appreciation of what they had to offer improved.
In summary we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying at this hotel again.
